Badd Medicine here and its reaction time
A rookie member of an elite team of commandos, Rama (Iko Uwais) is instructed to hang back while his comrades-in-arms go ahead with their mission to take down a brutal crime lord called Tama (Ray Sahetapy). However, the team's cover is blown, and Tama offers sanctuary to every criminal in his high-rise apartment block in exchange for the cops' heads. Now Rama must take command and lead his remaining team on an ultraviolent charge through the building to complete -- and survive -- the mission.

Oak: "What a brutal way to start a movie..."
Raid 2: "...tee hee..."
That broomstick
"Jo! Dont do it Jo!" *BANG*
I think a film critic was quoted as saying, "Action films can be classified into pre- and post-Raid"
This hilarious...
It make sense tho. Russo bros even admitted they were inspired by the raid movies for the combat scenes in the Winter Soldier movie. All in all, the Raid marks the end of super-fast cuts & shaky cams era
@@FawwazSyarif omg really? thats freaking coool
That's the perfect way to describe this.
From here on end, The Raid is the movie that all other future action flicks will be measured by.
No offense to Raid, gotta give it to my fellow Indonesians and the briliant director. But man, Ong Bak is the start of this style.
The 2 raid movies will always be my first pick whenever someone asks me about the best hand to hand action movies.
That scene in the kitchen😮
I agree these are great, legendary even, however Jackie Chan vs. Bennie the Jet in Wheels on Meals is still hands down the best hand to hand fighting.
@@billbill6094 ofc Jackie Chan is the legend.. he set the bar real high for any action star to come.
Watch "The Night Comes For Us" and "Headshot" staring Iko Uwais. He has 4 GREAT movies
@@xl081 I've seen the night comes for us.. headshot i haven't seen. Will checkout.
If you guys haven't already found out, the martial art in these films is a variation of silat. Iko Uwais (Rama) and Yayan Ruhian (Mad Dog) did the fight choreography together, and Ruhian had also had a history as a fight trainer for the Indonesian Police. True badasses!
Also Ruhian has taught silat in multiple countries, and is a very accomplished martial arts master. It really shows in the movie, he moves like he's weightless
Yeah this movie is basically an intentional showcase of how cool Silat is.
Kinda why the film is so brutal, because of all the traditional martial arts I'm aware of, Silat is among the most dirty and violent.
Is raid 3 coming?
@@Meebomtamo no I'm pretty sure they cancelled it years ago
@@the0skeptic
It wasn't cancelled.
There have been no plans for Raid 3 after Raid 2 was done.
I wish they change their minds tho.
Such a massive shame that writer/director Gareth Evans's DC Deathstroke movie never happened after his two Raid movies :( Highly recommend his Gangs of London crime show!
I think about how great Evans’s Deathstroke would’ve been daily. It would’ve been amazing
Legitimately one of the biggest mishandlings of the Deathstroke character especially since he had to appear in the Abysmal Titans Series.
Gangs of London is absolutely off the chart great TV.
'Gangs of London " great series,
But Americans would call it"WOKE"....
@@strettoasino9006in what way would you consider it “woke”. That’s the last thing that comes to mind with that series
The Indonesian actor that plays the henchman you mentioned is a stunt man and he was part of Star Wars The Force Awakens and John Wick Chapter 3
All three guys from the Raid movies should've been Knights of Ren
He's much more than that , Yayan Ruhian is a silat master wh teaches the art in Indonesia and Iko Uwais the protagonist of the movie is actually one of his students
@@afroahmed3989What a badass
They both was in Star wars
@@shawnjohnson2837 But they were wasted as smugglers or pirates or whatever they were.
This movie is so realistic to me that I don’t know how no one died making this 😅
When I showed the Raid 2 movie to a friend of mine, he was legit concerned about the actors/stuntmen. 😅
Apparently the guy who looks like he breaks his back was actually injured, but was back before they finished filming the movie.
that one of the machete guy seems to be injured after he slams a wall
All the stuntman have basic 'Silat' but still there is plenty of them got injured 😂
No die but just broke some bone. 😆
Many of them in this film is athlete from Indonesian martial art name is silat same like taekwondo, muaythai but silat is more deadly if apply in real fight like what Rama and mad dog do.
Many silat school in Indonesia same like Shaolin school in China.
One of the best action movies in the last 24 year's
There is a movie that came out around the same time.”Warriors of the rainbow” title is not great with all the lgbt crap around, but it’s an epic Taiwanese story of guerrilla fighting against the japs.Movie is way better than expected.
What action movie came out in 2000 that you think blows this out the water?
@@billbill6094in terms of pure action, I can't think of any movie beating this. 😂
@@egomana9329 Yea.. this movie hit different
This the movie when most reactor say "oohhh.. ahhhh... ohhhh..."
You might recognize Joe Taslim, who played Sgt. Jaka, as Sub-Zero from the most recent Mortal Kombat movie. Iko Uwais & Yayan Ruhian, who played Rama & Mad Dog, respectively, had a cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens along with their friend Cecep Arif Rahman, who appears in The Raid 2. Ruhian & Rahman also appeared in John Wick Chapter 3 as Zero's students.
Jaka played in Fast Furious 6 too. He played very well in that movie.
Mad dog was in John Wick and he has an impressive resume. The guy that fought him was Sub-zero in the new Mortal Kombat movie
yeah he had to dumb down so much to make Keanu look good lol
Also a main badass character in Warrior, the show based on Bruce Lee's writings and produced by his daughter.
100s of millions dollars cant replace great choreography/dedication/training/Skill and the Patience to make it look good.
The hallway fights in Daredevil were inspired by the hallway fights in this movie, the top down combo shot in Shang Chi was inspired by the one from this movie, the knife fights and flexible weapons in John Wick Chapter 3 were inspired by the fights here. Incredibly influential action film that not a lot of people have even heard of.
You may recognize the two bodyguards as the guys who let John Wick live at the end of the third movie because they were fans, who he then let live in return after he bodyslammed them through glass floor. That's probably why they looked familiar to Answer. If I'm not mistaken Cecep actually trained Keanu Reevs for those knife fights and is one of the highest ranked martial artists in Silat. Another actor you may recognize is Joe Taslim was Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat, and in a phenomenal cinemax kung-fu show you should check out called Warrior.
What John Wick is for guns The Raid is for hand to hand combat
Facts 😅
What The Raid did for action movies is why we ended up with John Wicks instead of the early 2000's industry-standard Jason Bourne 250 shakycam jumpcuts in each fight.
Oh man, you gotta continue with The Raid 2. And in similar vein of the Raid, highly recommend The Night Comes For Us, another Indonesian action film but much more gruesome and violent and the star of the Raid (Iko Uwais) plays the main bad guy in the film. Definitely two action films that’ll blow you away.
And Joe Taslim, the cop who is killed by Mad Dog here, is the protagonist.
*MERANTAU (2009, Iko Uwais debut film)* and *HEADSHOT (2016)* are also worth watch. Highly recommended if you want to see same style of action. My advise is to watch them all (including The Raids and TNCFU) in chronological order to see how the team and actors improved with each film. 👍
Nobody gonna mention Triple Threat?
@@shoujahatsumetsu That movie was insane, I was so shocked when I learned there was a movie with Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White, Tiger Chen, Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa and I had NEVER heard of it until I saw it randomly on streaming. Like nobody bothered to tell me that many action legends were doing a movie together?
NIGHT COMES FOR US is BRUTAL😂 lol but definitely up there wit the Raid movies.
This is a relatively unknown film in the US, partly because american audiences generally don't like to watch foreign movies with subtitles. That's why even a lot of film and action fans like you haven't heard of it. But it's actually really influential. This came out in 2011 and if you watch action films before that, there's a trend for shaky, close up camera shots and many quick cuts, influenced by the Bourne films and Taken. After The Raid 1&2 came out, there's a noticeable shift in the way action is shot, with a lot less cuts, wider angles and a desire to show more of the stuntwork and more of what's actually happening. The John Wick series is an example. John Wick director Chad Strahelski said that he's a big fan of the The Raid guys' work and it's no coincidence that two of the final bosses of Wick 3 are Yayan Ruhian, who plays Mad Dog in The Raid 1 and Prakoso in The Raid 2, as well as Cecep Arif Rahman, who's basically the final boss of The Raid 2.
It may not be known by as many people as it deserves to be, but certainly everyone got to feel their influence.
Mad dog vs the brothers is maybe the greatest single fight i have ever seen in a movie. It is truly insane
Fun fact, and what made me aware of this film, the score was done by Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park. Such an epic film that gave worldwide recognition to some incredible stunt performers.
Another fun fact, Iko Uwais (the main actor) is also a world champion in Silat demonstration, the martial art he uses in the film. This film also catapult him and the stunt team onto the world stage and they have done quite a few action films and stunt choreography in major film, since this.
Also, never trust the white guy in a foreign film
Fun fact: The guy who played Jaka (Joe Taslim) also played Sub Zero in the latest Mortal Kombat movie
And Li Yong in warrior
I am gleefully telling my job that I'm putting in my two-weeks notice today, and this reaction is the shot of adrenaline I'm waking up with. I deserve better than that place, and after five years it's time to acheive it. Let's go!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Good luck & never ever be in a place ur not happy in. It's ur life and u only have one shot at it so do what makes u happy & I wish u the best!!
@@BaddMedicineThere is two of these they use Silat in these movies.Mad Dog plays in part two also as a different character and plays in John Wick three. The cop that got killed by Mad Dog is Joe Taslim he played Sub Zero in the new Mortal Kombat movie and he plays in the tv show Warrior that has three seasons and is on netflix.
When rating fight choreographies, The Raid is what comes to mind as the best example of how it should be done. The action here has yet to be replicated in Hollywood. Imagine if, let’s say, superhero movies had this level of choreography. It would be so brilliant
The best choreography in a superhero project wasn't even a movie, it was in the Daredevil show which was highly inspired by _this movie._ Silat is even one of that version of Daredevil's main styles.
The Batman also has action choreography mixed from Silat from Indonesia,
The closest hollywood has gotten is John Wick
@@BranDZ7yeah John Wick definitely improved the fire arms action scenes but I'd say their hand to hand combat scenes are still a bit too rigid (which is possibly due to Keanu's age and I don't blame him, he's doing great work!). If they bring Iko Uwais into the Wick universe, however, and make him a new force to be reckoned with then that be great
There is this meme about Mad Dog:
You can be cool.
But you can't be Mad Dog fighting two guys at once with a neon lamp in his neck cool !
Such a great action movie !
lol. That’s why that final fight will always be a stand out to me. In a 2 v 1 fight, Mad Dog was still handing the brothers their butts. The brother’s win totally came down to luck with that broken lamp.
All three main actors were professional martial art athletes. Mad Dog n Rama's fight mostly use Pencak Silat martial art. Jaka (the sergeant) was a taekwondo athlete. Yayan Ruhiyan (yeyen rooheeyen) is actively making fight coreography in many movies, and he still train in his Pencak Silat dojo. Thank you for making one of my requests come true, boys! Can not wait until you watch The Raid 2. I know you'll love it more 😎
Sorry, just correcting your information a bit. Joe Taslim (Jaka) was previously a Judo Athlete who was also a member of the Indonesian national judo team
The Raid 2 is simply the best action movie ever made. Can't wait for you guys to experience it and to react to it.
I concur doctor.
Facts!! I'm sure you guys will love it just as much.
His brother was smiling in the end because he was the one who bought the higher ups to get control over the whole business (he also said you don't kill cops you buy them) , you can see he realised it was his brother all along in the last shot .
Oh hell yeah!!!!! You DEFINITELY have to watch the sequel. The Raid 2 is an actual action epic
Second is better
one of my favourite movies of all time. I remember reading the back of the dvd case and reading "7 minutes of drama, 113 minutes of action" or something along those lines lol
Wait until you watch Raid 2😂
This is some of the best martial arts in film you will see, Raid 2 takes it up another level if you can believe it!
fun fact, Mad Dog (Yayan Ruhian) was once a pencak silat martial arts trainer for the Indonesian Presidential Security Forces
The choreography in this movie is INSANE.
This movie is my all time favorite. When he slit the thigh and knocked dudes head down the wall will always be my #1 fight scene!! Can’t wait for you bro watch next the next chapter!!
The sequel are even crazier hahaha thank you for this reaction, really loving your channel
The best martial art action movie ever made in my opinion.
When me and my friends first saw this movie, it felt like we just discovered fire
The Raid has some of the most visceral fight scenes out there. This really put Indonesians and Silat on the map for me. That was sick.
Bro this film is an action movie lover's wet dream. Freakin s tier fighting film
When people say "this is pure action movie", they mean "this is PURE ACTION movie"
As a fellow Indonesian myself, this movie is very special to me. Growing up with Jackie Chan and such, to having Iko representing what me and my cousins always wanted to be as kids is just special! Always makes me happy to see people react to it as well
This movie is an adrenaline masterpiece and thankfully the second one is just as great. Director Gareth Evans is an incredible action director. You should DEFINITELY check out the sequel and also Gareth’s TV series Gangs of London…. Both are WOW!!! So glad you guys loved it. Great reaction!
Jeff Speakman! Great callback from the Oak!
Really cool to hear that you had a fairly extensive martial arts background growing up. I was also into Taekwondo in my teens but didn't have the drive to go for too long.
Raid is a great action showpiece and a testament to the Indonesian action movie ecosystem.
Can't wait for you guys to start The Raid 2 and meet The Siblings. My favorite duo in action movies of all time!
Mad Dog, the villain, he plays in John Wick 3. Jaka, the good cop, plays as Sub Zero in the last Mortal Combat. And Rama, the main character, plays in Fast n Furious, Star Trek, and many other Hollywood movies.
Jaka also plays as a villain in fast n furious
@@gilangazhari6589 Ah, yes! You are right! Thanks :D
And he was the fight choreographer for this movie and for John Wick 3 and I think he always is for the movies he plays.
@@diogosoares8156 True that!
Iko Uwais who plays Rama isn't in Star Trek and Fast an Furious but he was in Star Wars VII , Snake Eyes and Expendables 4
This film is so bloody good. I havnt seen the other one tho.
That door kill is so iconic.
Watch it, it's real good
Watch it bro its so much better
You guys badly need to check out Warrior (TV show) if you liked this!
It’s basically a show about Chinese tongs in 19th century San Francisco based on Bruce Lee’s original treatment for what became the TV show Kung-Fu. Joe Taslim (Jaka in The Raid) is one of the key antagonists, Andy Koji from Bullet Train is the lead, and it’s produced by Shannon Lee, Bruce’s daughter, and Justin Lin, who directed most of the good Fast & Furious movies.
The show is just wild, with tons of action, and really stellar acting.
This was quite a blood thirsty, but was a bloody good film! Been enjoying all the Asian shows/films you've been doing lately! May I suggest 'House of Flying Daggers' film possibly for the future?
Great content as always!
I'm so happy yall watched this movie! It's like when you share your fav song with a friend for the first time lol
That's the actor who played Jaka also played Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat, if you didn't notice.
If I remember correctly, this was called the best action movie of all time, or of the century? Short century though.
This movie inspired some much needed changes in modern action films.
I'm Indonesian, and I saw this back at theatres when it premiered. Indonesian cinema was kind of in a weird spot then with a lot cheap copy of horror parody movies with heavy sexual themes releasing every other week. So when The Raid released it was like a breath much needed fresh air, and things were elevated since then, including the sequel, Raid 2 , which was even crazier, if you can believe that. Excited for guys to react to the sequel!
Y'all are killing me w this movie. Ur facial expressions have me in tears😂 & at some point i lost count of how many times u actually yelled out ooh or aaww!! Great reaction. This movie has the most amazing fight choreography ive seen in quite a while. Love it❤💞❤️
i’m an indonesian and i know this movie is probably our most famous one (internationally), but i never actually get myself to watch it. 13 years later, i’m seriously going to watch it so i can watch your reaction.
Seriusan? Kemana aja kamu, yallah, sayang banget 13 tahun ini belum nonton... Sangat disayangkan 😭
Tapi combat kaya the raid, demi allah ga bakal lekang di makan jaman, the raid jadi batas terbaik film action.
TOP TIER ACTION MOVIE!! The sequel is also INCREDIBLE, the choreography is unreal in these movies (just pure ACTION).
The Raid 2 is the magnum opus...the Godfather part II of this. The story really opens up the (under)world that the first one was taking place in, and the action is AMAZING!!! Tou guys will love it!! Baseball boy and Hammer girl...that's all I'm going to say!!
Oh boy are you in for a ride with the sequel.
EDIT: And you absolutely should watch Dredd from 2012. Very similar story but extremely different execution. No pun intended.
i was also thinking of Dredd. it's great
And now you get to do "The Raid 2." That was the movie Gareth Evans wanted to make, but couldn't get the backing, so he made "The Raid:Redmption" as a kind of proof of concept for the second movie. IMO, it is the rare sequel that outdoes the original.
That doorframe RKO was always my favorite “OHHH” moment of this movie. Sooo good.
Also please watch HARDCORE HENRY! You want a movie that is literally non stop, that’s your movie. It’s also got the unique element of being shown entirely from the first person perspective.
THIS IS, BY FAR, the best reaction I've seen for this classic action flick!! Great Job guys!
That thigh stab-and-rip is one of the nastiest takedowns I've ever seen in my life
Jaka, played by Joe Taslim. Bi Han from Mortal Kombat, Jah from F&F6, and Li Yong from Warrior.
Also multi-time Judo medal winner.
Warrior 🔥🔥🔥
"This has to be the most epic fight scene I've ever seen"
And then they saw the Raid 2.
Interesting note: The Raid 2 was supposed to be the Raid 1, Gareth Evans original vision was for that to be the first movie, however they couldn't get the budget for it, so he went back and developed this, which gave them basically a blank check for the 2nd film. And it shows, the cinematography in the 2nd film sets the bar for action films to another level as well. That's not all, the 2nd film fills out in areas this one was unable to...even though it's an amazing film.
I just screamed when I saw this. SO excited to see you guys watch this!!!
This is the best action movies ive ever watched def my fav, im glad yall react to this
I won passes at work to see The Raid as a advanced screening a few days before its theatrical release.i knew nothing about it, didn't see the trailer or anything. It blew my mind. It sets a high bar for action/martial arts movies. It's so damn good
Fun fact, Sergeant Jaka is played by Joe Taslim and he is the sub zero actor now
So excited! I know you guys are gonna love this!
Let’s Go one of the best action movies ever
Mad Dog is a very well known stunt man, actor and martial artist. In John Wick 3 he played on of the bad guys. Once you watched the second Raid, maybe give Ong Bak a try. Also very, very well done action movies.
Hope Oldboy (2003 film) gets a chance would love to see a reaction to that
And NOT the remake.
I have been waiting for you guys to watch this for a while, and i wasn't disappointed. You all seemed to like all the main bits i was wishing for. Great fun guys. Can't wait for RAID 2
Next THE RAID 2
51:10 YES!!!! Jeff Speakman....aka...The Perfect Weapon! Loved that freakin movie when i was a teenager!!
Great movie showcasing Silat. RAID 2 is awesome! The kitchen fight scene with Cecep is epic. Great video.
OMG The Raid 2 is a MUST!
Mann I Love this Movie 🎥, Great Reaction Fellas, when he slammed the guys Neck through the door 😮. Wow! Can’t wait for part 2.
@BaddMedicine The head cop (Joe Taslim) was in Fast and Furious 6, and he was also Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat (2021). Check him out in the hit series "Warrior".

- THE NIGHT COMES FOR US
- HEADSHOT
WAS WAITING FOR THIS AND CANT WAIT FOR YOU GUYS TO REACT THE RAID 2!!
I genuinely can't believe you gents haven't seen this movie and its sequel! Without trying to colour your opinions, both those movies were probably the best martial arts movies of their entire decade.
Ah so the three stars of this movie went on to have pretty decent careers in action. Joe Taslim will be seen this year in Mortal Kombat 2. He's subzero and was clearly the best part of the movie (Ok, the best part of the movie was definitely Josh Lawson's Kano, he was absolutely hilarious).
Iko Uwais is always really impressive in whatever he's in though he's often the only shining light of an otherwise terrible movie. I'm hoping that changes though!
Anyway, can't wait to for y'all to watch the sequel. If you want recommendations after that, Ong Bak. Ong Bak stars Tony Jaa and that man is unbelieveable. I think there's a movie called Triple Threat which also stars Iko but I haven't watched that yet.
Already cant wait for the second movie😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉
I feel like for a lot of these guys this was their breaktrough movie. I've spotted a lot of them in movies that came after this like John Wick.
True many movies inspired form this like the fight coreo Jaka (main actor) involving in it
The guy who plays Mad Dog, the villain that 1v2s our brothers, is the stunt coordinator for the Raid films, and was in John Wick 3. He's one of the gnarliest stunt coordinators in the world, honestly, and the Raid 2 cements him that title.
The soundtrack also was
The taking point in the Raid🙌
The Raid 2 is absolutely fucking insane when it comes to camera work
Go go go Indonesian movie ❤❤❤🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩 the martial art in this movie from Indonesia calls "Pencak Silat"next please react the raid 2👍👍👍
RIP for the villain, he's been doing great as antagonist in his entire career
Iko uwais is a badass
In the Raid one of the
Greatest martial artists
Goosebumps moments
In every scene in dis🔥🔥
Yooo! I'm so happy that you got to see the recent 4K colour-regrade as your first viewing! I found it so hard to track down as it sold out instantly in the UK. As someone who grew up in Jakarta this film is very special to me
Man, I thought I noticed the picture was WAY better here. I'm gonna try to get that 4K today for sure haha
@@reservoirdude92 Yeah! It only came out back in January and the remaster was done by Gareth Evans himself.
it's always fun to watch the reaction of this movie (1&2).
nice reaction guys !
Mad dog was in John Wick movie, and the captain is Sub Zero from Mortal Kombat Movie
Thank you for reacting this movie is so good.
Man I cannot wait for the Raid 2 reaction :))))
And the interesting thing is the action style of John Wick inspired by The Raid movie. The Raid influences so many hollywood movie like Captain America winter soldier, batman, green arrow, dare devil and others, . If you watch how yayan throws the opponent who strangle the neck from behind with jumping, so many movie use that move after it performed by Yayan in this movie.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE ACTION MOVIE!!! I'VE LOST COUNT ON HOW MANY TIMES I WATCHED IT!!! SO DAMN EFFIN GOOD!!!
More “O’s” in this episode than a bowl of cheerios lol! Was so excited you guys gave this movie a chance 😊
THE RAID 2 more brutal
Can’t wait to watch the raid 2 with yall, it’s probably my favorite action movie.
This is what you get when you have people at the helm who know their shit.
Shoutout to all the boys in the film who put their bodies on the line. Even the random henchmen are excellent in this
25:07 The villain guy is Mad dog, he also played in some hollywood movies like Star Trek, John Wick, etc.
