Thanks Matt for the video. Very interesting stuff. Loved it. Saving my pennies to get one. But untill then....I'll have to live through yours. Hope you don't mind. Thanks again.
I'm 73 years old, raced motorcycles for more than 15 years and Porsches for 5 years, and have driven manuals my entire life. My current Porsche is a 2016 Cayman with manual box. Because of my age, I've been considering switching over to the PDK transmission. It's a very difficult decision for me because I feel like I'm giving "something" up that has been a part of me for so long. I've watched loads of videos about the PDK, but none has convinced me to make the switch. However, after watching your excellent video explanation of the transmission, I'm now convinced it's exactly what I should have in the new 2017 911 Carrera I'm ordering next week. Thanks, much.........fabulous video!
Thanks for watching man. I'd keep in mind that the PDK in the Carrera and the PDK-S in the GT3 are very different. The PDK-S is much more manual-like. I think you'll still enjoy the PDK, but it won't be nearly as functional as the one in the GT3. GT3 gives you full control.
Just bought my first gt3 yesterday. Very rough downshift from 2-1. The feature with paddle shifters is very good, smoothing out the stop. Great review man. I like that you’re down to earth 🤘
You are very passionate and damn good with what you do. I'm really impressed. Thank you, I am way better than I was before as a detailed and I was really good befor. Again, thank you!!!
Mate... I just took delivery of my 2015 GT3 and your review was awesome esp the one on getting to a stop and pulling both paddles.... i let go just b4 it stops and it blips a little... awesome.. THANKS!
Really nice. I hope you will make more of these in car videos, and maybe even talk about new car releases and what you think of them And I must say everything you mentioned on the pdk is in the bmw dct aswell. Really nice job from bmw. But one downside is when parking in a very tight spot, and the car won't creep forward or backwards like normal automatic cars, you have to be very very aware
i like your videos thanks for sharing. 2 things i want mention: when i drive dual clutch transmissions and going to stop the car i leave it in second gear (even on manual), the car will downshift on standstill. this will suppress the jerks from the transmission. second thing is it looks for me like the traction control is activateed at your launch controls. greetz from Stuttgart Germany
Awesome video Matt! I really enjoyed it alot! Great angles and quality on the gopro aswell, found out myself getting proper angles is harder than most think hehe.
I keep having focussing problems aswell. The camera either focusses on the interior, making the road too bright, or the other way around... But that is just due to me having a cheap low quality camera I guess ;)
Hi Matt, I'm familiar with the Winter Park area, where are these roads located? I've been trying to look for some nice country roads to enjoy my 370z but haven't had any luck. Any help would be appreciate it! As always, great video!
Not a manual your right, but it seems as though there can be just as much driver interaction between a 3 pedal set up and a PDK, changed my look on PDK
interesting and immersive , nice work sir , and on a side note , i do videos of my snowmobile trips and i have 2 gopros that i use in a number of mounts however i love the picture in picture ... what editing software that allows this are you using if i may ask ?
You need to turn off PSM if you're going to launch on a cold surface and/or cold tires, that's what caused your launches to fail in such a spectacular fashion. I hope you have a racetrack nearby because those roads really do not do your car justice! Enjoy in good health & greetings from Germany
+Ter Forth I hate that fanboy stuff. I'm attempting to make videos that are have a bit of self awareness built in. The 991 GT3 is awesome, but there are always trade-offs with any car.
+Matt Moreman FYI, the 991 GT3 is the car I would choose (if I had to choose just one 'extra' car) if my circumstances were a little different right now... They say that you should never meet/drive your heroes, but I did just that at the start of a family vacation, after landing in LV (we did the SF/LA/GC triangle), back in late June 2014. The only thing that we did in LV was visit Exotics Racing. They had just received their first 991 GT3 a couple days before I had arrived. I wasn't planning on driving the GTR, but they had a very cheap special on it that day and I figured that it would be a good car to learn their track with. I was kind of curious what many had been going on about with this car. All I can say is that after doing 7 laps in it, I'm still wondering... It felt like a disconnected pig. Afterwards I did 7 laps in their 458 (with no cats on it). It was really LOUD, but was in a different league to the GTR. It felt at home on the track, unlike the GTR. Finally, I took the
+Matt Moreman the GT3 out. Firstly, it felt like a glove, whereas the 458's seats had no upper body support. It also felt like more of quality piece, whereas the 458 felt 'plasticy'. The GT3 had the best sounding exhaust, similar turn-in grip to the 458, but better mid corner and exit grip to the 458 (the 458 had better torque/throttle response than the GT3 at low revs though). All in all the GT3 was a much more enjoyable experience on this track. Lastly, I'm looking forward to getting a drive in a buddy's 991 GT3 RS In the spring!
+Matt Moreman Maybe my mini-review didn't come across clearly. On the day, track and particular cars that I drove Then, the 991 GT3 was the clear winner IMO. It felt the best inside, sounded the best, had the best feeling shift (more mechanical than the digital feeling 458), best overal grip and damping. It was just a little light on low-down torque compared to the 458 and especially the GTR. So, nothing to be afraid of IMO.
That's why I hated Florida the roads were pretty boring unless you head up toward Ocala. We don't have many great driving roads in Tampa St Pete. Up here in Raleigh, it's the shit, it's like MOTOGP circuits everywhere. Lots of elevation changes and curves. Much more fun. But I'll probably be moving back to Tampa. ha.
No, I figured out what was happening. The PDK-S launch control requires ESC+TC on. What was happening is I was slightly lifting off the throttle as the car launched, disengaging LC. You have to keep your foot to the floor.
The 991 Porsche GT3 has been my dream car since the day I read its first drive review from Car and Driver. It's crazy how I haven't noticed this channel until a few weeks ago while binge watching videos on the GT3. While browsing through your videos today I came across the one where you told your story about how you became a financial advisor. I'm actually less than a year out from graduating with my undergrad in finance with a plan to work as a financial advisor to help people reach their wealth goals. Any tips or advice for a future young professional looking to prosper in this industry?
I think you have 2 options. 1. Go get a job selling something for 5 years or so. 2. Find an established, someone progressive financial advisor(very hard to find) that needs a young dude to help with the existing practice.
+Matt Moreman, so with the both paddles neutral option, how does this work when driving. Say you drive 40 mph, can you pull both paddles and rev it? And when you release the paddles, is it back in the gear it was in before? And can you put it in neutral at any speed and rev it, like in ferraris?
Launch Control needs to be in Auto, Sport Mode with Traction Control off. Left foot on the brake, right foot hard on the accelerator. Then lift off. Let the PDK do the shifting for you. Enjoy.
+James Hart It doesn't need to be in Auto. This happened to me once before where the car wouldn't hook up, and it kept going limp over and over. It's odd because TC is not engaging sending it limp. I just did it three time this past weekend, and it's working like a charm again. You can't just turn traction control off on the 991 GT3. You can turn ESC only or ESC+TC. LC doesn't engage with ESC+TSC off.
+Matt Moreman Merry Christmas Matt. I would have thought you would need to be Auto like other Porsche cars because the PDK can change gears faster than me and you. I'm no expert, just a you tube car enthusiast. By the way, your new house looks awesome. Will take a week to cut the grass though. Enjoy.
+bigb9854 I had a V1 for about ten years and gave it to my Dad when I switched to the Max. The Max isn't as sensitive, but has very little false alarms. So I've found it more reliable. I would end up ignoring it.
hm okay. That's what I've heard also. I'm really stuck on what to get. Max is also more expensive. Is there anything that the Max still sensitive enough that it will pick up on everything that the V1 will?
+Isaac Gonzales You're thinking of dumping the clutch to do donuts! Pulling the paddle engages neutral, so can simply rev, dump the clutch, and go sideways!
+cobra454tim I believe when that happens you get a light on the dash and it won't even engage launch control at all. It will wait for you to drive a few miles.
+Matt Moreman , have you driven the new R8 yet? All the things I am disappointed in my m4, the R8 has. But I guess at more than twice the price it should.
You have to disable traction control to do Launch Control dude. With launch control on it cancels the launch control because it thinks the tires are slipping.
One question I have for you M3 in car video is, does the power change from the throttle setting? So from effecient to sport or sport plus, is it only the response in the pedal that changes or does the engine map change in any way too?
I own an M4 and I can tell you that the throttle definitely is sharper. Sport plus is almost too hard to get off the line smoothly it's SO touchy. No clue about the mapping though. Don't think that had changed the power feels the same no matter what.
WhoScopes yeah, thats what I am seeing aswell. Sport and sport plus feel a little too touchy in 1st gear. So I like the efficient the most from a feel. But it would be interesting to know if the button just controls the sensitivity.
Obsessed Garage I believe it's better to have them mounted to the steering column because you will always know where each respective shifter is- downshift is left, upshift is right.
Excellent description of how this works. I'm a stick fan (license plate says "Not PDK"!), but this gives me food for thought. Beautiful color for your GT3 btw.
around a curve you don't want a downshift, on a track squeezing the throttle out of a turn is controllable, a big downshift will kick the rear end out and lose control, i know you know this
Yes. Wasn't directed at you though. If you are gonna replace tires soon maybe you should show us how to kick the rear end out using paddle neutral and feather the gas as you slide around. Thats what I want to do in my car when tires are toast
+Marcus Yong We don't have a club sport option in the US. I installed an aftermarket GMG cage. Mine is a 2014, so we didn't have sport bucket option yet.
+Jeb Lopez Well... I am, but in the worst shape of my life. I was Crossfit crazy for three years straight. I'm there everyday. I went from sub 3 Fran and sub 2 Grace to not good at all. It's time to get focused.
+atombond It has to be on. I figured out the issue. The G-Force was pulling my foot off of full throttle. You need to keep the peddle completely engaged all the way through first gear.
Just turn traction control off when your launching if it slips with it on it'll abort the launch..
Thanks Matt for the video. Very interesting stuff. Loved it. Saving my pennies to get one. But untill then....I'll have to live through yours. Hope you don't mind. Thanks again.
+Gipstetz Ha, ha... I'm glad to be that guy.

Loved the video! You should do a similar video in your M3
+David Mudrik Will do.
Very surprising video, you did a very good job at explaining everything and giving your feelings, which is important for any car guy ! Really cool.
Just bought my first gt3 yesterday. Very rough downshift from 2-1. The feature with paddle shifters is very good, smoothing out the stop. Great review man. I like that you’re down to earth 🤘
I don't go past below 2nd...going down to 1st just seems too rough.
Going to resist the urge and wait for the HD so I can hear that flat six better. Love it so far.
I like how the stitching of the dash goes to the right bottom corner.
You are very passionate and damn good with what you do. I'm really impressed. Thank you, I am way better than I was before as a detailed and I was really good befor. Again, thank you!!!
Great video Matt, love the new set up! Look forward to a few videos with you on the road.
man that was a fun ride - thanks for the onboard experience - playback via over-ear headset is wicked (stunning)
+Garrie Taylor Thanks Garrie!
Mate... I just took delivery of my 2015 GT3 and your review was awesome esp the one on getting to a stop and pulling both paddles.... i let go just b4 it stops and it blips a little... awesome.. THANKS!
Love these type of videos, hearing those shifts is best part. More please!
+Patane7 Will do!
Really nice. I hope you will make more of these in car videos, and maybe even talk about new car releases and what you think of them
And I must say everything you mentioned on the pdk is in the bmw dct aswell. Really nice job from bmw. But one downside is when parking in a very tight spot, and the car won't creep forward or backwards like normal automatic cars, you have to be very very aware
+ELComandante M-DCT wont go into neutral when you pull both paddles at the same time but otherwise its very similar.
yeah I know. I have an M4. That would be really cool if it did.
And also easier for a few revs when rolling ^^
Yeah, PDK doesn't allow the car to creep either. It takes some getting used to.
Gt3 is love! Im so jealous about it. Matt your one lucky man to own one of these and keep up the good work. And also greeting from Finland.
+Aaro J.J I agree I'm very fortunate and am not taking it for granted.
Very interesting , great sound quality and also you did a great job handling/editing the two videos. Keep it up.
Thanks man! Will do.
Found you from Adam LZ's channel. Love the videos man, seems effortless.
Sweet! Thanks man!
Nice. On similar videos, could you add camera footage of the Instrument panel
i like your videos thanks for sharing.
+nickor6643 TC is on, but it normally works fine.
Cool vid Matt. With regards to the launches, could it be that you aren't holding it on the launch limiter for long enough before releasing the brake?
+iZiig No, once the LC light comes on you're good to go. My tires are probably get a little worn.
That exhaust completely transforms the car from around 6K to redline. The experimenting was worth it.
Awesome video Matt! I really enjoyed it alot! Great angles and quality on the gopro aswell, found out myself getting proper angles is harder than most think hehe.
+Amateur Detailing I agree, it takes a lot of work getting all the cameras, set-up turned on, and then getting the Zoom H5 setup.
I keep having focussing problems aswell. The camera either focusses on the interior, making the road too bright, or the other way around... But that is just due to me having a cheap low quality camera I guess ;)
+Amateur Detailing If you're using GoPro, you have to turn Spot Metering on.
Your Videos are so cool! Thanks Matt! And your Porsche is so amazing🔝😌
+Jan Diez Thanks Jan!
Hi Matt, I'm familiar with the Winter Park area, where are these roads located? I've been trying to look for some nice country roads to enjoy my 370z but haven't had any luck. Any help would be appreciate it! As always, great video!
+gabo2212 Shoot me an email. You have to get out to the Montverde/Ferndale area. matt.moreman@gmail.com
Couldn't have picked a better sounding exhaust, this video is absolute ear porn!
I agree. Thanks!
I built that section of US441/US27! Didn't realize you were so close!
Ha, ha... Yep, right in Lady lake.
Fantastic audio and video quality.
+Phil Bolte I still have some work to do on getting it right, but I think I'm close.
Not a manual your right, but it seems as though there can be just as much driver interaction between a 3 pedal set up and a PDK, changed my look on PDK
+Nick Huggins Yeah, it's not bad.
interesting and immersive , nice work sir , and on a side note , i do videos of my snowmobile trips and i have 2 gopros that i use in a number of mounts however i love the picture in picture ... what editing software that allows this are you using if i may ask ?
This is simple iMovie.
drive.google.com/file/d/0B1bEIznFE0TTZnVubXZURUhjNEE/view?usp=sharing
this was from last winter , myself and friend having a blast :)
I always make it a habit when I get into my car, 1. Disable "VDC(Traction Control)", 2. MAP 4 Tune. Everyday sport/driver mode lol
You need to turn off PSM if you're going to launch on a cold surface and/or cold tires, that's what caused your launches to fail in such a spectacular fashion.
I hope you have a racetrack nearby because those roads really do not do your car justice!

+Th Be LC only works with TC+ESC on. All is right in the universe though. It worked like a charm yesterday.
Love the I depth review. You should do car reviews, if you ever have the time or desire to do so.
+goons123flofy I don't know man. There are plenty of people out there doing it that do a much better job than I ever could.
I genuinely enjoyed this video. Great stuff.
+TheCasper1901 Thanks!
Hey Matt did u mod a lithium battery ... I got an Antigravity weights 11 lbs that’s a cheap -31 lbs and high up near windshield
Seems like a very honest/objective review without any of the usual 'this thing is the best at everything because it's mine...'

great vid. the gt3 will learn the pavement then give u the best possible launch. must of been oily road
Awesome video, thanks for that! Would you mind doing a similar one in your M3? Would love to see that! Keep up the amazing work.
+Jaayzeh Yep, I'm going to do one today.
See Middleastbeast, I think he has the answer
Just turn traction control off when your launching if it slips with it on it'll abort the launch.
No, I figured out what was happening. The PDK-S launch control requires ESC+TC on. What was happening is I was slightly lifting off the throttle as the car launched, disengaging LC. You have to keep your foot to the floor.
Your audio is amazing. With my headphones on I feel like I'm inside the car with you! What kind of radar detector is that? Passport max 2?
+Low FG2 It's a Max.
Hey Matt, have you ever considered an ipe exhaust?
Nice vid btw.
+JG0922 I did when I first got the car, but they are super shady with their marketing tactics.
Is this the stock exhaust? I pick up the mine this week 🥳
Obsessed Garage Thank you!
Try doing the launch control with it in auto with sport mode active with traction control off.
What a fantastic car!
+RaGeAlucard It really is the dream of everything I've ever wanted in a car. I feel so fortunate to get to drive it.
Matt, is that a special bracket for your Escort? Or did you just get it from them?
lol "poor people" great explanation! very detail2
Joshua Quinto He didn't mean financially... Just to clarify. I'm not sure if you knew that.
+ELComandante Yep... It's what make the PDK livable for me. Basically depress or dump the clutch if you so desired.
thanks, so when you let off both paddles it goes back into the gear it was in before, right?
Unfortunately bmws dct doesn't have this feature.
+ELComandante Yes, it will auto rev match into gear.
Why didn't you idle for a few minutes when you got back home? I know Gt3 is N/A but it's still an engine with oil in it. Great video btw, thanks!
+Ali Serdar GÖK I guess I just don't worry about stuff like that.
+Matt Moreman did you had any trouble because of this? I mean you had cars with turbos before :)
+Ali Serdar GÖK No problems for me. I think the need for turbo timers and oil cycling is largely unnecessary on modern performance cars.
+Matt Moreman Thanks for answers :)
love that courtesy rev.
By the way, your new house looks awesome. Will take a week to cut the grass though.
Enjoy.
+James Hart That why I'm going to hire someone to cut all of that grass. Ha, ha...
Idk if you have experience with the Valentine One radar/laser detector, but how do you think it compares with the Passport Max?
+bigb9854 I had a V1 for about ten years and gave it to my Dad when I switched to the Max. The Max isn't as sensitive, but has very little false alarms. So I've found it more reliable. I would end up ignoring it.
hm okay. That's what I've heard also. I'm really stuck on what to get. Max is also more expensive. Is there anything that the Max still sensitive enough that it will pick up on everything that the V1 will?
+bigb9854 The V1 has better range and also has rear detection that the Max doesn't have.
can't you also engage launch control by holding both paddles in then smashing the pedal to a certain rpm then let go ?
+Isaac Gonzales You're thinking of dumping the clutch to do donuts! Pulling the paddle engages neutral, so can simply rev, dump the clutch, and go sideways!
So it will not downshift even with kick-down? (My TS does that, but it does not up shift if I hit the rev-limiter).
Nope. It stays in gear selected unless you choose to change it.
and 18 min in .. split screen ??!!! mind blown .. i neeed this software !! help me obiwan your my only hope ..
iMovie. Super simple. Just lay two clips on top of one another in the timeline.
boom !! on it and thanks matty :)
Just found this. I know you from rennlist. Great vid--thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
your best video yet chief!
+Mefiposeta Rose Thanks bro!
Wonder if the PDK was to warm to do a Launch???? wonder what would happen of you put the car in park and or shut off and re-start the car?
+cobra454tim I believe when that happens you get a light on the dash and it won't even engage launch control at all. It will wait for you to drive a few miles.
See Middleastbeast, I think this is the answer
Just turn traction control off when your launching if it slips with it on it'll abort the launch.
Your video is 1000 times better those auto journalists!
Nice Video
Enjoyed every second of it 👍😀
+Matt Moreman , have you driven the new R8 yet? All the things I am disappointed in my m4, the R8 has. But I guess at more than twice the price it should.
I've never driven an R8.
i cant believe you dont do the most fun thing - downshifting.
mainlymusicman yes! downshifting is my biggest thrill driving stick. well besides launching.
did you have a dealer reset for you after changing your own oil? Any charge
+ERIC DAVIS Yes, and no change.
You have to disable traction control to do Launch Control dude. With launch control on it cancels the launch control because it thinks the tires are slipping.
+alchemist 101 Not on the 991 GT3. It only works with ESC+TC engaged. It's working now.

+ELComandante There is no power difference in Comfort vs. Sport vs. Sport Plus. It's simply a change in throttle response.
nice camera action, 1st attempt-success
best pdk review ever. still like the manual 997 gt3 better :)
My main gripe is that the paddles are integrated into the wheel as opposed to the column.
I would much rather have them on the wheel.
Obsessed Garage I believe it's better to have them mounted to the steering column because you will always know where each respective shifter is- downshift is left, upshift is right.
If you walk the wheel, my guess is it's better. I don't walk the wheel, I keep my hands in position and move turn the wheel.
Really should be studying, but I guess i can take a study break.....
+mikey puvid Ha, ha... I've been there bro.
Have you ever had any issues on your gt3? Is the engine reliable driving to 9000 rpm often?
I have not had any issues other than mice chewing the harness.
Excellent description of how this works. I'm a stick fan (license plate says "Not PDK"!), but this gives me food for thought. Beautiful color for your GT3 btw.
+MrWozzathelad I'm with you man! I'm a diehard manual guy.
around a curve you don't want a downshift, on a track squeezing the throttle out of a turn is controllable, a big downshift will kick the rear end out and lose control, i know you know this
+ERIC DAVIS Brake, downshift, enter, apex, throttle. Right?
Yes. Wasn't directed at you though. If you are gonna replace tires soon maybe you should show us how to kick the rear end out using paddle neutral and feather the gas as you slide around. Thats what I want to do in my car when tires are toast
+ERIC DAVIS You know I will!
did you remove the safety stickers on your visors?
+ERIC DAVIS Yes, I always do in my cars.
Are you not supposed to on Sport+ and traction control off?
+Lanny Chun There is no Sport+ button on the GT3 and launch control doesn't work with traction control off.
do you live in south florida by chance? im buying my m4 in two weeks, would be cool to meet at a bmw car meet up.
+Peter Trubetskoy I'm in Central FL.
how did u get clubsport pack without the sport buckets?
+Marcus Yong We don't have a club sport option in the US. I installed an aftermarket GMG cage. Mine is a 2014, so we didn't have sport bucket option yet.
awesome video :)
how much quicker does the GT3 feel over the Carrera S?
Part of that is placebo, but it feels miles faster.
We wanna see the revs/speedo!
+Aaron Lal I'll get one next time.
what rpms does this hold at 70 in 7th gear?
+livalittle100 About 3,200.
Hey Mat are you useing max2?
+jodirt2k7 Max.
You need to turn tcs off and sport on for launch on pdk
+peterk814 No, LC doesn't work with TC off. I was lifting slightly off the throttle. I needed to keep it on the floor.
no 1080p?
still in 360p because of youtube :(
You're releasing the break pedal too fast after you floor the throttle. Also, try deactivating traction control
if you haven't already.
You crossfit too? Nice job, Athlete and fellow 991 GT3er
+Jeb Lopez Well... I am, but in the worst shape of my life. I was Crossfit crazy for three years straight. I'm there everyday. I went from sub 3 Fran and sub 2 Grace to not good at all. It's time to get focused.
Nice vid, but there's a little mistake in the description ;)
+William Henry Thanks!
which exhaust does the car have in this video?
+DieselDan09 GMG Bypass
Disengage your traction control button. Will always bog down on my gt3 when I have my traction control on.
+atombond It has to be on. I figured out the issue. The G-Force was pulling my foot off of full throttle. You need to keep the peddle completely engaged all the way through first gear.
+Matt Moreman interesting - I'll try again. It works ok with traction off also when tires are warm.
Ive nvr experienced my launch control failing like that.
+ERIC DAVIS I think my tires are toast.
What roll cage did you get?
+Jeb Lopez GMG Version 1.
what wireless mic are you using?
+Edward Cosic www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=618739&gclid=Cj0KEQiA496zBRDoi5OY3p2xmaUBEiQArLNnK6tOIGj7YZHzRGFVNsahkmwPUv40GkCMNV77CdB3oUcaAl3e8P8HAQ&Q=&ap=y&m=Y&is=REG&A=details
I wonder what these people are going to think when you do a 9k run with headers. LOL
Sapphire blue? Same as my gt4.
+goons123flofy Yep!
If it wasn't in Sport+, it will not activate the LC. That's why it didn't work.
+Trevor Matthews You're thinking about a Carrera.
What a noise!
Sunglasses! Always Sunglasses down here in The FL..
+Larry Velez I don't need them with the Air Blue 80 on the windshield.
+Matt Moreman You seemed to be squinting while driving - I thought it was the sun in your eyes, that's why I thought you forgot your sunglasses.
+Larry Velez That's just my goofy face. Ha, ha...
Do you own the gt3?
Yes.
