Thank you for sharing guys, great video......and that whale just pupping up what seemed at the most inopportune time, was awesome to watch from the couch.....I’m sure it stoped your heart for a few seconds 🤗🍻
What a wonderful island and people that are willing to share with you and others that visit their island. Great video and looking forward to your next adventure. Safe sailing.
As a child I dreamed of growing up on an island like that. Videos like yours make me feel like a kid again. I hope to sail there one day. Two years before my youngest graduates high school. 👍👍✌️
Hello Sailing Aquarius Around The World Crew, WOW, what an amazing video full of epic adventure moments. Going through the narrow atoll cut looked harrowing, lose power there, and it's curtains for sure. The whale encounter was a scary moment at best, OMG. It looked like the Whale wanted to scrape off some unwanted parasites from its' skin, or it was trying to sink y'all. What a memorable moment, love y'all.
If our engine stopped leaving it would not have been too bad. We were going with the current, and 25kts of wind at our back , so we could just put out the genoa and keep going. Might have been tough keeping Aquarius in the channel, but I think it would have been doable. If we lost power going into Maupiha'a it might have been curtains if we could not get turned around. Not sure what the whale was up to, but it did make for an interesting exit from Maupiha'a. Cheers!
WOW thank you guys love the respect and curtesy you show towards others Love the details of the areas great for future reference is ken planning anymore how to or don’t do videos. Stay safe guys have a great time WOW WILDOLDWEST
Hi Mike, thank you for watching! Of course we respect locals - they are very kind to allow us to explore they beautiful island! And yes, Ken is currently working on How to video about watermaker. Stay tuned ;)
Sailing Aquarius Around The World what do you guys think would be something practical that those people could use that we could carry on a boat that would make there life easier if we were to visit them I have always thought about that if somebody could list some thing they could use that’s not expensive and you know about space on a boat you got the toilet covered. I guess butt paper or do they have plenty of coconut husk
I don't think they very much concentrated on the toilet paper :D They appreciate food, like just she said: coffee, rice, beans, eggs, maybe nuts - anything that stores easily... And if needed I believe we have their contacts just in case if you would like to reach them and ask what they need at this point. On the technology side - FHS, solar, batteries are very useful
Very few - to our knowledge there’s a small black and bright yellow snake which swims - we saw it couple or times but it’s not aggressive and would bite only when defending itself and we heard her jaws are tiny so she could bite only thin area, but not your feet or so. Also there are poisonous trees but they are marked and I believe you would have to eat the fruits to get the effect but the ones we saw were marked and had a guarding line. I’m sure there might be some other poisonous things but not enough to make us worried. ☺️
Thanks for the nice comment! No it was Gone With the Wind. We are both in Whangarei now. Aquarius has been sailing with Gone With the Wind since they helped us get into Maupihaa. Nice to find great friends cruising! Especially those with over 20 years experience! Fair winds!
Little mistake at 1:26: given that 1 knot = 1 mile per hour, "6 knots per hour" = 6 miles per hour per hour, so that is an acceleration value :) Just being funny, I really love your videos, it is almost as if I were there!
As I watched your amazing video, I was at some points scared to death for you and at other times I was so happy to see your willingness to go to such great lengths to deliver those packages. Watching you spend time with the local families so graciously, was very gratifying. Keep up the good work. I'm sure those families were very grateful for your kindness toward them. I look forward to more of your videos!
Thank you Janice! I believe it's a mutual enjoyment and help - from us to locals and vice versa. They are such a nice, genuine people... When we arrive to those extremely remote locations we always wonder what locals eat and how they get by, but they always so happy to share with us (strangers) whatever they have... That is just so sweet and humbling experience...
I do like Aquarius, and I don't think I would to trade her for any other boat of her size.... Well, I might make an exception for a really nice Amel 54. I would not want a boat any bigger, or any smaller than an Amel Super Maramu... It's the perfect size for a couple sailing the world. Easy for the two of us to sail her (or one for that matter), big enough to carry all our stuff, and easy to maneuver in tight spaces. Henri Amel pretty much thought of everything when he designed the Amel Super Maramu 2000! Thanks for the comment, and Fair winds
We would love to! Unfortunately, I believe they are not in New Zealand yet (?) And when we were in French Polynesia they were behind us :( But they seem so much fun and I would be so happy to meet them in person. The catamaran in the video is called "Gone with the Winds" also awesome people :)
Almost all of the Countries stamp your passport when you check out. I usually ask them not to, because I don't want to fill up my passport with all the stamps.... Once the passport is full, you have to get a new one. They don't add pages in US passports like they used to!
I was referencing French Polynesia. I assume you headed west from Maupiha’a and out of the country. Did you get stamped out there or bora bora? Or Tahiti?we are trying to determine where we must check out at in the Society Islands
You will probably check in at Hiva Oa, Marquises and out at Bora Bora. If you are Americans you will probably get 3 months in FP, but not sure what's up now. That is not enough time to see FP!! Pre-Covid, you could still visit still visit Maupiti and Maupiha after checking out at Bora Bora. In fact the people of these small islands love the sailing community, and encourage visits.... Or, at least they did pre-covid. Too many changes in this world in such a short time for anyone to keep up.... Looking forward to watch your voyage on RUclips! Cheers, Ken
Hi guys.( This useless comment is meant to help my favorite sailors with their RUclips statistics revenue. RUclips factors in the number of 1: LIKE 2: COMMENT 3: SHARE .)
Hi Dennis, sorry to upset you, not our intention at all. We all share one planet and have to find a way to cooperate and live together. We have no intention to harm those beautiful creatures and still be honest and share with our viewers. In our video "A day on anchorage" there were about 3 whales who came very very close to us without us making any move. That was very strange but also magic...
coming out of the pass, not really any where to go there mate. No one would go at at whale, boat would be in danger and these sailors aren't that type. great vids thanks

It really did! Seeing so close and unexpected... Luckily I was there with a camera on!
Zivile’s encounter with the whale was very cool! 👍. Nice video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Another awesome video. Love how appreciative you are to locals , shows you're both good people! You can say catamaran, its not a curse word.....
:)) There were few catamarans in there ;) And the guy who helped us out was from catamaran too. Thank you for watching and your kind words...
Wonderful video, I loved how you associated and dined with the locals!!!!!!
It was very kind of locals to invite us into their homes for dinner! We had a great time on Maupiha'a! Fair winds
Your videos are so refreshing, all about cruising. Thank you
Our pleasure Barry, thank you for watching!
What a wonderful island and people that are willing to share with you and others that visit their island. Great video and looking forward to your next adventure. Safe sailing.
Thanks Ausbin! Fair Winds

The next Island, Palmerston, was just as cool as Maupihaa... Funny what happens when you have no expectations. Stay tuned! Fair winds

Thanks for sharing you guys.
Question: On these Pacific islands, are there any poisonous creatures like snakes/spiders/scorpions etc?
Very few - to our knowledge there’s a small black and bright yellow snake which swims - we saw it couple or times but it’s not aggressive and would bite only when defending itself and we heard her jaws are tiny so she could bite only thin area, but not your feet or so.
