Trojan Records is proud to announce The Essential Artist Collection, a brand new series of artist-focused compilation albums showcasing some of the very best talent from the label’s esteemed roster. Championing their stellar catalogues, the series will highlight the most important ska and reggae tracks from the most influential artists and vocal/instrumental groups with each title available on double colour vinyl, double CD and digital formats.
Before Bob Marley's rise to pre-eminence, the title of the world's leading reggae performer rested firmly with another young singer from Kingston: Jamaica’s Desmond Dekker. Between 1967 and 1970, Desmond enjoyed a succession of international hit singles, breaking new ground with singles such as ‘007’, the first Jamaican-produced single to break into the UK top twenty, and ‘Israelites’, the first reggae single to reach the Number One spot in Britain and to breach the US chart. Further triumphs followed thereafter, with major chart hits including ‘It Mek’, ‘Pickney Gal’, ‘You Can Get It If You Really Want’ and ‘Sing A Little Song’, all of which cemented his place in history as Jamaica's first global superstar. This Essential Artist Collection set pays due respect to the original King of Reggae and superbly demonstrates the immense talent that set Desmond Dekker apart from his peers during the Golden Age of Jamaican music.

Everytime, this song is an absolute pleasure. And again in a billion years.
Oh Lord, this song was my anthem back in the day. Played this cut to death!
My Israelite brother, focus on the lyrics and rewrite this asap ✊🏾🗽

@@natecrooklockacab9020 genuinely interestet. thanks for your answer im way too young for this born in 95‘
I saw him too, i was around 14, then sat outside with him on his break, but too shy to talk to him, i think i might of cramped his style that night, thinking back i reckon it was a spliff he wanted to smoke, not a cigerette, so sorry Mr Dekker ❤ ❤❤ ❤❤
Such a pure, clean tone to his vocals, what a talent
How have I never heard this gem
Unless you where into ska unfortunately it’s not easy to come across.
Wow! What a song! Powerful! Beautiful! Can't believe I have never heard this before.
I could listen to just this song and no other songs for the rest of my days and never once feel i was missing out
Pure Desmond Dekker Magic!
Lynn Taitt & The Jets was DD&A's band in 1967 to summer 1968.
They most likely recorded Fu Manchu after the said backing band was disbanded. The instrumentation here sounds like its coming from Studio One musicians. Jackie Mittoo on organ and Eric Frater strumming the guitar.
Great tune!
Great sound quality!
Such a beautiful haunting track, and what and amazing voice!
I love reggae guetto Brazil
