You are very welcome! The ACS loves this topic and so I hope you feel a lot better with it now. I have a guide to help you prepare for the ACS here: Leah4sci.com/ACS
Thank you Professor Leah. Non-trad student studying for MCAT after taking undergrad ochem nearly 20 years ago. You just saved me hours of time and helped me recall so much. God send...Thank you so much!
Just Leah is fine, I'm no professor :) So happy to help you as you refresh and prepare for the MCAT. And kudos for going back to chase your dream! You can check out more of my MCAT resources here: leah4sci.com/MCAT
Professor Leah, I must say your videos have been absolutely amazing. I am currently taking organic chemistry along with Calculus II, Discrete Math, Python, and British Literature (least to say ive been so stressed this semester). My organic chemistry teacher makes this very complicated, and unlike him, you most definitely explain this in a clear, concise, and logical way. Thank you!
Oh my goodness! How are you surviving all of these classes at the same time? I'm sorry that your professor is adding stress on top of it all though I'm honored that my videos are filling in the gaps for you
@@Leah4sci, it’s been rather difficult, but I only have one more week left and then it’s summer yay! GOOD NEWS by the way, I got a 101 on my organic chemistry exam that I took a day ago, and now I am exempting the final exam. I ended up finishing organic chemistry with a high A, and I TRULY thank you, Professor Leah. You have been a GREAT teacher on Sn1, Sn2, E2, and E1 mechanisms! I hope you write a book one day on ochem! You truly make logical connections where many others don’t. Have a blessed summer!
Congratulations on putting in the hard work and earning a high A without even having to take your final exam. Thank you so much for the kind words, I am honored to have been a part of this journey with you. Wishing you success on your remaining exams followed by a relaxing summer vacation
10:51, Would there be a methyl shift from the 4*C to the 2*C, allowing a pi-bond? If yes, would that still be an elimination? (I'm guessing it's "Non-zero")
Yes, you could actually have an E1 reaction with rearrangement under the right conditions. So that is something to consider. What you cannot have is rearrangement in an E2 reaction because of its concerted single-step mechanism.
Hello ma'am Leah! i was wondering if the Sn1 (50:09 )reaction would give two products since the attacker can attack the upper and lower unbonded-pi-bond from the carbocation, making a racemic S and R configuration
When any R group is attached to Ph then in that case does the allylic carbonation (conjugated without being in resonance) is more stable or is it benzylic
I don't understand your question. If you have a group attached to benzene (the phenyl) that makes for a substituted benzylic carbocation, that will be so much more stable. I explain it more in detail here leah4sci.com/carbocation
Answer for that question-- tertiary carbonation is said more stable bcz it have 3 methyl Group which shows +I effect and increase the availability of elecron for tertiary carbonation. And in rest 2 degree and 1 degree we have lesser methyl group and so they are lesss stable due to lack of electron donar for them .❤
This is by far the most helpful video I’ve watched for this topic. Had so much trouble determining which mechanism from what starting materials and this broke it down so well, thank you. If I get a decent grade on this exam tomorrow you should get my tuition instead lol
I am so honored that my videos helped you get an A. Organic chemistry is not easy and YOU put in the hard work. Many watch, few put in the required effort. YOU DID IT!!
@@Leah4sci Yes it's a journey. I did creative arts in high school and university then decided I made a mistake and wanted to do science. It's absolutely not easy to switch as an adult and several RUclips channels including yours made it possible. Forever grateful.
that last question was a doozy, thank you so much for this video professor. Definitely would've failed that last question, wouldn't have even thought about how there are no beta H's.
RIGHT?!?! professors know this and intentionally trick you, but you're better prepared. I have even more tricky ones in the Midterm Worksheet so make sure you try that as well
I know that spending on pre-finals prep with everything else you have going on may be a struggle for some. That's why I am offering this discount during finals season. Looking forward to having you in the bootcamp

Typically yes, however in this case because the carbocation has 2 methyl groups, it will not be chiral after the nucleophile adds.

Glad to hear this helped a little. How do you feel now that your exam is over?

I want the reactions of preparing ketones and aldehydes from acids and others, in addition to the designations of the ethers in rings and non-rings.
I have a session on Aldehydes and Ketones, make sure to watch it
