I just heard this song just now today Sept 31/24 hardest Christian song I ever heard 95 " I was not who I am today! Glad I found my way back😊 ! Yeshua Saves !

I just introduced my little brother to this song. I was first introduced to it by a teacher in elementary school by my favorite teacher. He was just as moved by it as I was.
I got saved during high school. I was a Satanist and a drug dealer at my high school. And I got invited to a ministry group that didn’t judge me for having hair down to my shoulders and earrings (this was back in the 90’s)… I got radically saved!! I have since gotten a degree in education and a Masters degree in Apologetics… and have been blessed to help hundreds of people come to know the Lord. Thank you for sharing your faith. It’s been a blessing to more people than you can genuinely know!!

A few of my favorites: Rich Mullins (Greatest Hits) Paper Boys (Our god Reigns) Amy Grant Jars of Clay Stephen Curtis Chapman (Great Adventure) Hills Song - (Lots of songs) There is lots of great stuff out there. I hope you enjoy.
Fun Story: When I was a kid growing up in the 90's, me and my brother used to play this song on the juke box every time we went to Pizza Hut. There was this one dude that worked there with long hair who would headbang to it every single time we played it. If you're still out there Pizza Hut Jesus freak and see this comment by chance, keep on rocking it dude. As for me, I still rock out to this song every time I hear it. Proud Jesus freak here.
Many years ago I was your typical rebellious teenager and some friends invited me to a youth teen church event this band was playing at. I was never religious back then but on that night I got saved and have never looked back. I will always remember that day, thanks to this band that helped me see the light.🙏
WOW!!!! 63yrrs old grandma here. Been searching for tunes about Jesus, but most are not my cup of tea. Haha Then suddenly this cool tune finds its way onto my phone! Love it! Thank you. And I will be sharing this with ppl.
I'm totally a Jesus freak, a prodicle son who is on fire again after being saved in 1990. HE WILL finish the good work HE started in you until the day of Christ Jesus, God ALWAYS keeps HIS promises! I'm a living testimony to that!!!!! Praise Jesus!!!!
My husband just took our 11 year-old daughter to see TM in Hartford. She came home and promptly added this and several other songs to her playlist. Love that he's still reaching people after so many years
Yes! Also one one of their later albums, it wasn't as good as an album as this one was as a whole but one of its songs was beautifully done. If my memory serves me correctly I think it was called Red Letters.
@@skilz8098 I think the Supernatural album is underrated. Songs like Dive, My Friend So Long and Supernatural are all top notch songs. Red Letters as well. Kevin also has a spoken poetry track at the end called Treason at Sea.
In 1995, DC talk came to Cape Town, South Africa for a concert. I was a kid and went along with the youth group. Half way through the set they let us know that they wanted to try something a little different (as in a little different from their hip hop stuff..love is verb etc). They proceeded to unleash this tune. It went off. Pandamoium broke out ( in a Godly way) and we (like David) danced before the Lord with all his might, sans the priestly garments. What a track....
Not to pick nits, but I believe David danced around in his underwear... I'm pretty sure his wife wasn't happy about that either, as she said he was making a fool of himself. 😂
I seen them live at 6 Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ around 1995-96. This album was the biggest hit going on. Then Jars of Clay released their self titled album another good hit and a year or two later Skillet and Newsboys came along. And Petra was also at 6 Flags that day. There was a third group and I'm not sure but it might have been White Heart or something like that. Great times!
Upper room is where Christ had the last supper. Upper room also means your head. So saying nothing much left in the upper room, they're saying he's kind of dumb
This is one of the greatest albums of all time, and I don’t even listen to a lot of Christian music. All their voices are great and unique, and the instrumentation is top notch and extremely catchy. The fact that a “boy band” used real instruments with amazing musicians is a feat in itself. They managed to make a Christian album that spoke to the masses, and you can truly feel the lyrics. They’re not shy about being Christians, and also bring up issues of race and culture
I Have to say back in. The 90s we all thought Dc Talk was the greatest thing ever and we thought they were a sign Christian music was going to get even better . But no , after they left Christian music fell into shambles . They’re not even trying and DC TALK REMAINS UNDEFEATED AS THE BEST CHRISTIAN BAND OF ALL TIME !
well I have disagree. I think Christian music was good all the way 2000. I remember hawk nelson . Elevenseven was petty good and forefront of neon pop punk. DC talk is likely the best post grunge band of all time. what Unique about Christian pop punk band that where innovated and sound truly their own. When I make rock music I can cite influences form Christian pop punk bands. as for dc talk I am not sure what bands cite then as influences.
My favorite group of all time. Toby was always my favorite, love Michael and Kevin’s voice is a true gift from God. It was a big part of the signature of their sound
"Until the king took the head of this Jesus freak" That part gives me chills every time. Jesus said we would suffer for him, but that shouldn't stop us from being a Jesus freak. Love it.
Hard to fathom the how someone who was behind a song like this would years later come out identifying as a socialist and anarchist believing in a "universal Christ".
First time I heard this song I had to replay that verse a few times. Peaked by ear the moment they sung "by the locust he ate", that they are talking about John the Baptist
I'm not even a Christian nor have I ever and have followed them since Nu Thang album and went to concerts and still listen to this day to DC-T and all solo albums etc......my point is talent is talent and there's no denying that!
@@Peaslepuff I'm curious: I myself grew up in a Christian family, (and I still consider myself Christian now that I'm an adult,) which meant that I gained the knowledge to understand biblical references pretty easily. My question would be, do you understand most of the references made? And if so, by what means did you learn about those things? (I pretty much only hear about that type of stuff in Christian environments so I'm curious how it works from your perspective)
@@rubikvoncube3583 I grew up Christian and understand the references made. Probably the same way Christians do? For me it's from church, Christian school, bible studies, and reading the bible at home. Since I became agnostic (around 15) I have taken 2 college classes on the bible because I enjoy learning about it and its history. Existing in such a Christian culture, even if you're atheist you still interact with Christians a lot...just by hanging out with your friends. I think most people in the US have some percentage of Christian friends
@@Peaslepuff HI, I just wanted to share this bible verse with you. Psalm 14:1-2 (KJV) The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. I hope you know how much God loves you!
I remember (a few years back) I was sitting at our dining room table doing a bible study, then, all of a sudden Jesus spoke directly to me saying "I'm your friend". I immediately started crying, and that is one of the reasons I know it was real. . . I am a very emotional person, so whenever the Lord says something sweet like that to me, it brings me to tears. I normally try to hide my emotions from others because I'm "too sensitive" for most people, but not for Jesus, and I am so thankful that I can freely cry out to him, my best friend, at anytime. ❤
I listened to this song when I was a kiddo waiting outside in the car for my mom to hurry up her last few mins of work, and at 37 I still listen to it! Jesus freak all the way!
God is in everything. He is in every blood cell of our being. Lacey has such an amazing way of showing her love for our Father. Uff this song could bring an atheist down to their knees in repentance. God has always been here, now and forever. God loves the most stubborn too. I am a Jesus freak.
Im 22, about to turn 23 in 4 days. I love 90s-2010s rock. Where was this song when I was a kid! Im just now hearing it today from a friend (She's Jewish Messianic, im Christian). I'll be binge-listening to this one for a good while! This song has so much meaning. In seeing a lot of fights, misunderstanding, turning away, etc from non-believers in my life and this song fits so well. Me and my friend are Jesus freaks despite all the resistance and bullying we've tolerated. Still trying to learn everything I can about Jesus/God/The Bible that has helped me learn so much in the past year or two. ✝️✝️✝️
Trying to learn everything about the infinite One that's funny. I'm still getting revelation @ >67yrs young. He give u the things relevant to who u you are & what His intended your purpose for you is
I'm a Jesus Freak and I'm proud because there is nothing in this world that i could lose that will ever amount to what we receive from Christ Jesus our Lord.
Remembering Toby Mac and his family as they mourn the tragic loss of their firstborn son and brother. May the God of all comfort sustain them during this most difficult time.
As a young Believer of 26 years of age I'm always on the search for new Christian Music artist to listen to like Colton Dixon, Danny Gokey and Jamie Grace. Yet, the soul always comes back to what originally ignited the spark that the Holy Spirit breathes into a Flame that makes us burn for God. As a child going into my pre-teen years I heard DC Talk and TobyMac singles on the radio and 'Jesus Freak' is one of the songs that really made me bold, passionate and unashamed for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It's because of the old school music acts like DC Talk, Petra, Steve Green, White Heart, Amy Grant, Hawk Nelson, Newsboys (Peter Fuller), Switchfoot and Third Day that I am the Christian that I am today. God really can capture the heart with his mysterious Grace and music is truly a powerful medium between Heaven and Earth that draws the hungry yearnings of Humanity to the broken Bread and spilled Wine that flows from the cisterns of Jesus on the Cross, satisfying the cravings of the Human heart. Music is a Universal language and God is a cosmic entity whose love is eternally Universal.
Ryan Sinclair if you´re trying to find something new, try Skillet and POD, these two are also Christian bands and man, they really have balls.. very powerful and also quite hard music, with God inside.
Ryan Sinclair - very prolific you are. Thank you for sharing your faith. You are but a bit older than my youngest daughter who also entered the pre-teen years with DC Talk, Newsboys, and the like. And yes, music is a Universal language and God is a cosmic entity whose love is eternally Universal. I do hope you don't mind if I quote your last line on my page. Thank you!
idk bro, harmonically speaking it's pretty out there. Jumps around the key center quite a bit while also coming in context of the song with a batshit crazy tone. It is pretty dog gone impressive... Not complex or hard to play, but wacky and dope as nuts.@@brandonthompson8413
I Just thought Tobymac was a singer I never knew he was the leader of a group untill my dad told me he said You know how you dance to Church clap? well That's what we danced to Jesus freak My dad loved this song I started listening to these type of songs thanks dad☺☺
I was a 90 teen and not a believer. My best friend believed in some things about the Bible but not everything, and her older brother was a strong Christian. He would always blast this song and other Christian alternative songs, especially in the car when he drove us places. My friend and I would smirk and laugh about this song when we got out of the car, but here I am a believer now and very fond of this song.
Serving God doesn't mean you will be free of trouble. You serve God because he knows what is best for you. I serve God because I trust and you should too. I don't want Satan taking you down with him.
Powerranger6342 please explain this whole satan thing because he’s barely even mentioned in the Bible, and definitely not in the way you’re describing in your religion.
jordan secrist what's your deal, why did you even come here? And you're sounding really stupid saying Satan wasn't mentioned in the bible because he went by many names.
1993 was the year. The contemporary christian genre didn't exist. This was played in the mainstream top 40's radio stations. They won several dove awards and in my opinion amongst the best contemporary christian artist. Them and Jars of Clay and The Newsboys.
Back in the late 90s I was in a bad place. I was addicted to marijuana and was selling drugs; my grades were horrible, straight F's. I made a lot of money, but my heart was empty. I just couldn't find "the puzzle piece" that was missing from my heart. A friend who attended the local Christian high school showed me this music video and it was like the blinders came off and I saw the absolute truth! I flushed all the drugs I had on me down the toilet and started attending a local church. My eyes were opened! Literally cannot say how much my life was turned around thanks to Jesus Christ and his grace and acceptance. I started studying and was able to be accepted to the local community college. In a few years I turned my GPA around to a 4.1 and got a full ride scholarship to a private university. I am now a medical doctor and every patient I see, I tell them you can use drugs to "treat" your issues, or you can read The Bible. Every one who reads The Bible is now off all prescriptions and are doing great. The atheists who ignore The Bible get an additional prescription every time they visit me, they keep getting worst. Miracles happen every day! Jesus is saving people! I have literally seen cancer gone with no explanation. Jesus is healing and is real!
As far as production and songwriting goes, this song is so intricately and amazingly designed. I will stand by my bold opinion that this beats out the sound of Green Day. The guitars, the samples, the verse melody and organ. Geesh these guys were talented dudes- amazing they used their genius to make killer Christian music that still devours the rest of the genre.
Greatest Christian Alternative song ever written... The ultra-resonating sound of Kevin Max still slices through till now... the true GOAT of the Era... Ever classic
I love this song! Me and my dad where in the car listening to one of my many Tobymac CDs .... My dad then pulled out a D.C talk CD and said "this is Toby too!" My new favorite
2020: No shame...no regret...no fear of this wicked world through the hope and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ...the Light of the World. Hallelujah He has set me free. Who else?
Why are Christians against abortion? God loves abortion. He's all for crushing babies heads on rocks and killing children with bears....shouldn't you try to be like god?
I'm not a christian anymore. But DC TALK continues to be one of the greatest rock bands of the 90s for me. Great music, great guys. Their lives have changed a lot too.
I'm no christian either anymore cuz jesus and god don't seem to give a shit. Only about themselves. I just came to this video cuz of Kevin's hilarious gestures
@@katharsis3754 That's not true. It may appear like that at times, but they never leave you. It may seem like they don't but they do. One of the biggest reasons for this is because of the Free Will we were given to choose them.
Guys, I can remember “DC Talk” playing on a loop in my babysitters little yellow colored car when I was only a little boy. Who would have known it would’ve stuck with me all these years later? Thanks “Kim”. Best babysitter ever.
Promoted this band in the 90s, and it was the greatest thrill of my life. This song exploded the roof of Hisense arena when they toured in Melbourne. And why wouldn't it? The message is even more profound now than it was then given the state of our world today.
This is my favorite song of all time. It was my first exposure to Christian Hard Rock music. I'd headbang in the car with my dad EVERY TIME it came on, which wasn't often since it was one of those "throwback" songs by then.
Return to the Father who loves you, prodigal child. He loves you with an everlasting love, despite knowing all your sins and problems and doubts. He still loves you, please return beloved of God, He will fix it all and restore you. Jesus Christ loves you.
@@draleks9112 What would you say if I told you I was gay? (And rest assured that I am gay.) That I need to repent, that its a sin? I see no love for queer people from the majority of Christians. Idk how you can profess that your god loves me when most of those who believe in him think that the way I was born is a sin and an abomination. Even if I did believe in the supernatural, which I don't, I would never choose to follow a religion that teaches its followers to hate me. I don't care that you might think that gay people should be accepted into the church, if you can't come out and say that it is not a sin then I do not like you and I do not like your religion.
@@SherbertHusky dearly beloved child. You are not hated by God, you are loved with an everlasting love, as a Father of Grace, Peace and Love yes. We all fall short of the glory of God as it says in Romans 3:23. All have a sin nature, because we are conceived in iniquity and born in sin. All sin separates us from God, a white lie is enough to seperate us eternally from our Father in heaven. God formed us in our mothers wombs, each of us is intricately, fearfully and wonderfully made. God loves us with an everlasting, infinite love from our Creator, our Maker, our Heavenly Father. He made us in His image, formed us and brought us into the world because you are unique and uniquely and perfectly loved and DESIRED by Gid. He made you to have communion and to be with Him, but sin seperates us. Yes Homosexuality is a sin, it goes against God's will for marriage. One man, one woman. This was made for our benefit and is a covenant marriage, a covenantial love between two people, who were once two become One. It was made as gift for us, man and woman becoming one flesh. But it also mirrors God's love for our souls and that's why it is so important to God, because compares us who believe and all humanity to a bride, awaiting the Bridegroom. Adultery is breaking that covenant between two people. God made a covenant with mankind, to save us from our sins by having and putting our faith in Him to save us. He is the Husband of our Souls, Jesus Christ the Bridegroom to whom we have been promised, first prophecy is in Genesis 3:14. Which actually mirrors Christ perfectly, (Seed of the Woman = Virgin Birth) (Seed of the snake = sin) (Enmity = between Holiness and Sin) (You shall bruise His heel = a light wound, Jesus Christ takes on the venom of the snake, which kills all other men, but Because He was holy and sinless and fully God and Man, He rose again and defeated death) (He shall crush your head = a mortal wound, aka Death had no sting, hell hath no fury. It is finished) (Notable mention, Jesus was crucified upon the Hill of the Skull) Jesus Christ was given to us through His (the Father's) love and desire to show us mercy and grace through His promised, only begotten Son, who came as a sacrificial Lamb of God, fufilling the sacrificial law of Moses, the way He lived fufilling the righteous law of Godly living and also fufilling all the prophecies aboit Him in the Old testament, prophets and psalms. He died for you, to save you and bring you back, to reconcile you to the Father through grace alone, by faith alone in Christ Jesus alone. No sin is too great, we all are hopeless, we cannot work for our Salvation, because it is a gift. He is the Promised Messiah to redeem you, seal you and set you free from Sin. So, come boldly to the Throne of Grace and receive the reconciliation of His Grace, ask Jesus into your life and He will bring into His hands and hold you, heal you, restore you and make you new, to give you His Holy Spirit and He will. Repent admit your sins and HE will change you and bring you into repentance. He's loved you from before time and creation was made and has SEEN you as you are and despite all your sins, rebellion and bitterness, He loved you so much He still died for you on the cross and paid the price for your redemption and took upon Himself the curses and wrath of God. Be reconciled.
No one is too far gone, I was lost in witchcraft, sorcery and sexual sins far worse then being gay, all of it my friend. Yet God never gave up on me, I gave up and renounced Him, abandoned and blasphemed Him to His face and turned to satanism and pagan practices and yet.. God still saved me and fixed me.. took away all my sexual immorality and fixed me. He can fo it for you too, He will do it and help you and give you new desires and a new heart after His own heart, He does and did the work already. Merely repent, turn to God and in Faith call on Jesus Christ name, the Name of the Lord and you shall be saved. Put your trust in Him and you will never be ashamed. He loves you DESPITE your sins, despite my own. None of us can or are or ever will be perfect until we are in heaven with God in our new bodies. We all sin and stumble in many ways, yet God still loves us. It's unconditional, except by faith and allowing God to change you and work through His love, grace and mercy and redeeming power of Christ's sacrifice working in you. Jesus wants you, and will take you as you are. Look up Pslam 139, read Isaiah 53 and then compare it to how Christ was slain hundreds of years later. Read the gospel of John and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the love, the grace and glory of Christ and God to you. Read Luke chapter 15.. especially 10-32. You are supposed to come to Him with the faith of a child, and ask Him, our Father to save us, ask Jesus our Christ, our Savior, our Friend, Brother, Lover of our Souls to save you and He will. Look into it brother, He will redeem you. All the love we experience here is merely a dim shadow and mirror of God's love, and are gifts to show us a parable of His love. He loves us as a Father and our Brother, our Lord and King. Our Judge and Advocate/Mediator(Lawyer). Our High Priest and Friend. Our Prince of Peace and Husband. Our Master and Teacher, our Mentor and Provider. Our Creator and Prophet.
“You see the Pharisees tripped when they heard him speak, until the king took the head of this Jesus Freak.” Is he referring to John The Baptist? Because he was beheaded.

I love it when I see people telling the world that they're apart of the Jesus Freaks! This made my night. I just hope that most of you don't lose sight of your God - Many people that I've come across has lost sight and they've wandered off the path that God had made for them. I only pray that we Jesus Freaks will stay strong in our faith! We will not be broken! Our best friend was born in a manger! :) Thank you God for touching our hearts and bringing us to you. Without you, we have no meaning. You've given us life and hope. This is our test ground, our temporary home. We will serve you on this earth until the day that we die.

I wish I was old enough to be there
Are you a real person?
Not to pick nits, but I believe David danced around in his underwear... I'm pretty sure his wife wasn't happy about that either, as she said he was making a fool of himself. 😂
I seen them live at 6 Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ around 1995-96. This album was the biggest hit going on. Then Jars of Clay released their self titled album another good hit and a year or two later Skillet and Newsboys came along. And Petra was also at 6 Flags that day. There was a third group and I'm not sure but it might have been White Heart or something like that. Great times!
That's so cool I'm from Cape Town. I live in CA now. Great Song. My son got saved recently. He's never heard this

I love this song too! God bless you I hope your doing well!!
This song goes Hard. Praise the Almighty Jesus Christ Lord of Lords

Lived through the entire 90s and never heard of this band, than again all Christian music sucks. Christians suck too.
well I have disagree.

He should have also mentioned that his followers would inflict far more suffering.
My favorite line is " Kamikaze My Death Is Gain. I've Been Marked By Maker In Peculiar Displays."

@@azula2399 A bit late here, but Toby Mac is usually the one who raps in DC Talk songs. :)

Which actually mirrors Christ perfectly, (Seed of the Woman = Virgin Birth)
(Seed of the snake = sin)
(Enmity = between Holiness and Sin)
(You shall bruise His heel = a light wound, Jesus Christ takes on the venom of the snake, which kills all other men, but Because He was holy and sinless and fully God and Man, He rose again and defeated death)
(He shall crush your head = a mortal wound, aka Death had no sting, hell hath no fury. It is finished)
(Notable mention, Jesus was crucified upon the Hill of the Skull)
Jesus Christ was given to us through His (the Father's) love and desire to show us mercy and grace through His promised, only begotten Son, who came as a sacrificial Lamb of God, fufilling the sacrificial law of Moses, the way He lived fufilling the righteous law of Godly living and also fufilling all the prophecies aboit Him in the Old testament, prophets and psalms.

I am not afraid to post this - I don't care if it's hated on. I'm proud of what I believe in, I'm proud to say that I AM A JESUS FREAK! No one is taking that away from me. I've struggled tonight, I've had someone tell me that what I believe in isn't real, that I'm crazy and I'm believing in something that's not there. All I can say -- I'm praying for you. I don't care what people say about this. Jesus is my best friend.

+Sarah Hush Of course. :)
wolfie498 I don't care what you say. My faith won't be shaken. Don't reply if it's just going to be negative. Thanks. ^_^

America needs a revival so badly. Thats where the term Jesus freak came from, a revival in the 70's.
Heard this song for the 1st time today. Awesome tune!!
This is undoubtedly the best Christian Rock Band ever. Classic and continuously changing their style to get to the next level
My brown uncle Tait shook my hand a few years back at a newsboys concert, what a real dude. Thank you for your music guys! Only cared about me at the moment, not a single second focused on himself. That is one sign of a real Christian man.
Don’t be afraid of being a Jesus freak. this world will end but if your a Christian you will live forever with Christ. Hold fast even thought trials may come, pain is temporary but God is forever.
Amen
But if I live with your god, who will live with my god?
@@odetomykitten You’re saying it’s the same God...
@@BaconFaceMcGee No I'm not a Christian
