  • 2012 seems like a long time ago. But for some reason this bike still rides like it's new with 74k miles.

    Put 175K mi on my 2012 S10. Picked up a 2014 (Gen 2) w/ 25K mi for $6500. The electronic suspension, cruise control, heated grips, etc. seem well worth it. At 55K mi now getting ready for valve adjust. Gen 2 engines has redesigned pistons and rings for even longer life. S10's shaft drive will never implode like BMWs bc it has the locator arm on the other side. The shaft hub never sees cantilevered loads. Also, BMW puts their flex boot at the final drive hub, where the S10's boot and U-joint is up at the top of the swing arm, more out of the way from road moisture. Engine reliability comes from lower HP/cu. in. compared to the the flashier offerings. Lower first cost, lower maintenance costs, less failures, & the S10 will always get you home. Ask Nick Sanders & Long Haul Paul. Super Teneres are the best long term value.

      Well said. I've been riding for over 40 yrs and been on more bikes than I can ever all recall. This machine has been the most remarkable of them all. It just gets the job done without a lot of drama. It's like your favorite well-worn comfy blue jeans or favorite pocketknife you've carried for many years, and you never feel the need to replace it.

      Yep. Im actually planning on the same. I have a 12 and now looking for a clean low mile used 2nd gen to purchase. Nothing wrong with my 12, but with prices dropping so low on used now, I figure if I can get a sweet deal on the right gen 2, why not?

    I bought a 2014 Super 10 with 30k yesterday and rode for a couple hours home from the dealer. Very solid down to the ground. My research has this bike as one of the best out there. VStrom also but not for long road trips in comparison...pegs too high, bars too narrow, wind challenged...Super 10 surpasses except in manuverabilty. Slower for sure but more solid at high speeds on the interstate. I need a bike for just that and scouting access roads into hunting areas. Like you I plan to keep this bike for a good long while.

    This bike is an amazing package and why I just bought my 2nd Super10. If it sounded better stock (like an Africa Twin) and had they just updated the design to make it slightly more aggressive (not KTM or Kawasaki agressive, just a bit less of a jelly bean), they would have easily sold twice as much. I installed a Storm exhaust on mine and it does sound better, but still not as good as a 1200 twin could sound :)

    I love my 2012 Super Tenere, thanks for the video......ridden it along the Trans Labrador Highway and Newfoundland two up! Upgrading the rear to a Penske suspension was a must for two up and the load. I still have my Garmin 276C like in your video. I am looking for the best tank bag setup...any comments would be appreciated. I am also considering Aerostich tank pannier bags.

    What would you say about stability with crosswinds on highway? Another owner commented it was not as comfortable or stable as his goldwing. Im thinking of replacing my voyager 1700 but still need comfort and protection for 600km highway days

      im fine doing 500kms on the super tenere. But it's hard to beat a goldwing for comfort and crosswinds. My st1300 is way more comfortable. But i'd rather ride the super tenere

      Nothing is more stable or comfortable than a goldwing. I just rode a 2003 Goldwing 3,700 miles. The trade off is the wing had 5in of ground clearance and 3in suspension travel. I'm selling my goldwing looking for an S10 so I can do gravel roads

    The Super Tenere is a great bike.... But I think it's kind of funny this guy downplays the KTM & BMW bikes as less efficient or less reliable... Which is totally not the case, dude just say you didn't want to spend that kind of money for a bike there's nothing wrong with that.... The Tenere is a really fun bike that can hang with the bugger Brands, at a way cheaper price which is super appealing.... But dont downplay the GS or the KTM because they will out perform this bike all day long.....

    • @PointsOnly
      @PointsOnly Год назад

      Reliability is a big factor when going on longer tours. If you look at statistics, 40% of bmw motorcycle owners experience a major failure and repairs during the first 4 years of ownership vs 11% for yamaha. Yamaha has the lowest failure rate out of all the motorcycle brands. The bmw has a lot more features , but you're paying around $8k more than that, along with higher maintenance costs. The gs1250 just had a major recall for gearbox input shaft drive failure affecting 18,000 bikes in January of this year.

      You have a point. Some value reliability above all, some value social status above all, others like features and electronic gadget stuff, other are speed addicts, other mesure value by amount spent...etc..
