💡Tired of the hustle and bustle of big cities, I gave up my high-paying job, bid farewell to the city, returned to my hometown, and walked into the beautiful jungle. I not only built my own dream home in the jungle but also used my knowledge to help my relatives and friends repair all kinds of machines for free in my spare time. I also helped many of my Chinese fans repair machines for free.

She is a electric motor repair woman, millwright, fabricator, engineer, mechanic and all out hard working brilliant technician. Love the videos , brings back memories of working with my Dad. Fearless. I wish we didn't junk all our old shop tools I would send them to her though her ability to work with simple tools is astounding.
On a side note she dresses up much prettier than any of us ever did.

I am also very impressed with these jobs. Excellent! A couple of words of advice to you. I have noticed that you do not wear respiratory and hearing protection when using a grinder or flex. The dust released from this is equally dangerous to the lungs as the spray paint where you do use respiratory protection. (This dust usually contains materials like asbestos etc. Extremely dangerous (asbestosis, mesothelioma etc.).
I didn't see any hearing protection during this operations either. Acoustic trauma like noise-induced hearing loss is caused by this. And in both cases the damage to lungs and hearing is not reversible. These are insidious processes, and when you start to notice it, it is already late, or even too late.
Finally, while working with the windings of the generator coils it is best to wear face shielding as well. These wires are sharp and can be very unruly. Eye damage happens in a split second.
It would be a pity if you were to incur physical damage during your fine work. You also set an example for your followers, so please keep that in mind. I hope you stay healthy and continue to make such interesting restoration videos for a long time.

  • @rlaxton666

I love how heavy duty the new box was! Obviously the original had been smashed and abused until it failed. Hopefully this one will last a bit longer. You do amazing work with very little fancy equipment. Very impressive.
I love the end. Obviously this is a giant alternator and you had to energise the coils to get it started until it would self excite. So simple and yet demonstrates deep understanding of how these machines work, although I am a bit surprised that a machine of this age has not magnetised itself enough to self-excite. Might have been all the tap tap tapping.

    • @chriss4365
      @chriss4365 2 года назад +3

That's why I prefer motors with actual magnets in them vs having to energize one of the coils via an electromagnet but these do generate more power than with a stationary magnet.

    Lin,
Take those large shaft bearings and heat on a incandescent light bulb for about 10 to 15 minutes until too hot to touch, take quickly to shaft and should slip right on. The light bulb heat will not damage the bearing seals. I have used this many times for externally mounted bushings, gears and bearings, just handle with your welding gloves for safety. The bigger the part the longer you sit on light bulb to reach maximum heat.
Try it sometime on an old bearing and shaft to see how it works!

I am commenting here to save you some time.

This was basically what my father did for a living, but he worked at larger company (ABB Service). Spent a few summers helping him when I was in highschool.
After he had retired they had to call him in a couple of times because none else had the skills to rewind the larger engines.
Anyway you should really really get a lifter, your back will thank you in a few years.

This repair culture does exist in the first world, at least the English speaking first world. It's called refurbishment. Most companies and even some private individuals use refurbished equipment generally because it's cheaper. It's only large companies that want absolute manufacturer reliability that use nothing but new equipment.

Cool to see the generator "jump start" at the end... fun fact - if there's not enough residual magnetism, induction generators won't actually produce any power until the magnetic field exists, but then it becomes self re-enforcing.

How exactly does it help when she touches the AC output with a DC battery? Am I missing something?

    • @big0bad0brad
      @big0bad0brad 2 года назад +1

@@asynchronnymotor4627 Yeah, imagine that you have a permanent magnet moving near a coil of wire - you get some voltage out of the coil as the magnetic field changes.
Now imagine you have a non-magnetized piece of metal moving near the coil - nothing at all happens. This is sort of the state of the rebuilt generator. Nothing is magnetized well enough to start producing voltage. When she taps the battery on the terminals, it forces some current to build up in one coil, which creates a magnetic field, and this induces a current in the rotor, which means that the rotor now has its own magnetic field and generation can begin.
The specifics of this are a lot more complicated (it actually took a couple tries to get it to stay operating) but that's the basic idea. This kind of generator doesn't use any permanent magnets (though most likely after it's been running once, there may be enough residual magnetism in the iron for it to start again by itself next time). If that's the case, maybe the reason it needed to be excited again is if the coils were placed into the stator offset from their original positions? I'm a little fuzzy on that myself. Or maybe this generator always needs a kick to start up. Not sure.

Seemed clear to me she's done this kind of job before - and more than once. The only part of the video that I found suspect was the welding. Normally when a seam is welded, it's not done with a whole series of "tack" welds, but a continuous flow along the seam. Made me think that while she may have rebuilding generators down, she's never been taught how to weld.

And I never saw anyone dress that way who works in a shop, never, and that is over 50 years of experience. What I see pure and simple is an actress. If you would put her in any shop I was ever in she would be a gopher at best.
