My favorite group of all time. Toby was always my favorite, love Michael and Kevin’s voice is a true gift from God. It was a big part of the signature of their sound
idk bro, harmonically speaking it's pretty out there. Jumps around the key center quite a bit while also coming in context of the song with a batshit crazy tone. It is pretty dog gone impressive... Not complex or hard to play, but wacky and dope as nuts.@@brandonthompson8413
Promoted this band in the 90s, and it was the greatest thrill of my life. This song exploded the roof of Hisense arena when they toured in Melbourne. And why wouldn't it? The message is even more profound now than it was then given the state of our world today.
This is one of the greatest albums of all time, and I don’t even listen to a lot of Christian music. All their voices are great and unique, and the instrumentation is top notch and extremely catchy. The fact that a “boy band” used real instruments with amazing musicians is a feat in itself. They managed to make a Christian album that spoke to the masses, and you can truly feel the lyrics. They’re not shy about being Christians, and also bring up issues of race and culture
Serving God doesn't mean you will be free of trouble. You serve God because he knows what is best for you. I serve God because I trust and you should too. I don't want Satan taking you down with him.
Powerranger6342 please explain this whole satan thing because he’s barely even mentioned in the Bible, and definitely not in the way you’re describing in your religion.
jordan secrist what's your deal, why did you even come here? And you're sounding really stupid saying Satan wasn't mentioned in the bible because he went by many names.
Im 22, about to turn 23 in 4 days. I love 90s-2010s rock. Where was this song when I was a kid! Im just now hearing it today from a friend (She's Jewish Messianic, im Christian). I'll be binge-listening to this one for a good while! This song has so much meaning. In seeing a lot of fights, misunderstanding, turning away, etc from non-believers in my life and this song fits so well. Me and my friend are Jesus freaks despite all the resistance and bullying we've tolerated. Still trying to learn everything I can about Jesus/God/The Bible that has helped me learn so much in the past year or two. ✝️✝️✝️

@@Peaslepuff I'm curious: I myself grew up in a Christian family, (and I still consider myself Christian now that I'm an adult,) which meant that I gained the knowledge to understand biblical references pretty easily. My question would be, do you understand most of the references made? And if so, by what means did you learn about those things? (I pretty much only hear about that type of stuff in Christian environments so I'm curious how it works from your perspective)
@@rubikvoncube3583 I grew up Christian and understand the references made. Probably the same way Christians do? For me it's from church, Christian school, bible studies, and reading the bible at home. Since I became agnostic (around 15) I have taken 2 college classes on the bible because I enjoy learning about it and its history. Existing in such a Christian culture, even if you're atheist you still interact with Christians a lot...just by hanging out with your friends. I think most people in the US have some percentage of Christian friends
@@Peaslepuff HI, I just wanted to share this bible verse with you. Psalm 14:1-2 (KJV) The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. I hope you know how much God loves you!
I listened to this song when I was a kiddo waiting outside in the car for my mom to hurry up her last few mins of work, and at 37 I still listen to it! Jesus freak all the way!
As a young Believer of 26 years of age I'm always on the search for new Christian Music artist to listen to like Colton Dixon, Danny Gokey and Jamie Grace. Yet, the soul always comes back to what originally ignited the spark that the Holy Spirit breathes into a Flame that makes us burn for God. As a child going into my pre-teen years I heard DC Talk and TobyMac singles on the radio and 'Jesus Freak' is one of the songs that really made me bold, passionate and unashamed for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It's because of the old school music acts like DC Talk, Petra, Steve Green, White Heart, Amy Grant, Hawk Nelson, Newsboys (Peter Fuller), Switchfoot and Third Day that I am the Christian that I am today. God really can capture the heart with his mysterious Grace and music is truly a powerful medium between Heaven and Earth that draws the hungry yearnings of Humanity to the broken Bread and spilled Wine that flows from the cisterns of Jesus on the Cross, satisfying the cravings of the Human heart. Music is a Universal language and God is a cosmic entity whose love is eternally Universal.
Ryan Sinclair if you´re trying to find something new, try Skillet and POD, these two are also Christian bands and man, they really have balls.. very powerful and also quite hard music, with God inside.
Ryan Sinclair - very prolific you are. Thank you for sharing your faith. You are but a bit older than my youngest daughter who also entered the pre-teen years with DC Talk, Newsboys, and the like. And yes, music is a Universal language and God is a cosmic entity whose love is eternally Universal. I do hope you don't mind if I quote your last line on my page. Thank you!
Jesus is the light in a dark world! Jesus is my Friend no matter what people think or say about me because Jesus Christ is the way , the truth, and the life. John 14:6
Told the family the truth about my call to serve Him. When they heard how, they rejected me- like those who rejected Him on golgotha. Pray for me and my mission all you generous children of the light as i will pray for you!
God is in everything. He is in every blood cell of our being. Lacey has such an amazing way of showing her love for our Father. Uff this song could bring an atheist down to their knees in repentance. God has always been here, now and forever. God loves the most stubborn too. I am a Jesus freak.
I'm a Jesus Freak and I'm proud because there is nothing in this world that i could lose that will ever amount to what we receive from Christ Jesus our Lord.
"Until the king took the head of this Jesus freak" That part gives me chills every time. Jesus said we would suffer for him, but that shouldn't stop us from being a Jesus freak. Love it.
Hard to fathom the how someone who was behind a song like this would years later come out identifying as a socialist and anarchist believing in a "universal Christ".
First time I heard this song I had to replay that verse a few times. Peaked by ear the moment they sung "by the locust he ate", that they are talking about John the Baptist
@@joshd.godfroy4761 oh man, Carman! I loveddddd him too. It was a revolving music fest between Newsboys, DC Talk and Carman when it came to Christian music.
I remember (a few years back) I was sitting at our dining room table doing a bible study, then, all of a sudden Jesus spoke directly to me saying "I'm your friend". I immediately started crying, and that is one of the reasons I know it was real. . . I am a very emotional person, so whenever the Lord says something sweet like that to me, it brings me to tears. I normally try to hide my emotions from others because I'm "too sensitive" for most people, but not for Jesus, and I am so thankful that I can freely cry out to him, my best friend, at anytime. ❤
@@nunyabizz8516 If it did, that shows how simple minded the religion is. No evidence, no good rationale...just people saying others should repent and they go "durr okay" lol. It just shows how susceptible people are to anything. It's why people like the Food Babe exists...just say surface-level statements and you'll have somebody somewhere buy into it.
+wolfie498 We live on the same earth, with the same fossils, the same plants and animals, in the same universe, and with all the same EVIDENCE as you do. We have the same facts. You and I just interpret them differently because of presuppositions and bias. Someone with a biblical view looks at a person and sees a unique person that was created by God, while a secular humanist looks at a person and sees a randomly formed pointless creature. If you were looking for an example of EVIDENCE there is no body. Jesus rose from the grave and defeated death. There literally is no body found anywhere.
“You see the Pharisees tripped when they heard him speak, until the king took the head of this Jesus Freak.” Is he referring to John The Baptist? Because he was beheaded.
This is the most blasphemous and wicked thing I’ve ever seen. If You’re into this please I encourage you to repent and pray and ask the father to forgive you and bring you out of deception

@@zedasilva3 The Upper Room, in the New Testament, is where Christ and his disciples held the Last Supper.
Upper room is where Christ had the last supper. Upper room also means your head. So saying nothing much left in the upper room, they're saying he's kind of dumb
How did I never get this until now 🤯
This tune is HEAVY.
most ppl don't know about it they just know the newsboys band

This millennial approves, it was a personal favorite of mine as a kid. It's a timeless banger!
Ready for what?
My favorite group of all time. Toby was always my favorite, love Michael and Kevin’s voice is a true gift from God. It was a big part of the signature of their sound
I agree. Toby is amazing but without Michael or Kevin, he's just Tobymac. Haha. They were truly a talented, musical trio
That's got to be one of the sickest guitar solos of the 90's! Goosebumps all over!
I'm guessing you haven't heard many guitar solo's from the 90's. This doesn't even crack the top 200 probably top 500..
idk bro, harmonically speaking it's pretty out there. Jumps around the key center quite a bit while also coming in context of the song with a batshit crazy tone. It is pretty dog gone impressive... Not complex or hard to play, but wacky and dope as nuts.@@brandonthompson8413

I'm confused. There isn't a guitar solo in this song. Do you mean the bridge where they play the dissonant chords?

My Bible has the words 'Jesus Freak' engraved on it. This song had an impact.
God I loved this era. So raw
Serving God doesn't mean you will be free of trouble. You serve God because he knows what is best for you. I serve God because I trust and you should too. I don't want Satan taking you down with him.
Powerranger6342 right on brother he knows what is best for you and will often use tribulations to bring you closer to him
Powerranger6342 You have to take up a cross and follow. It certainly is not a popularity contest. Im heavely persecuted.
Jim Chumley I bet it makes you feel really good about yourself to think you’re so persecuted.

Yeah I'm an atheist now, but this still slaps and the writing is excellent

Ryan Sinclair i'm 15 and a Christian
Ryan Sinclair if you´re trying to find something new, try Skillet and POD, these two are also Christian bands and man, they really have balls.. very powerful and also quite hard music, with God inside.
Ryan Sinclair - very prolific you are. Thank you for sharing your faith. You are but a bit older than my youngest daughter who also entered the pre-teen years with DC Talk, Newsboys, and the like. And yes, music is a Universal language and God is a cosmic entity whose love is eternally Universal. I do hope you don't mind if I quote your last line on my page. Thank you!
I'm a year younger and I always fall back on dc talk and Toby Mac too :) good stuff!

Hannah Brown are you Hannah Brown on The Bachelorrette?
Michael Pritchett 😂😂 I’m sorry to say that I have never been on the bachelorette
What do we receive from jesus?
"Until the king took the head of this Jesus freak" That part gives me chills every time. Jesus said we would suffer for him, but that shouldn't stop us from being a Jesus freak. Love it.
Hard to fathom the how someone who was behind a song like this would years later come out identifying as a socialist and anarchist believing in a "universal Christ".
First time I heard this song I had to replay that verse a few times. Peaked by ear the moment they sung "by the locust he ate", that they are talking about John the Baptist
He should have also mentioned that his followers would inflict far more suffering.
My favorite line is " Kamikaze My Death Is Gain. I've Been Marked By Maker In Peculiar Displays."
The reason people like this song so much is that it is about facing persecution and keeping your faith through it

You ever think about how this was literally the peak of Christian music? Or is it just me?
95 was an amazing year for music all around. Alternative, RnB, pop, they were all killing it
Personally I think when John Mark McMillan came around Christian music was revived it’s just that no one knows about him.
Christian screamo was popular in the late 2000s and early 2010s such as For Today, Underøath, and The Devil Wears Prada
Yeah, but how bout Carman? He had some rock too. I'm a be 33 this month! Music like this feeds my soul with Jesus! And refills me each day!

wolfie498 You need Jesus
You need to grow up child. In fact at least a child has EVIDENCE for the tooth fairy. You've got nothing for your stupid fairy tale.
+Cunfuzled Pikachu Llamma That was a very long winded way to prove my point.
