This isn't just some random Brawler, it's technically Shenmues successor, which puts it on good enough footing in its own right
Having just played through yakuza 0 since buying from launch, I loved it. But it is a game that can grate and you need to drop I feel before coming back. Also the end sequence of fights I felt were far too long. However saying that I have bought all the yakuza games and left em sealed until I finish the previous ones. But these games can feel alienating to people, they are long can be a grind fest & if you hate subbed cinema I can’t see the story really appealing. All in all tho I love yakuza!

My main complaint is that the presentation is not as good a 6. Don't get me wrong, I love the game. Yakuza is my favourite series, but I think they are always solid 8 games because there are so many flaws that would be fixed for a bigger budget game.

Can anyone possibly tell me what the combat functions are like, does it compare to Tekken for instance? or is it just one of those game which just have a single kick and a punch button and the game itself makes it more variable, it's not controllable by us?
It's not fighting game no, it's a beat em up. And yes it has one punch and one kick button, but it uses it to its fullest with a lot of different moves all of witch are useful.
Adam Velazquez Kiwami 1 and the original yakuza both definitely have some rough spots. It’s fair to say that both yakuza 2 (the original) and Kiwami 2 are both better than the first game. Hope you enjoy it; this is definitely where the series core “feel” was solidified.

After you play 0, play Kiwami 1 and then Kiwami 2. If you can’t wait for the HD ports of 3-5, then get 4 and 5 on download for PS3, and then play 6 on the PS4. Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1 and Kiwami 2, in total price wise, should only run you about 90 bucks (20 for 0, 20 for Kiwami 1, 50 for Kiwami 2) If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Mega Mijit Quickest answer to the dub question is that the original Yakuza 1 was dubbed over by some pretty damn good voice talent, like Mark Hamill as Majima, Michael Madsen as Shimano and John DiMaggio as every street thug lol. The dub is hit or miss because it had to fit within the animation timing of the Japanese speech, but it’s a fun time and an interesting change. Sadly no other game is dubbed but I’m personally more than okay with that. Yakuza 6 is my ***personal*** favorite game of the series next to Kiwami 2 and 0. However each game could really be considered the best depending on who you ask. 6 is absolutely excellent but I will note the impact of it is much great if you’ve played (or at least watched) 0-5.

I’m sorry.. I just don’t like the combat anymore.. the rag doll physics make it ridiculous, the heat actions lack the badassery feel now, and I honestly really enjoyed the multiple styles of 1 and 0.

Why are the graphics so much worse than in Kiwami 1? It is so damn exhausting. And the unsharpness or depth of field is damn headache after headache after headache. Just rushed through for the stories. Kiwami 1 was so much better overall. Besides the item management.
Problem with these for me it's the movies are so drab, well acted I can tell, but, man, sometimes you just want to play and have fun. Very good games if you have patience and time.

Jesus, they keep milking this series. It seems like every six months I see a new Yakuza game passing through. Admittingly the games are still good but oversaturation kicked in with me 3 games ago.
"Milking" them would imply they get the same treament shenmue did recently. These are full remakes, new engine, new voice acting, new mechanics, etc. Basically new games. This is the right time for them to release all these games, i just finished 0 and im looking forward the get this and the first kiwami and i bet im not the only one on a similar situation.
Milking? Japan took years to release any more Yakuza games with people begging for Japan to send them to us and now we are finally getting them. Japan takes time to make them and does so with care its why all the games get rated so high and are all loved in the entire comment section. Don't think you even know what milking is used correctly.

To this day, I've never seen a yakoza character get hit or attacked by more than one person at a time
Play kiwami in legend mode if you want a "challenge". You'll have ten enemies with guns and grenades kill you before you even move. Fun stuff.

To me Yakuza 2 is the end of the story of Kiryu. New writers took over and shafted Kaoru who was such a great character in contrast to Kiryu.
