Why doesn't code enforcement write citations to the city for allowing the sidewalks to get that bad? They should have had that cleared out long before it became impassable. If the city can't be responsible enough to maintain public sidewalks, they have zero business requiring residents to maintain their lawns. Thank you, Al and Kevin for doing the city's job for them. I cannot understand the police mentality. To me they appear to be licenced thugs. The bloke who professed to be a cop. Was dressed in casual summer wear and was holding a weapon in his hand, down by his side. No badge appeared apparently, none that I could see. The so called policeman question Al about what he was doing. I'd like to ask the policeman why he is holding a weapon in his hand, WHEN he could see Al cleaning up the walkway to allow people to go to the shops and not walk on the road. Shoot first then ask questions. I have to ask the precinct's boss what in blazers type of police are they training to serve the public? Also for an off job policeman in my opinion should have called the nearest station and asked a car be sent to see what was or happening to the curb area. I might add the area was a disaster by day and certainly by night. The policeman needs to be retrained in logical assertions. To be dressed like a bum or I'll be kind, more an off duty person and carrying a pistol, loaded or not, does not give peace of mind to whom he is questioning. I want to see Al and the bloke who offered to help fix a public eye sore and definitely a traffic hazard. The local council or road authority should have been chastised about their tardiness. Al and you mate, great job. Thankfully neither of you got run over. I wish well for your helper and his wife. May something wonderful come their way. 🎉🎉🎉❤❤

And why SHOULD the ones that let it get in the shape in the first place be fined when it's all about helping each other and not causing harm to others? We don't know why it got that way or the reason or what happen to the one who was supposed to be keeping it up. maybe they passed away, ever think of that? And most of all Al wouldn't have had any thing to share with us. This is something everyone can do... see something that needs done, do it. why do you all keep thinking someone needs to get in trouble? Al could have reported it to the city and made an issue of it. Like the cop harassing the man instead of letting the city know the side walk needed cleared. They could sent out someone from the parks department to clear it, after all they get paid by the taxes taken from the people. Al was the only one said I'll so it and not point to someone else to do it. He Just did it, while making a new friend.

@tacomamusic Exactly. People aren't really refusing to work *any* job. They're just sick and tired of getting used and destroyed for a relative pittance compared to what they make some guy sitting in a board room somewhere not sweating, getting cussed at, or spit on but saying "we" have to tighten our belts to meet a quarterly earnings target *he* set. No more paid hour lunch breaks. No more gold watches or training from the mail room to president of the company.
Now, it's layoffs and outsourcing and setting hours under 40 so you don't qualify for health insurance. Now, it's 2 people in the whole store, 8 self checkouts, and no cost savings to you, the customer. How many entry levels jobs are 0 experience? How many companies are training new people and providing a wage on which you can raise a family with one breadwinner?
A lot of people are willing to work hard. Kevin's out here doing it out of the kindness of his heart, for his community, and for himself. He's fighting. Doesn't mean he should be taken advantage of when he gets back into the workforce. Doesn't mean he shouldn't be able to pass on a job that doesn't pay enough for him to keep a house. That's not refusing to work. That's just survival and common sense standards. His choosing to work for no expected money shouldn't be used as a dig along with the "Nobody wants to work" catchphrase.

If you have mobility problems, you're lucky to find ANY sidewalk, most are broken, don't have cutaways to get on & off, end suddenly in the middle of nowherez ❤have no crosswalks, are overgriwb or there are tree roots that make them impassable.
Restrooms have super heavy doors in public places - healthcare facilities are the WORST.
Mobility services are extremely limited & orovate services are driven out by subsidized public services. Ramps to get on & off public transportation are a danger to everyine, they detect a standing a dult but not a small xhild or someone in a wheelchair.
What Al does, es9. here, is a true gift from God for thise of us who struggle with mobility, esp. if mpbility issues are compounded by severe pain as they are with me. And the DEW has decided thebopioid crisis is solely because ofnpain oatients so while addicts shoot uo on the street & no onenhelps them get free, pain patients struggle to ger very mild pain medicine. Many could still wprk and pay taxes if they could get the paintp ease off (chronic pain never goes away fully, it just eases enough to bear). Pain also causes fatigue, which makes the pain worse in a vicious cycle.
So Al, THANK YOU for this.
Scouts looking for a project how about foghting for handicapped friendly sidewalks in your communities? Gather support one sidewalk at a time, get petitions signed, submit to elected officials, post on social media, get other troops involved in your area. This would be community service as well and would be inclusive of differently abled people.

Amazing! It's a shame that the city lets it get to this condition. Shame on them for not maintaining a clear and safe access. So nice that the man pitched in to help. People helping people is what life is about. Well done, Al! 🎉 Sending the man and his wife good thoughts. 24:46

I’m guessing the Lord Almighty let it get that bad so Al could come across it and do what he does best and Kevin was in the right place at the right time as well. Be careful how you treat strangers. You may be entertaining angels unawares.

In a world where the homeless are harassed by government officials, and poverty or hitting hard times is punished by the attitude of the masses, you have stepped up and demonstrated how people should work together to create a better world 🥺😢My hat's off to you ❤ You are an incredible human being 🏆❤

    This is SO COOL, Al!
But actually, the best part of all is how this homeless man became your helper, a partner in your work.
That alone made both of you have a wonderful experience.
    Thanks again, Al.
