@Fully Dead The second wave of pre-orders I went to my local EB Games 7 hours before they opened and just hung out playing my PlayStation Vita. Others didn't start lining up until 2 hours later. There was a line up closer to 60 people and when they opened the worker came out and explained that they were waiting for a call from head office of how many PlayStation 5 pre-orders they were getting and 5 minutes later I said to the first few people what is the chance of them getting that call before Toronto or any other big city and I think one guy overheard that and seeing he was in the middle of the line he decided to leave likely thinking that there wouldn't be enough consoles. Well about 5 minutes after that the worker came out and counted everyone in line and said if they counted correctly everyone in line will get a pre-order. After getting my pre-order and going home I seen that the guy that left the line was in a four vehicle accident and he was talking to a police officer on the sidewalk. So he went from waiting in the line for about 3 hours and missing out on his PlayStation 5 into getting into an accident.

@Sick Pencil it’s because gamespot has people actually play the games and know the history of them and not just because money was on the table like you think.
Oh baby, I cannot wait to play this game next week on my PlayStation 5.
Have they got voice actors (English /Japanese) for all the side quests yet? Kinda bugged me that zero didn't.
There is a lot of voice acting but also non-dialogue text parts.
It's a shame we don't play as kiryu anymore
He is alive they had this old gameplay where kiryu was a secret undercover body guard in yakuza 7 and we play as him a little bit
He is still in the game tho
let the damn man rest
C'mon man he has been the character since 7 games I like kiryu a lot but tbh I am glad that they are bringing a new character for a fresh change..
@@Zeddddy Even through I do prefer the beat em up combat more but it's nice to have a combat change after 7 games of continuous beat em up .
In all my yrs gaming I'd never played a Yakuza title until LAD and I'm blown away by how great it is 👍
god can we talk about the main theme of the game? like holy fuck it's so amazing and heartfelt it's the perfect introduction to ichiban
When ign is at 16 mil subs why is gamespot at 4 since last 5 years?????
Boy, I can't wait to play this game tbh... I'm playing Yakuza 0, and while I love everything about it I don't much appreciate the brawler combat
Having it be a turn-based JRPG is not only refreshing to the JRPG genre but it's also an improvement upon previous Yakuza games in my book
Didn't like the combat either, fairly repetitive and lacked depth. Also some moves in the game are so O.P. lol
btw, I meant not ONLY refreshing to the genre, some people liked my comment when it looked like I was criticizing the game's JRPG freshness :P
@@arsnakehert you two have no idea what a yakuza game is. please, for the love of god, stick to the games that you could understand,
@@saeidnikbakht3886 calm down the yakuza games are about the story not the combat
@@poketcircuitfighter8288 it's both about story and combat son, you have no idea how people were mad for the changes in the combat. eventhough i was one of them, but i cant stop myself to play another yakuza game, even if the combat is not what the series is known for
Finished demons souls, Monster honter world and rise. Whas thinking what can i play now and chose this game amazing game ...
i played every single yakuza games in existence. I LOVE that the studio took this direction. such a refreshing take on the series. Def my favorite yakuza game
Feels like Gamespot also dig deeper into the messages behind the game, not just their own feelings towards it.
It's a review not an analysis
@@Ravenscannotfly But what's the point of reviewing if you're not trying to understand everything the game devs tried to deliver? Especially for someone who made money from reviewing them?
@@minhvo8009 yes in an analysis. But its a review not a review+analysis

For me the yakuza franchise is the only series which is on par with the gta series.
Also Persona series
As a newcomer to the series, is this a good jumping off point?
No. Start with yakuza 0 then kiwami 1 and 2 then forget about the series.
please tell me theres a japanese vo not about to play a yakuza dubbed
Yes it is
9/10 thank me later

@@digitalpirate2183 it's not a spin-off but okay...
Ngl, this game makes me wish for more rpg's with a realistic aesthetic down to the characters.
Spoil: Ichiban Kasuga is Akira Nishikiyama reborn.
with how clunky fighting can feel in some of the older yakuzas im actually very happy that this one is turn based
Yakuza 3, 5, 0, and Kiwami 2 and Judge Eyes isn't clunky at the slightest. The series didn't need to go to turn based at all
@@D.J.Paige71 yakuza 3 had the worst fighting out of all the games no matter what you did the enemy would block like every attack. I just played every single yakuza game during the summer
@@EleCticCOokie Yakuza 6 had the worst combat of any of them. The move list was small, attacks were repetitive and enemies had very little variations and everything felt slow and sluggish. Plus the physics made you trip on everything stopping your momentum dead.
@@D.J.Paige71 let me phrase what i first said differently the fighting in the yakuza games are inconsistent. Sometimes theyre fine and sometimes it doesnt feel great. Im happy with turn bases combat because it guarantees it will be a certain style
@@D.J.Paige71 its judgement
I would be a first time player to the series. Is it worth it?
Yes, you dont need to know a whole lot other than who Majima and Kiryu are and even then its only a little bit to know. Its easy to get into and can help bridge you into the Yakuza series as a whole. I highly recommend it
YES
Alright I'll say it... who's here because this is on Gamepass now?
Good review! Is this captured at 30fps?
If you play it a 4K with raytracing it probably will run at a solid 30 which isn’t a big deal since this game is going to be turn based any ways but If you turn off raytracing you will get up to 60-120 fps
@@ryancadek there's no raytracing for this game
@@bluevolt2014 I didn’t know that but it still looks pretty good
Need more semi open world games like mafia suggestions please
this review is so much better than the corpse on ign .
This main game is not 40 hours, I’m 60 in and I still haven’t reached the late game yet. Come back when you’ve completed the management mini game and unlocked all the characters, that’s when it’ll be considered a review
@Cal Devans The Cadre exactly, I clocked in 90 hours, and I didn’t attempt to complete the true final millennium tower lol I got enough of what I wanted out the game and already seen the end of the main story

@Foaad Hisham Thanks Mate ☺️✌🏼 I wish if they comes out earlier, because i’m kinda worried about AC Valhalla after watching several gameplay’s (The so called Work In Progress)

And it's back English dubbed again which is nice. I got tired of reading the subtitles.
After kiwami (my intro to the series) I cannot invision a future where they do wrong. Games are always a blast
Probably getting both Yakuza and Cyberpunk as my new-gen games this month...
Who’s gonna tell him...
Cyberpunk was delayed again homie

It was supposed to get released in November when the guy up top first commented you dumb 12 year old nazii wannabe
Anyone playing this on an original Xbox One experiencing terrible performance. It's basically unplayable. Not an Xbox series X, But the OG original Xbox One console?
1:03 wtf is going on with his hair?

best review yet. Thanks gamespot. Most users in metacritic have no idea what turn based combat is and are just giving 0s to the game.
Lol I like how all the reviews are not even saying anything about it being in English voice actors I enjoy these games and get more drawn in because they aren’t In English
You can still choose a Japanese voice actor. They don't force you to have dubbed on. This was shown in one of the trailers. And I'm glad they added English dub. Nothing wrong with extra options.
Do I need to have played previous games for this
No but it is recommended u do
no you dont need to play
although it would enhance the experience since it references older games but not in a major way
An infinitely better review than IGN
I was against the turn based...but it’s actually fun 👍🏾
Does anyone else think his glowing finger when using the phone is a nod to Shining Finger from Stein's Gate or simply just the typical Yakuza style highlight of the limbs in motion that they do?
Why play it with the english voice?
Some people don't like to read, don't get me wrong I prefer Japanese that's why you can choose
Because I’m a gamer, reading ain’t my thing
Why not?
Because I don’t speak Japanese

From bleak and realistic outlaw drama in 2006 to turn based fantasy RPG in 2020. Curious evolution 🤣
Thats the Japanese for ya
Technically yakuza has never been realistic and this doesn't have more fantasy than the other games
@Jo Ka Here in Spain it was published far into the fall of 2006. Worth the wait tho. Amazing game.
i only played 0, Kiwami 1+2, and a bit of 3. This one looks like a fun change, i wasn’t that into the brawler combat tbqh
You need to play yakuza 4 and 5
Yakuza 0 is the best but 4 and 5 are eighth behind yakuza 0 in quality
Excluding Kiwami 2 that game was good a lot better than kiwami 1
@@Man_in_a_Gucci_Suit i’ll play em next year. i do wanna see all of kiryu’s story ;)
I can't believe how good this game turn into turn base battle RPG. And the fights are full with comedy and parody! I can't wait to fight Kazuma Kiryu, he's like a super boss in the game, I expect the fight to be hard, like when you fight a super secret boss in many turn base battles JRPG games!
Couldn't believe you had to apply literal Pokemon logic in that fight.
Nice. Will get it on PS5 next year.
I hear Troy Baker in every great game.
Ichiban and his mates sound like they're voiced by the same person. The game looks really hilarious.

Picked this up a couple weeks ago on sale and it might be the best value for money ive ever gotten from a game. Im like 50 hours in cus i couldnt stop grinding.i also played it in japanese so hearing the voice actors for the first time is weird.
