Having listened to every Morissette song I can find, this for me is the single greatest example of her vocal prowess. She transitions seamlessly into a perfectly clear and accurate whistle, and does incredibly long phrases on a single breath. I would defy any singer in the world today to match her performance of this song.
I have been following this girl for 8 years. By chance, from a youtube advice, attracted by the presence of Arnel Pineda, the frontman of Journey. They perform a duet, always on Wish you 107.5 Fm. they sing live on the radio, with a broadcast microphone, while sitting. Enraptured by his timbre of voice and his general vocal abilities, I went to check on his performances. A new world has opened up to me. His vocal abilities are out of human scale, amalgamated with his timbre of voice and his stage presence are deadly to the listener. Mortal in an excellent sense. . His voice is addictive. If I may recommend, listen to his Never enough, Rise up, first, always on the Wish 107.5. You won't believe your ears, which is a live performance. Her voice sounds beautiful and perfect, at any point of its extension and is a very rare thing in modern singing. Morissette=slickest. I've always felt that Mariah laid down the track "Fly Like a Bird" to tell everyone I can do this and you can't. Then Mori came along and said, "Hold my beer". That, and her cover of "Defying Gravity", made me fall in love with her. She is THE female pop vocalist of this generation.
I know everyone is blown away by her whistle notes which obviously are super impressive but I just can't stop thinking about how long she held her breath afterwards with so much vocal movement going on.

YES! So are the rest of the songs she performs during her Stages Sessions Quaranthemes segment. I really hope they react to some of them because imo her natural affinity for the broadway/Disney style (while still deliberately retaining elements of her signature sound) is one of the things that really sets her apart.
I think you forgot to notice the no breathing long range part on the last chorus that she wasn't almost breathing. That was so insane. She was able to hold her breath that long. That was really intense. Not a lot of singers could do that. That was real power

Whether Mori sings an original or a cover in whichever language, she never fails to give so much more, such top tier performances. My favorites from her deep music catalog: 1) cover of 'Could You Be Messiah' 2) Bruno Mars Medley 3) duet with Darren Espanto of 'A Whole New World' 3) Never Enough 4) her performances at the Asia Song Festival in 2017 and in 2018 in South Korea 5) her cover of 'Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw performed in Wish 107.5 and the one she performed with a live band 6) her duet with Daryl Ong cover of 'You Are thr Reason; 7) her stage duet with Marcelito Pomoy cover of 'Secret Love Song' 8) her collab with live band Sponge Cola at Wish 107.5 for the song ' So Close' 9) also on Wish 107.5 her cover of the song 'Shine' So there you go...just a few with so much more later on. Hi guys, thank you so much for your reaction to my favorite singer! I wrote a blurb about her in case you're interested in learning more about her 😊 Morissette is 27 years old. She was 21 in the Akin Ka Na Lang video. Her father was a rock singer and her original musical influence. Her first name is actually Johanne and her middle name is Morissette, having been named after Johann Sebastian Bach and Alanis Morissette (clearly a music-loving family!). One of the signatures of her voice is her use of grit/distortion/intentional vocal breaks, and I think this is her father's influence showing 🙂 She also had a bit of musical theatre training when she was on the Philippines' version of Camp Rock, and even though her main genre is pop, she does gorgeous renditions of music from other genres (including musical theatre) while staying true to her signature sound. She is incredibly resilient. When she was 11, she had surgery for a throat tumor and was terrified she may never sing again. Thankfully, that didn't happen! She did a number of singing competitions while growing up, including The Voice Philippines, but kept falling short of the very top. (As a longtime musician who lives in the US and isn't Filipino but has followed Filipino music for 30+ years, in my opinion this is because her voice and singing style are different than what is typically popular there. Lots of fans are obsessed with belting with as much power and ornamentation as possible, for instance). She will readily admit this became so discouraging that she almost decided to throw in the towel and give up on her dream. But her stint on The Voice opened doors with people who couldn't deny her talent, and she signed a record and TV deal with the largest network. Ironically, she became a member of a four-person group called the Birit ("belting") Queens on that network's weekly singing show. She can belt with the best of them, but her style leans more toward elegance than sheer, unadulterated power (though she is plenty capablebof both). In fact, when her initial contract ended about three years ago and she became an independent artist, she made a deliberate shift away from the "birit" style of singing. She also deliberately shifted away from using her whistle register so much, even though it's an ability she's always naturally had, largely because she didn't want to be pigeonholed as "that singer who can do whistle tones." I came across her by sheer dumb luck several years ago. Her voice immediately drew me in and sent me down a rabbithole. I was delighted to discover that the more I watched and listened to, the more impressed I was. For me, she really has it all - rock solid technique, stunning technical prowess, a voice that is both distinct AND known for its sheer beauty, an innate gift for musicality, magnetic stage presence, staggering versatility. She sings with the proficiency of many of the greatest singers, ever to have lived, in their prime. She also has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard, for me up there with singers like Whitney Houston and Karen Carpenter. In addition to her appearances earlier this year with David Foster, where he predicted she would become a global superstar, at one point Mariah Carey's former producer Rhett Lawrence was trying to sign her to Capitol Records, called her talent "unparalleled" and said he thought she could be bigger than Mariah and the other stars he's worked with. Unfortunately, the pandemic got in the way of those plans and then she decided to get married and stay in the Philippines...que sera sera. I think you forgot to notice the no breathing long range part on the last chorus that she wasn't almost breathing. That was so insane. She was able to hold her breath that long. That was really intense. Not a lot of singers could do that. That was real power

Hi guys, thank you so much for your reaction to my favorite singer! I wrote a blurb about her in case you're interested in learning more about her 😊
Morissette is 27 years old. She was 21 in the Akin Ka Na Lang video. Her father was a rock singer and her original musical influence. Her first name is actually Johanne and her middle name is Morissette, having been named after Johann Sebastian Bach and Alanis Morissette (clearly a music-loving family!).
One of the signatures of her voice is her use of grit/distortion/intentional vocal breaks, and I think this is her father's influence showing 🙂 She also had a bit of musical theatre training when she was on the Philippines' version of Camp Rock, and even though her main genre is pop, she does gorgeous renditions of music from other genres (including musical theatre) while staying true to her signature sound.
She is incredibly resilient. When she was 11, she had surgery for a throat tumor and was terrified she may never sing again. Thankfully, that didn't happen! She did a number of singing competitions while growing up, including The Voice Philippines, but kept falling short of the very top. (As a longtime musician who lives in the US and isn't Filipino but has followed Filipino music for 30+ years, in my opinion this is because her voice and singing style are different than what is typically popular there. Lots of fans are obsessed with belting with as much power and ornamentation as possible, for instance). She will readily admit this became so discouraging that she almost decided to throw in the towel and give up on her dream.
But her stint on The Voice opened doors with people who couldn't deny her talent, and she signed a record and TV deal with the largest network. Ironically, she became a member of a four-person group called the Birit ("belting") Queens on that network's weekly singing show. She can belt with the best of them, but her style leans more toward elegance than sheer, unadulterated power (though she is plenty capablebof both). In fact, when her initial contract ended about three years ago and she became an independent artist, she made a deliberate shift away from the "birit" style of singing. She also deliberately shifted away from using her whistle register so much, even though it's an ability she's always naturally had, largely because she didn't want to be pigeonholed as "that singer who can do whistle tones."
I came across her by sheer dumb luck several years ago. Her voice immediately drew me in and sent me down a rabbithole. I was delighted to discover that the more I watched and listened to, the more impressed I was. For me, she really has it all - rock solid technique, stunning technical prowess, a voice that is both distinct AND known for its sheer beauty, an innate gift for musicality, magnetic stage presence, staggering versatility. She sings with the proficiency of many of the greatest singers, ever to have lived, in their prime. She also has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard, for me up there with singers like Whitney Houston and Karen Carpenter.
In addition to her appearances earlier this year with David Foster, where he predicted she would become a global superstar, at one point Mariah Carey's former producer Rhett Lawrence was trying to sign her to Capitol Records, called her talent "unparalleled" and said he thought she could be bigger than Mariah and the other stars he's worked with. Unfortunately, the pandemic got in the way of those plans and then she decided to get married and stay in the Philippines...que sera sera. At any rate, I am so happy you discovered her and encourage you to please continue exploring all she has to offer. She is absolutely the real deal and for me, one of the best singers I've ever heard anywhere.

I'm from the Philippines and I can say that Morissette deserves more recognition. She joined The Voice Philippines but lost to another great talent, Mitoy. Her agency should double their effort to promote her. The world deserves to hear her voice. She's one of the best Philippine's singer.
