Grew up on Boston Street. The city isn’t the same. It’s sad actually to see. I left about 6 years ago. Still have family in Dot. Also on E third. Makes me sad every time I go back to Boston. Live in Florida now.

I mean they bring money to the city but also don’t know what it means to be from southie or dot. They put a lot of money into the city. Even in Roxbury. The neighborhoods used to be so tight. Like eastie was all Italian dot was Irish and southie etc. the blacks lived in the Berry or up on the hill. Now you have doctors living up on the hill lol. Just them groups really took pride in they neighborhoods. Eastie is a lot of Spanish now. Just not so much pride. Boston is a very diverse city now. It’s good and bad. Culture is good but also can be bad some times. I miss the old southie and dot. Play in the streets and parties family alll live in a triple decker. We would walk down to the parade. After my grand parents passed amd few family it just want the same. If you didn’t own you were driven out. Prices went up. My father was a firemen in Roxbury he was an old school southie guy and he just felt the same. Like no one would want to live in southie 20 years ago lol. Maybe little Longer. And Roxbury never but now it’s changing. But it is what it is. Where are you from?

Living in the projects big families etc. they built that city. Southie still has Irish old school Irish. We have a huge parade on st pats. You’ll still see the flags hanging and the shamrocks all over the place. My family is from Waterford a town called Lismore. I go home a lot after pandemic going to see the family. Southie is very proud to be Irish.

Both southie & Charlestown were Irish until busing & integration Boston Shouldah left the City alone .Each heritage had their own hood & policed it themselves..Ya so we all had rotten apples but we all were safe looked out for & had pride.

@@Simps14 the market n high rents n condos literally kicked out all real irish blooded families...I blame rich hipster yuppies gentrification n high rent costs n also irish blooded families who inherited 3 deckers which are upright apartments housing 3 families, irish families inherited these n other units n instead of staying there ,as soon as gentrification came n the market shot up they all sold these 3 deckers n other units for top dollar instead of thinking bout the pride of the hood n neighborhood, they only thought of the millions they could make

Use to have “Monkey Bars” out back between each building and incinerators to burn shit. Those building are so much a part of Southie‘s culture. Loved seeing the video but sorta was bitter sweet, brother.

It’s at night where the problems are. But ur right definitely not that hood comparing to others and comparing to Jamaica plain Dorchester and mattapan… as an outsider of a city u can’t say it’s not hood. Media hides the hood so if u wanna see hood, just go to hoods ur self.
