I think along with Aphex Twin, and the Future Sound of London, you are one the greats of Electronic music. It's pure sonic genius. I love your long sets, your transitions are seemless.
If you ever decide to make a patreon and maybe do synthesizer tutorials or sound design tutorials I'll be the first to sign up gladly pay a monthly fee because it's hard if you're practicing the wrong techniques over and over you never get anywhere you know
This set is my fav…. After all these years too…. Brother you need to make more techno with this bpm !!! Amazing music…. You remind me of Paul kalkbrenner soooo much with this set 😊 Sending love n respect from the UK 🇬🇧 ❤👊
I was really impressed during listening your performance, and it was also an extraordinary moment when I discovered that cute Cat at the end of the video.
gute arbeit martin. dein video hat mir dann auch die letzte entscheidung einfacher gemacht welcher synth es für mich noch sein soll. der pro-2 geht echt ab, verdammt gute ergänzung zum ob-6 und sub-37.
It's amazing how similar some of these "vibes" (structure of percussion) are to some forms of traditional African tribal music.Of course the method of production is very different.
found you over my research on the Elektron Rytm, very nice work! One questions do the kickdrums, for instance at 26:34. How much of that is processed/sampled before and how much of it is the pure Rytm? Do you layer processed and on-board analogue sounds a lot? I believe that would be what makes me very interested in the Elektron.
The Kick drum machines are what I used most from the internal machines. Hi Hats are almost all sample based but the AR´s Kicks are fantastic! It has been a while but I think that I had no samples for the kickdrum in this liveset. For the other percussion sounds I layer samples and the "analog" machines very often. You should try the noise generator, it is a powerful tool with the Elektron sequencer.
thanks Martin, your input on the Rytm is much appreciated! Nice to see some quality sound coming from home (I´m from Siegen), maybe lets catch each others tail on Soundcloud, will send you a message
+sundues keep in mind that RYTM can't sequence other gear and many said that its analog sound is lacking when used without overlaying samples. Also it is not opensource, so You can not add midi sequencer output by yourself... Those facts, along with headaches associated with preparing/transferring samples (they had to be exact BPM etc) made me reconsider buying it.
awesome! I'm always interested in how you and others transition to the next song in your live sets. do you just bring in one new sound and then switch pattern on the Rytm? and with that pattern change, comes a kit change, right?
Good question! I try to explain my setup: Each device is running a pattern, let´s say pattern "1". When all devices play the same pattern number the "track" is running with all parts that I prepared for that track. Let´s assume that the next song has all machines running on pattern "3" then I of course don´t switch all machines at the same time. That would result in a harsh break. Instead I switch one at a time. When I prepare the liveset I try to find gaps, for example I see that I have a track where I don´t use the Virus TI. I can then blend it in smoothly while everything else is running. Next trick: I copy sounds in the Analog Rytm from one pattern to the next. That means that there are always a few parts of the drumtracks that stay the same after a change of patterns. And yes: each Analog Rytm pattern has it´s own kit.
Martin Stürtzer I would pay to see your setup explained, btw! Would be open to showcasing your talents (live sets or dj sets) on my friend's platform Grooveo and getting paid for it?
i just got a pro 2 and cant get my sequencer to do sequences besides a full 16 or 32.. i noticed you were able to do a 8 note sequence... what am i not seeing? haha. would appreciate your advice, great music!
When you hit the record button you can enter a new sequence. Simply put in the amount of notes you like and hit the Play/Stop button. There is no way to shorten a pattern after it is recorded.
Do you have saved patterns per program. Looks like you send prg changes from Rytm and Pro2 sets with preloaded sequencer data? It also looks that the sequncer loop does run after you turn volume down on Pro2. How is that? Is that looped in ableton so you can change the patern? I am really considering getting Pro 2. I think you have one of the best Pro 2 examples on how Pro 2 is used/ can be used for aTechno/minimal production. Are you still in love wth the synth? i assume the sequencer does play a big role. Thank you.
You are correct but I change the patterns manually and not with program changes. That allows me to have smoother transitions between the tracks and give me more flexibility when I play. I must say that the Pro2 is not my favourite synth of all times, the sequencer is rather unstable and complicated to edit compared to my other sequencers like the Elektron ones or the modular stuff I use now.
Which one is then ;-) Looks like you are comfortable with anything on the table. And it looks like you know Pro2 quite well and using it a lot. I was testing Rev2 and to me is just very noisy. Also looking forward to check Prophet6. I did not get along with Pro2 well after about a month of testing and returned it but watching your videos I am not sure I should regret that decision or not. Cheers.
Very nice Martin...great work :) Your routing with the motu midi express has given me some ideas ! However, I'm still a little confused as to how I can complete my routing ( with minimal cash layout ) with a new high quality audio interface which is much needed. Could I ask you and others for your advice please ? I have a Alpha Juno2 and a Juno 106 running through a few guitar pedals effects, an Elektron Machinedrum and N.I Maschine....Id like to create a workflow ( and perhaps using an outboard mixer ) to record a good signal all into Logic X with all the tracks. I can't afford a UAD apollo 16, could one use the apollo twin or something similar ? Also the juno's dont have CV...
Hi! I am also using a Motu ultralite mk3 interface for traveling and gigs. It´s quite cheap and has eight inputs (plus two digital if I am correct). It also has MIDI so that you can control your Junos with it. Since it only has one midi-out you would need to connect the midi thru from one synth with the midi in of the other synth. Both need a dedicated midi channel and then you can trigger both synths separately with one midi interface.
Thanks Martin ! Yes the Motu is a great idea as it has midi...would one need a card with a pre amp to push the analogue signal if i use it for recording ? I wish the bigger interfaces had more midi in's then I could use it for drum machines and other effects too.
I don´t think so, I never use preamps for my synths. But don´t tell this to the preamp-industry! ;) The MIDI protocol has 16 channels. This means that you can control up to 16 devices with one midi output! A big midi interface is not always necessary. But you have to take into account that midi is quite slow (it´s from 1983) and if you make a midi thru chain with 10 devices you will probably hear a little latency.
Fantastic! Love the sounds. A question on routing for you, if you don't mind. How do you route your synths into your soundcard? Do you use a patchbay or mixer or have the 16 input UAD Apollo? A combination of these? Thank you once again for sharing your inspiration!
Thank you! I have an Apollo 8 and a patchbay. The AR is connected by USB with overbridge, the rest is going through the patchbay into the Apollo. As much as I like analog instruments I prefer a digital signal path and avoid mixers. Before spending an awful amount of money you only get noise and distortion from them. And Push2 does an excellent job for mixing and controlling my channels.
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question Martin and for the insight into your routing! So true when it comes to a digital path. I totally agree. I am also a fan of Push 2. Cheers and looking forward to hearing more of your music!
Awesome set, I really love it :) May I ask you what audio interface do you use? you say it is a UAD Apollo but wich one? I'm looking to buy one... would you recomand it? I have two elektron and a few synth I would like to run through Ableton (with push 2)
Thank you! I have the first Apollo with firewire. I am not sure exactly how it is called, it just says "Apollo" on the box. :) I can recommend that interface, it replaced my mixer. Elektron made Overbridge working (finally) so I am only using the Apollo for my non-elektron synths at the moment. My advise would be to get a second hand "old" Apollo, prices dropped on the market when the blackface 2nd generation was released.
You sir, are a real musician. What you're doing is amazing!
had shrooms plus some weed recently...just lying around the house...this was the best soundtrack i could imagine. thanks
I am impressed! :)
I bet no one can imagine your trip that day
i was lounging on a sofa at the edge of space. the colors of all moving objects was as if peeling off and flying away like pixel dust.
@Camilo Caden you obviously do not have any trust issues whatsoever
I think along with Aphex Twin, and the Future Sound of London, you are one the greats of Electronic music. It's pure sonic genius. I love your long sets, your transitions are seemless.

Genial la sesión bro saludos desde tijuana
So then the device with the square green lights is the drum percucion system ?
That is correct! It is the Analog Rytm mk1 from Elektron.
excellent
love it!!!

nice. that explains a lot. your sounds are insane
Sehr, sehr nice
Awesome man
Great video
really good music!!
The pro 2 is one of the most badass looking synths you can have
I think DSI will announce a new Pro this NAMM.. Just a guess..
@@Emiel1983Schoonoord you were correct.
@@marvinkmooneyoz but still the pro 2 remains the winner imho : )
