Hearing that paté is "French fine dining" is seriously the funniest thing I've heard in a while. French here. Paté is one the cheapest spread you can find. It's what students survive on when going dry nearing the end of the month.
The rest of the world see it as super expensive fancy snobby thing!

Like get over yourself he is correcting an incorrect statement made about his culture. I think they're confusing foie gras with pate. You can get a tin of pate for 1-3 bucks. Nothing special but delicious. I grew up with pate. And I like to go to European markets in my area of California to buy it.
To everyone complaining about them calling it a pork roll, its because all the vietnamese bakeries in sydney called it pork roll before Banh Mi and food culture became popular here. The name here has stuck and bakeries still refer to it as pork roll. In melbourne for example, its known as Banh Mi i.e what its called in vietnamese, hence the difference in names.
Strange the Vietnamese bakeries in Sydney did that - literally every other metropolis city I've visited in the world calls it Banh Mi. It would be strange for me to find an Indian restaurant selling Biriyani as Chicken Rice LOL. So odd.
I lived in Springvale Melbourne for some time and all the bakeries there called them pork rolls as well

Just because there isn’t a traditional carb (rice, bread, potato), that doesn’t mean there’s no carbs. As a Type 1 diabetic, I have to remind you that EVERYTHING has carbs.. even veggies!!
Of course everything has a little bit of carbs just like carbs can have protein, vitamins, minerals, etc. but grains obviously provide more calories per gram. Like u would need to eat a lot of vegetables to meet ur daily carb intake. At the end everything is gonna turn to glucose so there really isn’t an issue

The Vietnamese bakery I frequent about 2 hrs from Sydney sells “pork rolls”. They aren’t marketed as Banh Mi here, but that’s another name for them. We just call them what the bakery sells them as

Agreed- and that’s what I would consider a “bring from home lunch” bc that’s what I do every week! Two bagged salads and chicken last four days. But it’s definitely not carryout.

i mean i have to agree that pork roll looks awesome, crunchy vegs + maybe if the bread is a lil toasted, the protein is also there, though to be honest sandwiched does not fill me up very well especially good sandwiches cause i will crave for more lol
that 5.75 meal though, that chicken can last for some time in fridge and you just reheat it, for the salad, maybe just swap it with something, with little prep and you got like super cost efficient meal
although this requires prep which it sounds so minor, but it IS huge factor for someone as lazy as me, a prep is a prep you need to buy it in advance store it, and the next day you have to take it out prep it, not really snap and done thing

Cheap vegan eats in Sydney that have been around FOREVER...in the metro you can get veggie sushi hand rolls, cabbage rolls and banh mi. All simple but good.

Under $10AUD is sooooo cheap! U can't find anything under $10AUD ($6.70USD) here in NY. Some of the things at Taco Bell and Burger King are more expensive than that.

This was a challenge. It’s not common to find meals of this price, especially in Sydney. More common to spend $20-$30 on very basic lunch. Don’t be fooled by videos like this, the cost of living is high here even before Covid

This is per serve. That bag of salad costs $5.50, which is equal to NZ $5.97. and the chicken is around $11/$12. Cost of living is expensive here.

I complained about each of my lunches being 8-9 bucks when I realized the price it takes every week and month. Im terrible about a budget.
I think more doable and healthy lunches should be 4-7 bucks. I like to go to Trader Joes where I can get healthy salads and keep it under 5-6 bucks.
