Dude, you just saved me a ton of aggravation and money. I get the new ink, go to switch blacks, and it doesn't recognize it. I'm thinking it's a bad chip. Tried restarting, etc. So there was no mention from Epson about this (to me), no mention on the website where I order my ink, and the issue didn't show up right away in a google search. I was lucky enough to search for firmware updates and found your video. Wish I could buy you a beer.
Can you still use the old ink even after the firmware update? I have a ton of the old ink, but need to do the firmware update just for the new ink and I only need one color of the new ink.
Does the Firmware update allow me to use the old ink concurrently withe the new ink? I have a good supply of the old ink and will likely be adding the new ink only as needed. I am afraid to do the update for fear of rendering all my old ink supply on hand useless.
Hello there. So I am facing the same problem here if you could help I would really appreciate. As epson support didn't. So I have bought cartridge but p6000 doesn't see it. But I cannot update firmware as well because it demands in menu to change cartridge otherwise I cannot access the menu. And Cartridge is not recognized by printer :) thank you in advance.
Very helpful... but what about this: One of my cartridges has run empty and needs to be changed. I have the new ink (with the new chip that requires the firmware update). So, with the old ink I am getting a "Change Ink" error, but if I put in the new ink I am getting an "Ink Missing" error. Both of which seem to fail the update at 16%. Any ideas?
@@HeidiRousingKnudsen Happy to report that I actually do! 1. Turn off the printer 2. While it is off, press and hold all 4 directional arrow buttons on the control panel. 3. Turn the printer on... This should put the printer into Firmware More (it worked for me). This will bypass any warnings that are coming up and allow you to install the firmware update (which I did via my computer, connected via USB to the printer) 4. Update should run as it's meant to and reboot the printer when it's finished. Otherwise you'd need one of the older item number inks, which I could not find anywhere. Hopefully that helps. Good luck!

@@joshboyd6570 I'm still using the old ink in every color except the black, so I believe the answer is yes. The old ink still works for me any way.

This worked perfectly and was super simple, thanks man!
Some problem with old ink after new firmware update?
@@ivanoblu No issue with the older ink cartridges still in there. This just allowed me to use the newer, so I got a mix of both right now

Does this fix the one time chip change for refillable cartridge
I’m curious as well. I’m converting to dtf but to my understanding you can’t reset after 15 times
LOl , it will block third party chips obviously , epson is trying to kill the third party ink market , dont update
Hmmmm I have no idea
I tried updating, but the update fails at 16% (tried both USB and Ethernet) with a message complaining about the USB/Ethernet not being connected.
