What if youre bike doesn't start up at all after you did the carb rebuild instead it makes a loud boom noise
I would make sure the plugs are good. Even if they look good, I'd try a new pair. I will be making a new video soon getting the bike going for the season where I show almost exactly this issue.
@@EvanWells07 this is my first bike I've owned the most I did to the carbs were taking the bottom bowls off taking the jets out cleaning them and putting it back together before my bike started up and now it won't start up and makes a loud boom noise and you see a flame come out the top exhaust tip
It sounds like it's loading up on fuel, then igniting it. That's why I say to try a new set of plugs. These things are the most picky thing I've ever worked on when it comes to plugs and fouling.
This is also my first bike, I've always been a car/truck guy, but got this for free, so I figured I'd give it a go.
@@EvanWells07 okay I'll definitely try to get new plugs and see how that does
Yes it's a nice one.i have an 86. Learn to work on it with this guy.i love it
Thanks!
I like this guy...gonna make that gauge for carbs., genius 😮
Thanks! I think he's pretty cool too 😎
What a beautiful motorcycle!
Thank you! More to come on it soon!
Hi, nice video, how many turns is your air screws turned out? and what size is your main jets and pilot/idle jets?
My jets are one size up from stock on both. I don't remember how many turns out, but I will be getting the bike back out soon and will probably go through all of that again.
Yes.please how many turns on idle adjustment screw.rebuilt carbs.,skipped this step.bad idea? Was scared I couldn't set back right again.
Evan, might be a stupid question but where do you hook the lines up at?
They are hooked up to the vacuum ports on the carb boots. I have a short on the channel showing exactly where if that helps.
Nice bike👍🏻 Do you mind make a quick tutorial on how to set the mixture-screws as well? I having trouble getting my xv1100 with mikuni carbs running properly😥
I could possibly do that. It's getting nice here again, so I will be getting the bike out soon.
@@EvanWells07 perfect! 👍🏻
Hi, i have the same problem with my airscrew settings, is it 1 1/2 turns out, or 2 turns out or 2 1/2 turns, i saw a guys video where he gad the screws 3 1/8 turns out.
i like old bikes like this virago, intruder and vmax......i dont even know how to ride motorcycle but i will buy one if i find any of the 3 that is very clean and fairly priced
Thanks for watching! They are fun bikes for sure!
Nice job ! 👍
Where did you fini your led headlight ?
If you have a link, it will be cool 😊
Thanks! The headlight is for a Harley, I cut the ring off the Yamaha and modified it to fit so it bolts in like factory.
@@EvanWells07 thanks for the answer...
Greatings from France ✌️
No problem. Thanks for watching!
Guys what position is your TPS set at on the xv1100?
Let's see that F100!
Soon young padawan
Where do you attach the hoses to?
They go to the vacuum ports directly behind the carbs on the boots.
Did you ever get it sorted out with th e plugs etc??
I have been working on it a lot lately. Have a new video coming soon!
@@EvanWells07 cool i have the same bike year and would like to see that video of the bogging fix would also like to know what vacum ports you used for the sync
In my latest video on the bike I show a little more in depth (or just the stuff I missed) in this video. I should be putting the new video out today where the flooding issue is corrected. Hope they help!
But where you put those 2 tubing at carburator, that cant see, good if tell and show that too😊
I have another video where I show more of that in detail on the channel.
How do i hook it up in the carb?
There should be a vacuum port behind each carb. That is where you hook each line up to.
When you did the straight pipes what did you use for jets when you rejetted? Just curious
i played around with jets alot. i think it is currently 1 size up on both jets and still may be a little rich at idle.
@@EvanWells07 with my stock pilot jets mine is ok I went to a 42.5 which is the next size up and was too rich as well. Unless you are running pod filters directly on the you shouldn’t go up a size on the pilot just keep it stock. I was fueling plugs because of that as well
@@Donjacobson11 yeah i probably need to go back to stock on them.
@@Donjacobson11 Hi, what is your main jets size on both carbs? and what is your air screws settings, i also have a straight pipe on my xv1100 1998 model
@@bertusnolte512 I haven’t straight piped my bike I have a cobra exhaust which is pretty open. I had 130 in the front and 132.5 in the rear and 2 .20 shims on the needles that got me pretty close
Can you make a video quickly to show how you connected the hoses, and also how to sync with higher rpm thank you
I will be getting the bike out soon, so i can make something. Thanks for watching!
Did you ever make the video on how you connected the hoses??? I just found your video, and I need to do this to my bike, but I'm not sure if you ever did this.😊@@EvanWells07
Sorry I didn't. It's just connected to the vacuum ports on the carb boots directly behind each carb. Maybe I will make a short of it to put up soon.
I just pull the tube off the tank that runs to the front boot and hook that up to my synchronizer. The rear ones easy to get to using some long nose pilers. Easier than removing everything.
You still have your 88 virago? I have an issue and haven’t been able to solve it … Tim
Yep still got it. Didn't ride it much this summer because I picked up a moped.
Lol 🤣, just don’t tell anyone!
Have you ever had problems with your carbs other than syncing. I’ve had nothing but issues with mine. I remove the California smog to being off of it and that seem to make them run better. I had built them already. Now it did sit for a while, but my same problem is come back with it just without the choke on full will not even run, and then it barely runs. It’s almost like there’s a major vacuum leak.
@user-kt2zn6ym1t I have had nothing but problems with the carbs since I got the bike. I did replace the stator, regulator, and battery also, but never made a video about it. Other than that, no issues.
Evan, I have zero experience with engines -where are you plumbing in those tubes? Demonstrating how you manage to hold higher revs and balance the carbs would also be great. And did you set the gaps of the plugs? or just screw new ones in and get lucky? :D
sorry i should have shown where to hook it up. there are 2 small vacuum ports on the boots behind the carbs that i hook the lines up to. to check it at higher RPM i just turn the idle screw up to hold it consistent (and so i have both hands free).
and before i installed the new plugs i always gap them. I use bpr7es NGK plugs in this bike, and they dont come out of the box gapped correctly for the bike.
@@EvanWells07 Thanks man!
so simple excellent
Thanks! I have an old style mercury gauge, but i dont like using it because its glass tubes and mercury...
I liked bottle idea, but the question is... Where two long tubes from the bottle go to, you didn't show that part.
They go to the vacuum ports on the intake boots for each carb.
I used some vitamin water bottles and they collapsed from the vacuum when I started the bike(91, 1100). I was still able to get the carbs balanced, but I was just wondering if this is a normal thing? Your bottles don’t look too dissimilar and yet they stayed intact. Also, after I was done getting them adjusted, my idle RPMs were at around 2300. I had to use the little screw next to the throttle cables to lower it. I’m not sure if this is common either, but it worked. Thanks for the video, the bike looks killer.
Thanks! Glad it helped! Yeah you need a pretty sturdy bottle to hold up to the vacuum, not sure how thick the bottles you used are, but mine were some poweraid bottles if I remember correctly. It's normal to have to adjust the idle after.
I think that’s the linkage screw not air fuel mixture screw.
It's been a while since I made this so I'm not sure what part you are referring to. If I mixed something up I apologize.
Friends.
Friends forever
Amazing invention. Who needs mercury!
I have an old mercury one as well. I like this better.
If you read this and don't comment, I don't know if we can be friends anymore :(
Comment
ok fine ill comment so you can be my friend lol. got myself a virago 750, its my first bike and also a great platform to learn the mechanics of motorcycles. im watching every video i can about the virago to learn as much as possible. only thing i wish i had was a heated garage so i could work on the bike in the winter months. next thing i want to do is upgrade the headlight on the bike but not really sure what to buy for a good fit. theres a few videos with the 1100 but nothing showing the 725, i think the headlight is a different size.
@@HypnoticAbyss i found some for the virago when i was doing mine, but ended up using a harley one and modifying it to fit. I wish i would have started this channel back when i was working on the bike. would have had lots of how-to's and stuff. more to come on the bike soon enough though!
An Orange is an orange because its not yellow. If it was yellow it would be a lemon identifying as an orange. There's my comment,
@NitroMaximus lol
Bear urine 🤣
Cat urine works also ;)
Evan, might be a stupid question but where do you hook the lines up at?
