Many died from drowning before they even got to shore. Many before they even shot their weapons. It truly was the longest day. God bless them all and the families they left behind.
My uncle landed on that day! He was wounded in Cain, sent back, recovered, and rejoined his unit and fought his way to Calais. There he was wounded again and sent home. He was one of the lucky ones. RIP brave soldiers. 🇨🇦 🇺🇲 🇬🇧
All those in the free world should visit Normandy and the crosses to realize the price that was paid by tens of thousands young soldiers so we could live free.
My great uncle was a belgian paratrooper in ww2. He fought in germany and liberated a concentration camp. He was shocked during his life by killing a german soldier with his knife and then realising that it was a child... He also liberated a concentration camp and wrote a poem on it after the war was end. It was a cruel war for both sides...
The great crusade Eisenhower due to his age and lack of combat training wasnt able to lead it however general sosabowski Two years younger did jump into arnhem! Theodore rooseveldt jnr did land on utah beach!
Just watched this movie the image was taken from. Highly reccomend it for anyone interested because it shows how much of a struggle and a slog it really was. Probably the most accurate was at the very end with a dead German, a crippled British airman and a lost u.s. soldier. 'He's dead, your lost and I'm crippled. I suppose it's always like that...'
FULL LYRICS HERE: Paul Anka's thrilling score from the film The Longest Day, one of the best war movies (and simply one of the best movies) ever made, with the lyrics sung by Mitch Miller and the gang Many men came here as soldiers Many men will pass this way Many men will count the hours As they live the longest day Many men are tired and weary Many men are here to stay Many men won't see the sun set When it ends the longest day The longest day, the longest day This will be the longest day Filled with hopes and filled with fears Filled with blood and sweat and tears Many men, the mighty thousands Many men to victory Marching on, right into battle In the longest day in history
Magnifique.
My Grandpa was from Morroco, he land in France with the Free French Forces the june 8, very proud of him
🤔 he must have been recruited after Pattons landing into Morrroco, interesting.
Long life to all who fought and fight for freedom! 🎈🎼💙💛
yep, this is a reminder that supervillans existed and superheroes gathered to face them.
80yrs since the longest day.

To all those who will never see another sunset 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇨🇦
The debt of gratitude we owe to all those who gave their lives to secure the liberty we enjoy today is truly immeasurable.

Hard time create strong man!
God bless them all ❤❤❤

Why would he confuse a child for a soldier?

How old was Eisenhower? He didn't seem too old to be kept from the front lines from what I heard
J'❤ cette musique ça me donne du courage...❤
No more war on this world please !😭
Very very old song but brings good feelings to me ! Love it.
It truly was a case of good....versus evil....
Um ícone do cinema mundial. Os atores, todos deuses. Não dá para voltar Às telonas?
Me too, I sing this song everyday, just my habit

Thank you for your words ❤
