    Im late to commenting on this, but I am SO happy you mentioned the "don't put up pieces in styles you don't want/enjoy working in". Over the years I have accumulated a few different styles, and while I am proud of the pieces, I am not sure that would be fun to do an entire project in it! I have been tempted to put these pieces in my portfolio, but I think I will think more carefully on this.

    • @AnooshaSyed
      @AnooshaSyed  2 года назад +6

      I'm glad my video was helpful! It can be so tempting to put in literally every piece you've ever created, but I have to remind myself that my portfolio isn't a collection of all the work I've done, but a carefully curated set of work intended for a specific audience!

    Good video 👏🏽. Did exactly what you brought up and used tumblr in combination with my own URL, so hearing that in the video was a nice affirmation that I was doing something right. Highly recommend the tumblr theme Illustfolio. The creator actively updates it (some themes don't play well with tumblr's updates and defaults to showing text first over any pictures included in the post 🙃). Another plus to tumblr is you can edit the HTML to further customize your website (some web hosts charge a tooooon more just for HTML editing!).

    For the kid lit portfolio, what size are those canvases on procreate? Could I size them directly from there or would I need to size them somewhere else afterwards? I am guilty of not really knowing which direction. I’d like to create family friendly prints for clothing etc to start and work towards children’s book illustrations

    • @littlestbroccoli
      @littlestbroccoli Год назад

      Think of what size you want to print at and make sure your canvas is that size in inches or centimeters, then make it above 150 dpi. Definitely start large and size down from there. It's impossible to go the other way.

      I think I poorly worded what I was trying to say haha; I guess the resolution doesn't matter too much; maybe 200dpi is a good in-between of high/low res, but I meant more of the dimensions itself; having a 1000x700px image is better than something that's 4000x3000px

    Hi I have a portfolio question! So, if you are applying for a certain position (like a character design job at a studio) would you create a specific section on your website for character design and only send the company a link to that part of your website? Like I know people talk about creating certain portfolios for specific jobs, but how do you separate that on your website to show you're specific in one area (even though they can see all the other areas on your portfolio site)? Hope this question makes sense lol!

    • @AnooshaSyed

    Hi Anoosha, thanks a lot for great content! I learned a lot from your videos about agency and this, portfolio bit~ I’m currently building my portfolio and just wondering any specific size when you mentioned about “single spread” for kidlit books? Thank you very much again and keep inspiring 😊✨

      Doesn’t have to be a specific size! Picture books come in so many different sizes.

    I’m a new digital artist and I have a nature based style. I have been asked to illustrate two books for people and these will be my first experience in illustration using my iPad Pro. What would you recommend I do to start? If the publishers would like my style I have been told they would pay towards my license and then I let them know my price for using the characters I design for them. I am hoping I can do this, and work from home

      There are a lot of procreate tutorials on RUclips and Instagram that might be helpful! I would also look into brushes that give that ‘traditional’ painting look. I recommend Max Ulichneys brushes!

    Thank you for the great video. By any chance, you have worked in Carmen Sandiego the Netflix Animation. It is so cool the characters remind me of your work. I binge-watched the whole series lol ^_^

    Thanks for this!! Quick question, as someone who wants an agent, should I make my portfolio before or after getting one?

      Definitely prepare your portfolio first!

    Can you make a video about character design? Thanks.

    Would you put something like illustration (book illustration), character design and background art (for animation prefferably) in one portfolio? Because illustration and animation does include background, character design and character sheets or turnarounds.
    So it seems quite fitting to have in one portfolio?
    But I also think that they are connected and need for one another, they are also separate things.

      You could! Just create different sections for them

      @@AnooshaSyed And some people put their skill drawings like studies or sketches too, would that be too much to put it in?
      Or is something like exploration sketches and process art to finished product better then some studies and sketches?
      Also, do you need to have some professional experience to put title in your portfolio? Like Character designer (illustator etc..), if you never actually been hired for character design, just something you've been doing on your own?

    Thank you for sharing~ Can I ask you a question? I'm an illustrator too and I also want to get a literary agent. I checked their website and all I can find is a writing submission requirement instead of an illustration. What should I do? should I just submit my art anyway or contact the agent first and ask their demand? Hope you can answer me~ Thank you again~

      It's possible that they don't represent illustrators! You could try to submit something but there is a chance that they are simply unable to represent you because they only work with authors :(

    Do we need to first create sketch on paper before illustration? I am also interested in learning children books illustration, can you please guide how to start with?

    • @AnooshaSyed
      @AnooshaSyed  3 года назад

      You don’t need to, whatever you’re comfortable with! I like to start with a sketch to get out my thoughts and ideas. I have other videos that talk about being a children’s illustrator!
