@Fossil Diver Over 95% of burglaries happen without the owner even noticing. Less than 1% of crimes involve the victim using a gun to defend themselves, which doesn't even take in to account the rate of success. I'm 26 and from the Netherlands. And apart from police officers on their belt I've never seen a firearm in my life. Nor have I seen one been pulled. The idea that everyone has a gun scares the shit out of me, and I think that's how it should be.
I am french, and I can safely say that seeing people with guns SHOULD be shocking. It should be something that you notice instantly, because it's not a statement for more rights, it's a literal weapon that can kill at distance. Seeing police holding guns is fine because you know this is inherent to their job, and for some people it makes them feel safe (because oooh islamic terrorist under the carpets), but random guys with guns would be the most stressful experience of my life, like at any point any one that goes mad in the street can spread bullets everywhere and easily kill tens of people before being stopped. I guess having a gun at home is more acceptable idk...
I feel the reason why people in America are so obsessed with guns are because they're both weak and need something to feel more powerful and low confidence. They need something to feel above others so those same people won't notice how weak and fragile they truly are. That's just my take, I might be wrong or I might be right idk.
How childish. You're either projecting or just generalizing. People own guns because it is an effective means of self-defense from deadly threats. I don't care how tough you are. If you are trying to close the distance with someone who has a knife, unless it is a last resort, you are an idiot. That being said, people who are weak or frail have every right to own a gun so they CAN defend themselves. There's nothing wrong with being a weak person. For notable examples, most women, disabled people and elderly people won't do well in a physical struggle against a 30-year-old man with twice their muscle mass and capacity for brutality. But if a 9mm hollow-point can penetrate 16 inches of ballistic gel, it can kill the toughest person on Earth with one vital shot. It's called an equalizer for a reason. A 110-pound woman would get rocked by a man who's 270-pounds, but with a gun she can drop that scumbag before he has a chance to beat, rape, kidnap and/or murder her. And no, the cops won't be there for you when you need them. ACAB.
The most important reason though is because America is a hyper-individualistic low trust society. People are conditioned to see each other as rivals in the labor market, consumers who try to outshine them and potential criminals who will threaten their lives and property.
Americans argue about gun laws like they’re the only country on earth, “omg, we don’t know if guns are the issue, what would happen if we banned guns! Maybe the government will do a 1984!!!” While every other country figured this out long ago and is just looking at the US spaz out.

@@L4ck0Ski11 Right. That's why these rules are extremely important. Still, best to keep one in the chamber, especially for conceal carry. Funny how that happens without any guns, as I’m sure everyone knows, it’s more likely for you to have an accident with a gun with you or your kids or whoever than you actually need that/those guns for a home invasion or self defense type situation.
@Fossil Diver Over 95% of burglaries happen without the owner even noticing. Less than 1% of crimes involve the victim using a gun to defend themselves, which doesn't even take in to account the rate of success. Mind you these stats are from the *most* heavily armed country in the world.

I live in the Netherlands, you're damn right we call the cops if we see a guy with a gun!
I don't think it's fine. Police holding guns should be rare enough to be a shocking thing itself.
I feel the reason why people in America are so obsessed with guns are because they're both weak and need something to feel more powerful and low confidence. They need something to feel above others so those same people won't notice how weak and fragile they truly are. That's just my take, I might be wrong or I might be right idk.
That’s why I have a license to kiss my homies on the forehead
You aren't wrong.

Some general rules of firearm safety: Always know the condition of your weapon. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. Keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction. Know your target, what is beyond it, to the left and to the right of it.
@@L4ck0Ski11 Right. That's why these rules are extremely important. Still, best to keep one in the chamber, especially for conceal carry.
