I'm a retired paramedic now but back then... my motherhood could override all else when it came knowing they were safe despite my training. Before my children, when we'd have calls involving kids, I never understood how a parent could be so panicked and not know what to do when their child was sick or injured. That was before I had my own and truly understood their fear. My children made me a better person and a better paramedic just by their existence. They were truly a gift. I tell them that often.

Coming from a highly dysfunctional home with an absent biological father and then two step fathers in the first twelve years of my life. These were all very selfish, self-centered, abusive people. It is hard for me to fathom that parents actually truly love their children since I never experienced it. Now my boys have grown into successful young adults and I'm very proud of them. And proud of us and that we managed the situation correctly.

We always told them that mom and dad loves them with all our hearts no matter what. We never dicussed bad things in front of them and acted like adults. And seeing our children flourish was everything I ever wanted. After all - he was a horrible husband - but a fantastic father. And taking the children away from him as "punishment" would ruin my children the most. My children are 24 and 26 now and I couldn't be more proud. They are well educated, have good jobs, and my youngest have found himself a darling of a girlfriend. I'm so proud of the choices we made back then. If just ONE parent could read this story and think of the outcome before they use their children as pawns against an ex, I have done my job. They found CP of Caleb going back to when he was 14 on his laptop computer along with other boys. The last update I could find shows he has two other cases pending regarding the other victims. It appears Caleb still hadn't been found as of 2022 and Ricky Dale Howard hasn't been charged in his disappearance or murder as of that time.
He has alot of property and wells . I hate to thi k what he did with his body. We know he got rid of him. He's possible a serial killer that has hired drifters on his farming and ranches. Sicko. Who are his other victims? Poor boys so sad

When I was really young, I lost a friend from church to a similar situation. His parents were divorcing because the father was abusive, and my friend and his sister got taken out of school one day by the dad (who was not on the list to check them out, and also wrote really concerning stuff as the reason for checking them out--the school system also really failed these kids). He murdered them rather than lose custody to their mom. The cops shot him on arrival. I was too young to entirely understand at the time, but I remember it really shaking my parents and the other parents at church. It's been decades, and I don't know what happened to my friend's mom--last I'd heard, there was a local charity in the kids' name--but I really hope she's doing well. As well as possible, anyway. Cases like this one really get to me. Children aren't possessions that people can just break when they're angry. It makes me livid when parents treat them that way.
Back in December 1999 in the Phoenix, AZ area, a man doused his 2-yo daughter with gasoline and set her on fire. She ran around in circles before collapsing and dying. It was horrendous. He initially received a death sentence, but that was eventually overturned, and he is serving life in prison.

My husband and I took our sons from Fairfax, VA to OC, Maryland on an unplanned trip one January or Feburary. We had to buy clothes and swimsuits when we arrived, since were only intending to go out for the day. We all had so much fun. The boys (10 and 5) played at the edge of the ocean, built a sandcastle, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They are in their 30's now and still talk about that improptu trip. Some might consider taking young childen to the beach during winter reckless. They were constantly watched for any sign that they were too cold. And both count it as one of their favorite memories. For my family, OC, MD is a happy memory. How heartbreaking that a selfish and manipulative mother used a trip to the beach to kill her child. Simply evil.
I guess I'm jaded because I've watched true crime all my life, but the second family seemed off... before they even mentioned the ex-con was molesting other kids, I had a feeling he was a predator. Parents, if an adult takes a special interest in one of your children (especially if you have multiple), you need to pay attention. Predators are almost always someone you know, and do not trust that you are a good judge of character.

In cases like this, after the mother is found guilty and charged with murder or attempted murder/child abuse, they should order the child's birth certificate to be legally changed (even if the child is dead) and remove the mothers (or fathers, if he committed the crime) name, especially if the child is still alive.

speculation on the second case...................... the 300$ attached to the steering wheel was a bribe because Caleb when he brought the truck back, Ricky wasnt in the barn, Caleb saw the computer, looked at what was on it, saw incriminating whatever and if itis true Ricky was a pedo, then Caleb might have seen child porn on it. When I left my husband in a cotentious divorce, we didn't even speak of the children. It's a given that the problems between the grown - ups stay between the grown - ups, and in front of the children we're still a united front. And the children spend one week with dad and one week with me, every other Christmas etc. The only loosers if you use your children as pawns are the children themselves. Now my boys have grown into successful young adults and I'm very proud of them. And proud of us and that we managed the situation correctly.

We always told them that mom and dad loves them with all our hearts no matter what. We never dicussed bad things in front of them and acted like adults. And seeing our children flourish was everything I ever wanted. After all - he was a horrible husband - but a fantastic father. And taking the children away from him as "punishment" would ruin my children the most. My children are 24 and 26 now and I couldn't be more proud. They are well educated, have good jobs, and my youngest have found himself a darling of a girlfriend. I'm so proud of the choices we made back then. If just ONE parent could read this story and think of the outcome before they use their children as pawns against an ex, I have done my job. I knew it would only make things more stressful for our children and we weren’t going to do that. We may not be married anymore but we will both always be their parents. They need both of us!!

Ricky Dale Howard was convicted of se+ exploitation of a minor (Caleb Deil) and sentenced to 30 years. They found CP of Caleb going back to when he was 14 on his laptop computer along with other boys. The last update I could find shows he has two other cases pending regarding the other victims. It appears Caleb still hadn't been found as of 2022 and Ricky Dale Howard hasn't been charged in his disappearance or murder as of that time.

I have no words for this Horrific Tragedy, R.I.H Little one in the arms of the Angels in Heaven. Im so so so sorry for what you went through.
When I was really young, I lost a friend from church to a similar situation. His parents were divorcing because the father was abusive, and my friend and his sister got taken out of school one day by the dad (who was not on the list to check them out, and also wrote really concerning stuff as the reason for checking them out--the school system also really failed these kids). He murdered them rather than lose custody to their mom. The cops shot him on arrival. I was too young to entirely understand at the time, but I remember it really shaking my parents and the other parents at church. It's been decades, and I don't know what happened to my friend's mom--last I'd heard, there was a local charity in the kids' name--but I really hope she's doing well. As well as possible, anyway. Cases like this one really get to me. Children aren't possessions that people can just break when they're angry. It makes me livid when parents treat them that way.
Back in December 1999 in the Phoenix, AZ area, a man doused his 2-yo daughter with gasoline and set her on fire. She ran around in circles before collapsing and dying. It was horrendous. He initially received a death sentence, but that was eventually overturned, and he is serving life in prison.
May she be reincarnated into a wonderful family.

My husband and I took our sons from Fairfax, VA to OC, Maryland on an unplanned trip one January or Feburary.
We had to buy clothes and swimsuits when we arrived, since were only intending to go out for the day.
We all had so much fun. The boys (10 and 5) played at the edge of the ocean, built a sandcastle, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They are in their 30's now and still talk about that improptu trip.
Some might consider taking young childen to the beach during winter reckless. They were constantly watched for any sign that they were too cold. And both count it as one of their favorite memories.
For my family, OC, MD is a happy memory. How heartbreaking that a selfish and manipulative mother used a trip to the beach to kill her child. Simply evil.

I guess I'm jaded because I've watched true crime all my life, but the second family seemed off... before they even mentioned the ex-con was molesting other kids, I had a feeling he was a predator. Parents, if an adult takes a special interest in one of your children (especially if you have multiple), you need to pay attention. Predators are almost always someone you know, and do not trust that you are a good judge of character.

In cases like this, after the mother is found guilty and charged with murder or attempted murder/child abuse, they should order the child's birth certificate to be legally changed (even if the child is dead) and remove the mothers (or fathers, if he committed the crime) name, especially if the child is still alive.
