  • The story of how academia can destroy even a scholar's faith in Islam.
Yasir Qadhi has doubts in Islam regarding the preservation of the Quran and regarding evolution.

    ► My blog: friendlyexmusli...
Yasir Qadhi always struck me as a rational individual, a person of academic integrity. I always suspected that he may end up agnostic one day.
He has come out and said his faith has taken a major blow. That he has come close to a crisis of faith. This is an important development because it shows that even the most strong believers, ones who studied the religion in depth, are not immune to the problems in Islam.
The narrative of Islam we have been taught is false, and it falls apart under scrutiny.
    Yasir Qadhi says:
"I am personally aware of around a dozen muslims in academia who had major crises of faith (and perhaps one who has left the faith) because of this issue, and i have also confessed on this list that my own personal crisis of knowledge (I wouldnt really call it a faith crisis, although perhaps it came close) was when I entered into this realm, during my first year at Yale, and felt my world come crashing down in front of me. I didn't know what to believe about the hifdh [preservation] of the Quran anymore, because there was no alternative.
You either had non-Muslim views, or these simplistic, standardized triumphalistic claims that a rational mind simply cannot acknowledge as true."
He also says ": the 'preservation' of the Quran cannot, then, be a 'letter for letter, tashkil for tashkil' narrative that later scholars verbalized and the Muslim Ummah is taught"

@@emperor7580 let me teach you something. In Islam there are 73 sects which there shouldn't be. But prophet mohammed pbuh told us this. He said all will in hell except one. Who are they? They are the ones who follow Qur'an and hadith. Entirely. They don't add, subtract, or change any thing of the faith that was revealed. So the people who say they have left Islam were never Muslim in the first place. Go and do your research on this my man. They just had to admit they were never Muslim in the first place that's all. 😁😁😁😁

A successful recipe to make a believer stay with their faith:
    1. Tell them that their cult / religion is the truth.

he is e a liar, because in the same email it says "He is not saying the 'recitation' is not preserved, but he is saying that some elements of the recitation have some human influences." and he said that Qadi doubts the preservation!!
and also said " despite the fact that he repeatedly stated that he was only posing certain questions and the fact that he refrained from making any claims about the preservation of the Quran." so he does not doubt the preservation but rather some elements in recitation

Is evolution a fact? The concept of absolute time and space existed from 5th July 1687 until 1887. It was overturned by Einsteins Special Relativity in 1905, General Relativity in 1915. For 200 years it was taught as "fact" when it wasn't. Now I believe in microevolution and there is evidence for that. Darwin's Finches on the Galapagos islands change beak shape from generation to generation. But so far, NO ONE has observed macroevolution where one species evolves into a completely different species.
Frequently scientists discover laws and that is a good thing. But they indulge in un-scientific behaviour to hang onto their results. A true scientist would be dispassionate about laws discovered and would only consider evidence based results. I repeat, NO ONE has observed once species evolving into another and we dont have skeletons of the intermediate results.

    • @lavir74
      @lavir74 6 лет назад +1

The theory of evolution is a fact only concerning the natural selection processes underlying it (that were discovered, btw, much earlier than Darwin), the conclusions deriving from them, however, are far from being factual (albeit they usually get lumped together, as if they were the same). I sincerely believe that 90% of average atheists that continue with this facade of "evolution is a fact" never even for once researched actual papers of evolutionists and just read books from Dawkins and the like that selectively chose which information to tell them, discarding everything they would not like to hear. You don't need to search far to discover the huge (incredibly huge) problems the theory of evolution carries, you just need to look at the cell and DNA/RNA. The structure of the latter, especially, is totally unexplainable through processes of natural selection. Until our knowledge of the cell was primordial it was pretty simple to believe that an albuminous combination of carbon could form easily out of random mutations from simple aminoacids, the thing completely changes when the cell becomes as a sophisticated city containing within itself millions of strands of information the origin of whom is impossible to decipher throughout natural processes.
And don't let me even start on abiogenesis or cosmogony models because there things are even worse (and that says it all).
However I'm happy that Qadhi has finally started having doubts on Islam. I wonder why it took him so long given how Muhammad is the clearest false prophet in all of the history of religion. Neither scientology has such a messed up doctrine as Islam.

This is something that I have always pondered. Can it be that a rational, intelligent, qualified person such as Yasir Qadhi (who by the way I have met) does not have even an inkling of a doubt? Can it be that you dedicate a large portion of your life, especially, in the West and have the freedom of thought, expression and speech. But yet there are no cracks in the seams?
This is impossible I say. Of course he has doubts, of course there are things where he simply does not know and has to concede defeat.
I attended the event shown about evolution and Islam at which he was speaker. And he could only barely deny evolution (and even then it was only for humans). He said during the Q&A and I paraphrase "I cannot speak for the science or biology of evolution", but he could and did speak for the Islam and what the limits are; which were that you can believe in evolution just not for homo sapiens. Even at the time I thought this was troublesome and all the other speakers outshone the apologist speakers and even a large majority of the educated crowd thought so with their intelligent questions of evolutionary mechanisms. There was a religious woman donning a hijab who was crying after the event because she did not know what to think.
So if we can doubt our faith, be disturbed by it and bring us theological trouble. Is it possible for someone that studies Islam for a living to be troubled by aspects of there religion? If not doubt the whole premise of it? For Yasir Qadhi (and I do not represent nor speak for him) I would say resoundingly; yes.

Surely he knows that the Arab conquests did not happen the way the Islamic tradition would have it. There are no debates about this in academia anymore. We know how the conquests took place. Muslims have to accept this.

The words of Allah were never preserved. The Quran as a book was composed under the ruling of Uthman and according to hadiths, and scholars, the Quran is missing chapters and verses, and verses were added to the Quran. Also, just the fact that the Quran was compiled years after the death of Muhammad and that many words were missing and forgotten and verses were added should be enough evidence to convey that Islam is a man made religion.

One thing will never change. Islamic apologists will always read arguments and then make statements with no evidence as they believe it shows them to be strong. ‘God is one’. How can a human being possibly know god even if god existed. Even if the Quran was true, even if Mohammed was a prophet - who are you to declare you know with certainty what god is or is not? How arrogant. Even if there was a god you would know nothing of him / her / it. Merely stating your belief in any one religion is just you patting yourself on the back for how important you think you are. You worship the religion of your friends and family - you memorised the Quran. Excellent - now come back when you’ve memorised another few hundred religious texts from other faiths going back over the centuries and I’ll be slightly impressed. I do not believe there is a god because instead of evidence apologists make infantile statements like ‘god is one and we are all here for a reason’ or try to impress because they read one short book, with precisely nothing than their opinion to back it up. Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus - it’s all self-worship. Your statements about how quickly you memorised it only serves to show how you view yourself. ‘Allah gives guidance to those whose sole purpose is to find the truth. My friend - you are. It interested in truth. You are interested in belonging, in showing off, and in ensuring that you ask as few questions as you can in your one and only life.

Is the Quran A Plagiarised book?
Why are you reading a plagiarised book? The quran is 70% copied stories that existed before Islam!
      For example:
The story of Abraham being thrown into the fire & Solomon talking to ants come from the jewish Talmud !
The Talmud was written after Jesus time! And was never accepted as the word of God neither by Jews or Christians! It is simply commentaries by jewish priests with jewish myth!
Muhammad heard jews talk about these stories & put them into his quran without knowing that it came from a fake source !
The story of Jesus talking as a baby & making clay birds alive & St. Mary being under a palm tree all come from the Fake gnostic gospels!
These gospels were written from 150 AD to around 500 AD!
Way too late to be authentic!
And the Christian church never really accepted them because they were obviously fake! Even people at the time did not consider them real!
Muhammad heard them from the heretical Christians around him & put them into his quran without knowing that they come from a fake source !
The story of the men in the cave, is a Christian myth story written about 300 years before Islam! It never happened! It's just myth!
The story of Zul Al Qarnien was a popular legend that was known from before Islam!
Most muslim scholars say it's Alexander the Great. And the quran says that he was a good man & a good muslim!
But history shows that he was a wicked pagan man, a polytheist, & a drink! And we never found the people who live next to the muddy spring that the sun sets in! Nor did we ever find that iron gate or mountain!
      Just pure myth!
There are other stories that also have their origins in things that existed before Islam!
The quran is not pure Arabic as it falsely claims!
It has MANY Syriac & Aramaic words, a greek word and at least one Coptic word!
The people around Muhammad were correct in accusing him of copying "tales of the ancients"!!
Because that's exactly what he was doing!
All these fake stories got mixed up with corrupted stories from the Bible with some of Muhamad life & made into fancy Arabian poetry!
And that's how he brainwashed 7th century Arabian pagans and that's how he brainwashed the entire islamic nation up to today!!
1- Muhammad lived with Jews & Christians & pagans & others long before becoming a prophet! Surely he must have talked, done business & argued about religion & other things!
      That's what people do!
That's how he would have been exposed to these stories!!
(Perhaps this "waraka ebn nofel" told Muhammad some of these stories)!!
2- When he becomes a prophet, he tells them these stories! They tell him we already know them! & we reject you as a prophet!
And accuse him of telling tales of the ancients!
3- In modern times, we discovered many manuscripts that have all of these quranic stories in their original form!! And they date from way before islam !
      MUHAMMADAN PLAGIARISM EXPOSED.
Here is where some of those supposed Allah's revelations as found in Qur'an came from:
Many of the stories in the Qur'an come from the Jewish Talmud, the Midrash, and many apocryphal works. This was pointed out by Abraham Geiger in 1833, and further documented by another Jewish scholar, Dr. Abraham Katsh, of New York University, in 1954 (The Concise Dictionary of Islam, p. 229; Jomier, The Bible and the Quran -- Henry Regency Co., Chicago, 1959, 59ff; Sell, Studies, pp. 163ff.; Guillaume, Islam, p. 13).
      1. The source of Sura 3:35-37 is the fanciful book called The Protevangelion's James the Lesser.
      2. The source of Sura 87:19 is the Testament of Abraham.
      3. The source of Sura 27:17-44 is the Second Targum of Esther.
      4. The fantastic tale that G-d made a man "die for a hundred years" with no ill effects on his food, drink, or donkey was a Jewish fable (Sura 2:259ff.).
      5. The idea that Moses was resurrected and other material came from the Jewish Talmud (Sura 2:55, 56, 67).

I would claim that the scripture of Islam also is a big enemy of Islam.
One example, there such a large number of things where the hadiths and the quran contradicts each other, that both can't be considered as canonical at the same time.
And it that case the hadiths must be the one that loses the status as canonical, which will have so huge impact on Islam as we know it today that the mind spins when you think about it.
So the issue remains unaddressed by scholars of islam and it's left to grind away one Muslim at a time from faith.

sincere question (if u want to respond plz read sincerely i don't want the repetitive/mockery or dismissive narratives)
According to islam, we are here for the test but in the quran everything is already writen ever since our souls were created and blown into as fetus
Allah already chosen where each souls ends up(heaven or hell) and the ONLY reason we are on earth is to see that god is right when he chooses us to be hell or heaven so do we really have free will? if we do how much free will do we have or are accountable for? because
without Allah permission, we can't be guided
without Allah permission we can't understand certain concepts especially when Allah guarantees every human will sin and we were created with hast...
If the answer is because Allah can do whatever he want than is God actually merciful? especially because
Allah doesn't need us to worship him but we punished for not worship him?

Also Yasir Qadhi totally denied this and said he is firmly a Muslims and he is doing dawah talks and Jumma sermons weekly all uploaded to you tune. Shaitan is there to put doubt in the minds of everyone. It’s Shaitans classic trick. Doubts are from Shaitan and never take anyone out of Islam.
Also your claim that those who leave islam are killed is totally false. Many many scholars as you know say that if a person leaves Islam it’s their own issue and no one does anything or cares. You like to give yourself importance with the whole exmuslim thing but does anyone really care?
Evolution occurs because Allah allows it to. That does not mean your grandfathers were baboons!

This is essentially the problem between ibn Rushd and al Ghazali. And is partly why I think al Ghazali wrote The Incoherence of Philosophers, in order to try and quash the exploration of the corpus using rational/empirical (in the Aristotelian sense) means.
Sometimes, I imagine that some of the great scientific thinkers of the Islamic Age were crypto-religionists, paying lip service to the faith in order to survive and still be able to practice their science.

People may tell you that your belief is weak if you keep crying. Your parents may tell you if you prayed more, you would't be depressed. The imam at the masjid may say if you read Quarn more, you'd be a better believer and would't be sad and have these problem but then you pray, and your're still unable to cry.And then you read Quarn, and your depression is crippling. And you make dua-sincere,overwhelmingly emotional, present dua-and yet you don't feel better and you feel like nothing has changed and so you yourself wonder: is god angry with me? is Allah not answering my duas because i am not good enough? Am I going through all of this because Allah is punishing me? What have i done wrong? why me? Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prayed with the most intense concentration and with the strongest relationship with god possible, yet still missed khadija 10 years after his death.he didn't ''get over her'' He moved forward with life, but missed her instensely. And it's okay that it hurts. He (PBUH) cried at his mother grave decades after her passing.it didn't diminish the strength of his belief. He wept as he held his dying son, and it didn,t decrease his trust in god's wisdom. When you have thses thoughts remember : Prophet jacob (PBUH) cried so much at the loss of his son jacob. He wasn't sad for a day.Or a month.Or a year. His tears flowed so intensely that his eyesight was depleted. And despite his tears, despite his human sadness,he was the amongst the best believers god placed on earth. His tears did not mean his belief in god was weak or his trust in him wavered And know that despite the negative ways other believers may make you feel,Allah is the one to whom you can vulnerable.Where we can shatter.Where we can show every insecurity and know that we are still worth because He loves us no matter what.So when people say ''Hasn't it been long enough? let them know:For the prophet sometimes it was longer. The prophet have shown us that even when others don't understand, even with worship the struggles of life are incredibly immense. With Allah you always have safe place

I have now listened to Yasir Qadhi's description of his "doubts". What a disappointment!
Whatever Islamic education he had before going to Yale, it was clearly inadequate.
Apparently they had not trained him in any sort of critical thinking, (such as the logic and philosophy textbooks that used to be a part of Islamic education); they had only taught him to follow orders and to repeat what he had been told. He did not have te confidence to investigate anything for himself, but was content to see what choices others had left for him.
Western scholars of Islam say some of the silliest things imaginable -- it is frankly, idiotic to doubt that Islam originated in Mecca, yet that is a doubt these Orientalists keep peddling -- but Dr. Qadhi apparently had no idea how to deal with such matters. He had neither the training, nor the mentality, nor the zeal for independent investigation to deal with some very stupid ideas from the Orientalists
Dr, Qadhi's response to his doubts was very disappointing. In his place, Imam Ghazali, may Allah be pleased with him, would have said "I want knowledge of the reality of things; hence, I must first seek to grasp what knowledge is." You can read about Imam Ghazali's journey from that point on in "Deliverance from Error". www.aub.edu.lb/fas/cvsp/Documents/Al-ghazaliMcCarthytr.pdf
Instead of undertaking his own journey to certainty, as Imam Ghazali did, Dr. Qadhi has made himself -- along with other Muslims -- a target for attacks from mediocre frauds like Abdullah Sameer, who nobody can even prove was ever a Muslim to begin with. He just assures us he was -- in his effeminate-sounding high-pitched voice -- yet nobody can testify to seeing him in a mosque on a Friday. I'm not even convinced that woman who appears with him was ever his wife -- she always manages to smirk on camera as if she was having fun with some secret.

but brother Sameer this is what I found in another video explaining what he really meant-
"A response to an over simplistic misrepresentation that Yasir Qadhi has 'doubts with regards to Islam being the truth.' Why was not the video of the statement that Yasir Qadhi has 'doubts' cut and pasted from this lecture? In this lecture he explains these 'doubts' in a comprehensive and intelligent way.
Additionally, if one examines other lectures that Yasir Qadhi has given, one will find that each of the other 'reasons why Yasir Qadhi is wrong' are also thoroughly and intelligently explained. "

Obviously Yasir Qadhi is still a believer. He has put his doubts aside. The point of his video is not that he has left Islam, just that studying the evidence has put holes into his faith

How to believe/trust?. How to believe what books/people say or write? Firstly, we have to find which religion is truth/true/right. How? We must have same definition or meaning of the truth/true/right. We must use same method to determine the truth/true/right. Believe => claim = test/check = see. This is normally practice by everybody when we buy/accept something/good which is expensive from other people(we see or we do not see).
Example: We buy a black pen in the shop was produced/manufactured by Marker(do not see) cost around 10K USD. Producer/Manufacturer(do not see) claim, It is a black pen. The salesperson(can see) also claim, it is a black pen. Outside (can see), the apparent is black in colour. Inside(ink, can not see), we not sure, it is black or blue or other colour. So, we have to test/check it. Take white paper and write to it to confirm it. It is black. When I see, it is black. It is true/right. I believe/trust it. So, I buy/accept it without any doubt. If you do not want to test/check, it is up to you. It is your money. It is your life. Our life is only one chance given by god(can not see). When we die, we see the truth, we can not go back in this world(can see). It is too late. I obey what Allah say in Al Quran surah Al asr (The Time) 103(30): recommend one another to the truth. If everybody can see god and his power, there is only one religion. No free will. Have to ask permission, when to do something. Everybody fear to god. Everybody have to obey the command/law/rule from that god only. No arrogant people/man. Man become humble. like plant, bee, animal, moon, sun, stars. For sure this world is peacefully.
Our faith is very expensive. Please open Al Quran Surah Al Hujurat 49: 6. O who believe! If a Fasiq (liar-evil person) comes to you with and news, verify it, lest you should harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful for what you have done. Please open Bible John 4:1. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test to see whether they are from God, for false prophets have gone out into the world. We test and verify the claim/message words of god from Bible (can see), Torah (can see), Al Quran(can see), and other religion books(can see). We must get/see same result(claim=test/check=see) or not. God(can not see) create man(can see). Man worship god. Question: How is god create man? What Method? God create man from ground dust(Torah,Bible, Quran) or man rib(Torah, Bible,Quran) or woman only(Bible,Quran) or Nutfah(mix drop of male (sperm) and female sexual(female egg cell/ova) discharge)-Quran, 1440 years ago, they did not see it, but now, we can see it by using electron microscopy. Or other religion books or other book?. We do testing/experimenting/checking to verify it, by using these method to create man. Everybody can test/experiment/check, verify and see it. Which method can create/produce man?.Answer: The claim/message/words of god in Al Quran is truth/true/right.
Conclusion: Certainly, we can create man by this method (claim by Al Quran). Al Quran is truth/true/right. Allah create man. Man belong to Allah. Man have to obey Allah rule/law. Prophet Muhammad s.a.w was the last prophet sent by Allah to us. This religion is truth/true/right. So, we have to believe/trust it . Please, read Al Quran and think. You get the answer. Sorry, my English is not very good.

They hold blasphemous beliefs that totaly contradict Islam and have broken off from the main stream Sunni Islam, this includes the Saud Family and the heresey they are teaching in their universities. Understand people that there are 73 sects in Islam. And only 1 will be riteous and that is the main body Ahle sunna wa al jamaat. Yasir Qadi is not from thr main body. And it is clearly stated in our books that when one leaves the main body and joins with the heretics then he loses his faith. And this is EXACLY what has happned.

The Qr'an,Sunnah and Islamic history demonstrate that true Muslims think and ask questions.Islam advocate seeking evidence to establish the truth. The story of Prophet Ibraheem-'alayhissalam-and his pondering over the cosmos, reflections, inferences, etc is well known. Also his rational criticism of his people's false worship is mentioned in details in the Qur'an.Islam demands that believers should think, reason and come to conclusions based on evidence.Islam does not forbid doubts arising from genuine inquiries but encourage the pursuit right answers to satisfy the mind and tranquil the heart. The story of Al-Imaam Abu Haamid Al-Ghazali is instructive in this leading to his writing of "Al-Munqidh Minad-Dalalah" (ie Deliverance from Error".
Even the Prophet Muhammad-peace be upon him-by way teaching his Ummah was told ask those that are familiar with revealed books if he is doubt that he is a recipient of revelation. He replied by saying "I am not in doubt and and as such I will not ask".Here is verse (Qur'an 10:94):
"If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee: the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in no wise of those in doubt."
He was not told to ignore any doubt, say "I aoodhubillaah,I believe in Islam,I will never leave islam, etc" as Sameer joked irresponsibly in one of his videos deriding himself thinking he is jeering at the believers to his own damnation.May Allaah guide and rescue him.
However, there is another kind of doubt that is not rooted in genuine research and desire for truth but rather to justify the worshiping base desires, drudging the truth, arrogant obduracy and spiritual and psychological attack by the Evil One-Shaytaan-may he be eternally cursed. It is this later one that rather requiring seeking Allaah protection and du'aa.

I will wait for a few days, and read the comments after a week or so. There is going to be lot of fireworks :)). I hope Sameer does not disapprove or remove any comment.

Abdullah Sameer, Islam isn't true, but God IS.
You are still on the path of knowledge. Perhaps in the Qur'an the literalness of the creation of Adam is overemphasised, but the real miracle of his creation is in the LOVE of the work.

I'm a Christian who as most, was once fully indoctrinated into the ideology of Evolution but I'm today a Creationist. Yet do not hate, will not mock nor do I wish to force anyone to believe what I believe as does Islam, and many Evolutionists.

My roommate in during my undergrad was a student of Islamic History and he believes that Quran has never been changed for a single words. I saw his notes but I surprisingly found that those were hateful.
