    I see the value in supporting whoever made the palate originally but at the same time it’s pretty amazing to know you can get that quality for that price, especially if you’re living on a tight budget and can’t be spending a bunch of money on makeup. Thanks for the review!

    Lol. "Rip off dupes" i love hush. What's a rip off is paying 129+ dollars for a Natasha demona susnset palette when i can get Bad Habbit Solstice palette for 14 bucks. Big names are rippin off us little people. Solstice is better than demonas palette too. You're better off in bama anyways. Remember what it was like to not live the fancy life and make a name, make your money, and get your pr. We are the 99% and hush is smashin it. ♡

    I understand how as a creator yourself you value creative integrity and original ideas etc. but a lot of girls wearing makeup that these brands are catering to, are young and in school and/or on a budget and can't afford to drop $65 on ONE eyeshadow palette. I personally can't and I don't want to anyway because I just don't believe in spending that much money on something that is just going to literally go down the drain at the end of the day. But I do get your point and where you're coming from!

    From my perspective, these dupes are okay for individuals who have a deep-rooted love for makeup but can't afford many high-end products. With that said, we should never fail to praise originality and creativity. If you can afford to support creators, you should absolutely do so... especially if their products are worth it to you! Thank you, Laura, for allowing us to become more ethical consumers and bringing our attention to dilemmas like these! Love you!

    I totally understand where you're coming from about it being the original idea of Huda, but if the knock off brand can make the same product and sell it for $55 less, why is Huda selling it for so much money?

    • @feymeow
      @feymeow 7 лет назад +9

      Hannah Schulman theres a whole marketing, branding part of the business.

    • @aliyak7507
      @aliyak7507 7 лет назад +5

      It way too different in terms of performing. Huda Beauty is so buttery pigmented and last long. The knock off i purchase from this app is not even close. Subculture also the one that pigments are so much better. Yeah it is hard to blend Subculture but the pigments is undeniable.

    • @somerandoontheinternet5210
      @somerandoontheinternet5210 6 лет назад +22

      Keep in mind that you’re also paying for the name here, much like other high-end brands as well. Also, Huda would invest much more into a product than just the formulation of it, because they’d have to put in money for the marketing of the product and such.

  • @_KendraChristine
    @_KendraChristine 7 лет назад +74

    I can understand going both ways on dupes like this, I can see where it’s ripping off the original artist, but... from a consumers standpoint I feel as though maybe the original artists rip us off sometimes, cause if you can get just as good quality with good packaging and a mirror with highly pigmented shadows then we know it’s possible to make things more affordable, $65 for an eyeshadow palette is very very high, so I feel like most brands actually rip us off as consumers, cause they keep raising the prices on products that they know we love and that we will get suckered into buying... just my view on it.

  • @nicolemaiden8266
    @nicolemaiden8266 6 лет назад +104

    That term "rip off" isn't a great term

    • @AmbieShinee
      @AmbieShinee 6 лет назад +7

      It's like grocery stores have their "store band items" but all it pretty much is is the name brand items that are put into store brand packaging and then sold for much less. I don't understand why people freak out when it happens to makeup because it's not hurting the name brand makeup. There will be people who only buy the name brand anyway.

  • @tierneyheisinger2010
    @tierneyheisinger2010 7 лет назад +68

    I bought the Retro Love palette not just because it was only $10, but because I heard reviews that it was even better quality than the original ABH palette. I mean, I bought the legit ABH Prism palette even though shortly after Bad Habit came out with a dupe for it, but I had to really consider it. I feel like there’s rarely any 100% unique eyeshadows anymore, so if a person can get good quality for less then why not?

  • @smashley87
    @smashley87 7 лет назад +71

    I don't think it's a rip-off at all. In fact, this just goes to show you how much big brands are the ones ripping people off. If you can make a high-quality palette and sell it for only $10, I'm there. Sorry name brands, not sorry.

  • @tiffanylick751
    @tiffanylick751 7 лет назад +9

    I personally think dupes have always been around. I love the original brands and I love their products but I don’t always love their prices. I think dupes lately have just gotten really good with great quality. I could honestly see myself buying these products just because they DO work and they ARE good quality. Especially for palettes I haven’t bought because I don’t think I’ll use them enough to justify a $60 price point. However, $12 I can justify even if I only touch it once in a while. My personal thoughts!

  • @stephandandy2287
    @stephandandy2287 7 лет назад +127

    In my opinion, it's the high end companies that are the rip off. I get what you're saying about it being that person's pallet but at the same time if a "rip off" company can produce almost identical product for 10 dollars why are we being charged 65?? I think the high end beauty companies need to be a little more reasonable with pricing and the rip off companies wouldn't even exist 💜

    I feel it's no different than Forever21 making similar styled clothing to zara or topshop styles... or bearpaw doing the same styles of ugg... it's a world of free competition and unfortunately not everyone can afford the original designer/brand so it's nice to have accessible options on differing price scales... just my opinion :)

    Think of this as just the 'generic' version of the palette. Across the board from foods, medicine, fashion, electronics, even cars offer the high end and the very similar more affordable version. I personally don't take issue with it. Stores like Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens all offer their version of items right next to brand names on the shelf. If you can afford to splurge, and want to treat yourself, then go for it...but everyone has a different price point and its nice to be able to experience and enjoy things that would otherwise be way beyond your means.

    In my opinion making rip offs of high end makeup like this is not a bad thing AT ALL. If a different beauty brand can make ALMOST the same palette for $55 less... Then isn't the high end brand ripping us (the consumers) off ? There were a few shades that didn't work as my bb Laura Lee showed but how in Hades would it take an extra $55 to fix the few shades that did not work ???? There's no way that the higher end brands charging $60+ per palette are not making an EXTREMELY high profit. *Simply my opinion. Plz don't come for me yall*

    With ripoffs/dupes it’s so hard bc I know that the original brand deserves profit & stuff, but I can’t really afford high end at the point in life🤷🏻‍♀️ so I’ll take a dupe, but later on when I can afford it, I’ll definitely buy the originals

  • @morgancarroll4237

    I feel like RUclips beauty gurus have made a lot of dupe videos and no one was saying that it was bad then. Bad Habit saw where ABH failed and capitalized on it. As for the Huda Beauty palettes it’s absolutely insane. Really 65$ for an eyeshadow palette? Huda is not a luxury brand. I mean I can spend 15$ extra and get an actual luxury brand quad like the Tom Ford Quads. I feel like as long as they aren’t calling it the same or ripping off any logos, fonts etc. I think there is no issues.

  • @nikkiblum1046
    @nikkiblum1046 6 лет назад +10

    Here's my thought on dupes... I would never, EVER, spend $65 on a palette. So Huda is not losing any business by me buying the dupe. I'm not spending the $10 instead of the $65, I'm spending the $10 instead of $0.

      Yeah I am all about buying your top favorite huda palette and then get 3-5 of the others because I don't have 60 bucks to throw on each palette when I could get 6 of the others. If I had more money I would spend more if it was worth it. But a single mom of 3, yeah I can't swing that much dough at once on something that isn't a necessity.

    In a way, it isn’t fair to the companies that work for years coming up with the concepts and ideas for these palettes. At the same time though, there are people that can’t afford a $65 palette. So it’s nice for the people that can’t otherwise get them. Maybe if the high end companies would consider lowering their prices people wouldn’t have to look to dupe palettes to be able to get what they want.

    For people who love makeup but can’t afford high end palettes I like that this is available but also feel that is taking away from whoever designed the palette initially. It is stealing ideas so to speak but we live in a world of knock offs now a Days...clothes, electronics, makeup, jewelry hell even knock off people!!!!

  • @TeaCosette

    I don’t think there’s anything wrong with dupes simply because there’s so many out there who can’t afford the higher end makeup but still want to play with makeup and learn. There’s something out there for everyone. I tend to save to purchase the palette I really want. But there’s so many coming out at a time that it’s hard to keep up so this is a great way to grab similar shades and play without being dirt broke or missing out.

    I do agree that the palette idea does belong to the original brand... but at the same time not all of your viewers are able to purchase the original. I don’t think it’s really fair to talk down on the people who do but the dupes. You can tell that your tone changes when you talk about the knock off ones, and it’s kind of disheartening. I’m in college as a full time student with two jobs and I babysit on the side. No matter how badly I wish I could purchase all the palettes that you use on your channel, that’s just not part of my budget right now. I have rent to pay and college debt and I have to feed myself. I don’t have extra money to spend. It just seems like lately you have been assuming that lower priced items are automatically worse when that’s not always the case. I respect you and your videos but it is frustrating that lately it seems like you’re talking down on those who can’t afford to buy all the high end products

    I think this is fine. I’ve said that I would NEVER spend money on the subculture pallet because of the quality but I love the color scheme and if there were another pallet super similar I would buy it. But I refuse to drop almost $50 of my own money on something that’s garbage. If it’s made well and safely and well and not pretending to be the exact same pallet like Chinese made unsafe knockoffs are then I don’t see an issue with it.

    I love to have the original palettes personally but there are some that I feel it's nice to know I can get a dupe for. When the price starts reaching up to $75 - $100 or more I question it and would probably pass it up for a dupe. I also like knowing I can get nice palettes for my nieces who are teens now so they can learn and practice without worrying if they will take care of them properly and I can also get them more options to start building their make up collections. As they get older we can talk originals but for starting out the dupes are a great way to introduce them.
