Hi Jim; Thought I'd send you a quick update re: Mylio. I just got Photo Raw Max 2024. I've done about a dozen different photo tests from Mylio > On1 Photo Raw 2024 > click Brilliance AI > Done > return to Mylio with a PSD. All worked perfectly and the edits were very good without retouching, not perfect, but very good. It works seamlessly and have the best of both worlds, a top class editor and an awesome DAM. Love it... well worth the wait.
Thanks Marc and I am out of town doing a workshop so I haven't had time to use Mylio with On1 yet, so thanks for confirming that it is a smooth process. Glad you are having fun with it!
Tks for this tip Jim. I have loaded and playing some but watching videos first then doing. Great help!!
thanks for watching Merle!
So glad to see this video just as I was going to ti sleep. Looking forward to 2024 ON1 Raw in the morning. Thank you Jim!
Thanks and have fun with it!
Thanks Jim! That will teach me to watch your videos BEFORE I spend a ton of time futzing around with a new ON1 version on my own. I just couldn’t figure that one out. 👍🏻
haha no worries Ted, as I said in the video it was On1 that told me that, I couldn't figure it out either 🤣
Thanks, Jim, you helped me solve a problem I was experiencing, I had the white balance set to auto, which was fine for the majority of my images, but if I did that to images shot in raw on my iPhone, they would get a hideous pink cast over the image, that I would have to manually remove, but it handles images from the Nikon just fine. Flipping to "as-shot" for the iPhone RAW images corrects the problem. Thank you for sending me in the right direction.
glad this helped and thanks for watching!
Jim
I have the release version and they set the White Balance Default on Auto.
Kinda make sense for them to do that, thanks for confirming.
Thanks for the tip regarding As Shot and Auto. I would NEVER have figured that out:-)
Thanks and happy to share, it was confusing me too! :-)
The programs are becoming more and more complex and you have to work a lot with them to know all the options.
Thanks Jim
Thanks much and yes there is a lot to know about every app and it gets challenging to keep up at times, but it is fun. Thanks for watching!
Good one Jim, no doubt that has saved a lot of head scarring 👍👍 keep the tips and tricks coming
thank you Jase!
@@JimNix that was head scratching.... Autocorrect 😂😂 have a great day
@@kiwi2xs haha I figured as much, and have a great day as well!
Hello Jim,
not sure I'm crazy about having to set white balance to Auto, but thank you for pointing this out. Every previous version of ON1 you could set to As Shot and make adjustments as needed. I found Auto was inaccurate on previous versions and I always set a custom white balance with my camera while shooting. People often use white cards or other methods to dial the white balance in while on location. Doing that and then having ON1 say you can't further adjust the color unless you let them determine the Auto white balance isn't ideal. This along with today's complete disaster of 2024s launch has me leaning away from them. My Photo Raw 2023 wouldn't even open and I hadn't even installed 2024 yet. Lots of people had lots of issues with this. Looks like their marketing department has far too much say over products these days. The support people are earning their money today. Thanks for all you bring Jim.
Thanks and yeah I heard about the server issues but sounds like they are resolved now. I hope you have fun editing with it. I appreciate you watching.
Jim: Thanks for the heads up. I will set mine as soon as I get it tomorrow. That is valuable help. Also, the haircut still looks good. Thank your barber. ;-)
Thanks for watching Danny!
Many thanks for the heads up on the Auto white balance Jim. That's one of the reasons we watch your videos for the useful hints and tips. Looking forward to getting my copy tomorrow.
Thanks for watching Ken and have fun tomorrow!
Usefull indeed! Thanks Jim.
thanks Marleen!
Good stuff Jim ... That should save a bit of head scratching.
Cheers Martin 👍
Thanks Martin and I hope it helps everyone.
Great tips! Thanks, Jim!
thanks so much Geoff!
Trick I learnt yesterday that you likely already know ; add a HDR filter to landscapes, and other stuff ---- compliment of Anthony Monganti
The joy of personal editing is being lost just like the simplicity of photography is lost to digital camera. But nothing should stay the same
yes HDR filter is one of my faves for sure!
IMHO, you did not show us what the color slider actually does. Explain, if possible.
Hello, is it similar to luminar neo enhance?
Similar in some ways. I will likely do a video discussing this.
Great tip, Jim. I'd never have found that. 👍
Thanks and yeah I didn't find it either until they told me. 🤣
@@JimNix now you know why I love listening to your tutorials, Jim. Your modesty/honesty. 🧡
@@DrJBHL thanks so much 🙏🏻
makes total sense when you think about it
Oh for sure, it does. I guess I wasn't thinking about it LOL.
Thanks Jim
Thank you for watching!
Am I the only one finding that Brilliance AI renders the colors kinda weird ? To me they look flat and cartoony or painterly I don't know but the pictures look off...
I have, it overdoes them then back off with the slider. It's a starting point
Generally I would be careful about how far you push the slider (any slider, really). As long as you don't go too far it seems to work well for me thus far.
I felt the exact same way...looks kinda cheap tbh ( at least for Portraits). But maybe I have to play around with it a bit more
Well, when you block out large sections and process them individually, then there is a good probability that they will loose their original coherence. I see the same thing on many of their tutorial videos -- pre "brilliant" AI.
@@frijitz001 I definitely think you have to be careful not to push to far. And this is also why I like to use Effects (esp some of the color tools) to make sure the overall look is maintained.
Jim, have you done any batch processing with portraits or groups in the new ON1 2024 Raw? I found a couple of things that have been discouraging and frustrating. One being the speed of loading and being able to make adjustments after opening a photo from the browser window, and second, batch processing. I select a few dozen AWR (Sony RAW, each file averaging 66MB) files and open them in the browser and ON1 takes a while before I can start applying any adjustments - sometimes up to 20 seconds. It's a bummer since they claim faster speeds and I'm on a MacBook M2 Max - a super fast MacBook. As for batching, specifically when creating a preset using Face Brightening, I have found that Face Brightening only sees one face at a time. Thus if I'm working on a photo that includes a group of people and choose to add Face Brightening, the software sees all the faces and shows little thumbnails of them at the top of the adjustments section, but I would need to select each face before applying Face Brightening. The problem is, I can't select all faces individually in the hopes of making my final result a preset to apply later to a all the photos in the browser. This is why I still use Luminar AI to do this. Luminar AI will see all the faces and brighten them when applying a Template to any number of photos in the Luminar AI browser. I sent ON1 a tech support message about this specifically and they answered but didn't address this question/feature. Thanks for all your great work as usual!
Thanks for the info Jim. I noticed at 2:56 in when you moved the Color Amount slider it didn't seem to do anything. Was that a glitch or is that slider made not to do much? Thanks!
It was pretty subtle and since I was moving fast it likely didn't catch up with me. It can depend on the photo of course. thanks TC
@@JimNix You’re welcome Jim. I’ll be divin into it myself soon! 😎💜😎
@@TC_Conner have fun!
I would have fallen into exactly the same trap, so thanks! :)
You are welcome, thanks for watching Caroline!
Thanks.
thanks for watching!
great tips. I find your foreground orange trees not very beautiful. I say that, not to criticize the photo, but because i recently commented a ON1 video where they applied brillance ai on portraits and i had the feeling the skin became like a uniform orange look on faces removing all hot spots,... perhaps just a feeling...
Thanks Marc and understood. I do think Brilliance AI does a great job but I don't push it too far. And of course you may want to refine the colors a little with HSL etc. Thanks.
I prefer using 23.5 version. Better fonts and layout. AI in 24 is a gimmick!! No reason to upgrade.
If you don't want it, you don't have to get it.
@@JimNix You buy software on things promised by companies and some reviewers. It’s not always correct!

Not thrilled with ON1 2024..!
Oh really, why not?
Time to switch to LR
LR has gotten better and better for sure. On1 is very solid as well.
Hello, is it similar to luminar neo enhance?
Similar but different. I will likely do a video comparing them.
