Italian Equestrian here. Something funny about Thoroughbreds is that they adapt to Englands climate better than any other country (makes sense because they are basically an English breed after all). Over centuries Thoroughbreds were bred in Englands environment so their bodies bodies naturally adapted the conditions of the British Isles. I've been to England a few times and obviously went to ride horses there too. There is something very British about the breed im telling you... they are like English people. Red may have been bought up in America but he definitely has an English accent. I love riding Thoroughbred in England/UK it feels like they are part of their gracious island(s) and are ment to be there iyk what i mean, ha.
Im happy you stayed on! He definitely looked fast. I also never realized Red's never been ridden on your channel, you've talked about him and mentioned him before so i didn't even realize ❤
Omg thanks so much! ❤️ I actually had filmed 2 videos with him before but one time I filmed in time lapse accidentally and the other I forgot to press the record button 😂
I’m glad you stayed on!! A bit of a tip for when you’re approaching a jump, if you keep both legs on it makes a “tunnel” which all that strength channels to the horse!
Love your videos! I’m self taught and have been riding for four years. It’s so nice to see all the right and wrong things love how you show everything! You’re awesome keep it up!
For reds canter I see that you dont straighten him up before you actually canter, so what I would try and do to help him with his corners would be to have him trotting in a working trot down the long side and then when you hit a corner and you are balanced with a nice trot then canter in the corner it will help if you start of with trot and making sure you have him listening to your aids, other wise this was a very good lesson and you rid very well!!
Hey! I really like your content, you remind me that trainings are not meant to be perfect and learning is a process. Thats a really nice perspective, so different from all these equestrian influencers that have perfect horses and perfect riding. Your energy is contagious, even though yesterday I wanted to quit riding (for a hundredth time) today I feel new strenght to keep fighting for me and my horses career (hes a tough one to ride) Thank you!
Awww that makes me happy, I’m so glad that my videos bring a different perspective of riding for you. Yes riding is not always perfect! It’s hard work, and it’s tough and sometimes yeah it makes you wanna quit. But keep up the good work! I’m sure you’re doing great ❤️
Aaaa Clara! Today I had a lesson and I was walking over a small jump and at the end of the jump the horse I was riding went into a canter and my chest and head were an the horse’s mane for about 5 strides of canter till I sat back up to slow her down. 😅
Thanks so much! 😍 this is my first time dealing with fresh hroses in the winter, usually I ride the perfect Angel lesson horses and they don’t get super fresh ahaha
Red reminds me so much of this one chestnut tb paint mare at my old barn that was the main horse i would ride. she would always cut corners, raise her head for bridling, be wonky with jumps and refuse them by going around them
Aww I rode today too and did Christmas games with the ‘lazy horse’ and he was the best horse there walk to canter everything! (I think my most recent short would be a better explanation) you’re my idol!!
TIP!!! When steering example going to left open your left rein and push your right leg into the horses side not your heel like your calf helps a ton with balance with horses and yourself bc your moving there body over not just there face!!!!❤❤ so glad you stayed on 🎉
That’s interesting actually! I never thought to put my whole calf, usually my go to is my heel but thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely try this next time 😇
You did sooooo well Clara!! Its sooo amazing how much you have improved since your last ride on Red!! He looks sooo fun!! Winter definitely has the horses a but fresh at my barn also!! Even with Red being a bit fresh you rode sooo well! Ive had soo many of those close call falls before and it can be so scary!!! Red definitely reminds me of Koya! She also loves to rub her head on me after our rides! Luckily she not super big so she can't knock me over 🤣! Its seems like yesterday you just started jumping now your jumping verticals with fillers!! Im soooo proud of how far you have come! It so amazing to watch!! I say this everytime but your videos are definitely the highlight of my week!! I also have some very exciting news that I've been waiting to share with you! Last week I did my first vertical back after my fall!! It wasn't super big, but thats fine because I was SUPER nervous! But after the ride I had the biggest smile on my face!! I can't waitto watch you continue to improve every lesson!! Keep it up Clara!!! 🫶🏼♥️🫶🏼
Awww thank you sooo much! And omg no wayyy! Goodluck to you and your winter riding with Koya then 😂🫶🏻 YAAYY that’s amazing !! I’m soo proud of you ! It’s tough to come back after a fall, it can be so scary but I’m proud of you for doing it’s keep up the great week 🥰🫶🏻
1:57: stop we keep getting the Same saddle pad. When you got your hunter green one I also had a hunter green one and now I got the same coloured one and everything that you put on him rn! I ride a chestnut so the two saddle pads that I have are a good colour for chestnuts
My non horsey son was helping me put a briddle on a horse Zaffar who put his head up. He patted him on this head and said something like, "Come on, mate, put your head down." Amazingly, he put his head right down and let my son put his briddle on. Everyone at the riding school was watching with their mouths hitting the floor. I use this approach now with all horses that put their heads high. I just patiently wait for them to put their head down while I stroke their heads. I'm pretty short, too. My son is 6 feet tall or so. See Michael Peace approach.
Awhh he's gorgeous x I'm so late to the vlog because I'm at a sleepover at my friends but it's with he other friends I don't know and I am kind just sat in a corner but ye. He looks like a fiery ride lol! But fun 😝 I say this every time but well done, you did absolutely amazing even if he was fast and a bit hard to ride ❤ I can't really type a lot since I'm at my friends but ye well done ❤
I thing I do when my horse doesn’t let me put bridle on is teach him how to lower his head and when I put the bridle on I put by arm between his ears and grab the bridle with that hand and the bit with the other. (I hope that makes sense)
Well sat Clara! I just wanted to ask, I’m a young rider and really struggles with confidence while riding. Do you have any tips on how to just get back on and get on with it? I love commenting on your videos as I know you always comment back, thanks queen 🤍
Oh girl I feel you on that, as Nike says, “just do it” 😉 LOL but on a serious note, that’s pre much it. Cuz when you do it and do it successfully you’ll gain confidence, but until you have that confidence it can be very scary but you gotta just have faith in your skills and know that your trainer would never ask you to do something that you’re not ready for. So have faith in your riding, and keep trying ! ❤️ hope this helps
the same thing has happened to me where i got off balance and landed on the horses neck i was so close to staying on but than the horse started bucking and i fell
Aww red is so cute and you Clara your such an amazing rider and you and him look good together and I love when you match with the horses and can you say hi to them for me and merry Christmas clara ❤
When the two girls went infront of your jump 😭 Can’t blame them though, they didn’t know where you were going, which is why it’s important to call out the Jump with different riders in the Arena
Just wondering if it bothered you because it seems from all your videos that a lot of people don’t really know how to share the arena, and they kind of get in the way of your riding, I’m not blaming this on you AT ALL, just wondering if you guys have learned and had lessons on how to share the arena because sometimes there are clips that make me really nervous that y’all are gonna have a freak accident because of the whole not sharing the arena properly thing, but aside frome that I LOVE YOUR VIDS!!!!!💕💕😬😬
Yesss we have been taught how to share an arena, but it can be difficult sometimes with a full lesson and the indoor arena is quite small. We know that etiquette but it doesn’t always happen! We are working on it 🥰🫶🏻
Hey Clara, can u send us what it looked like when u almost fell off red from another pov. I just want to see what it actually looked like from the others pov. Thank you And I love all your videos!😁😁😁❤❤❤
hey, I noticed this during your video and I have no clue if this is something that your horse requires. But I did notice that your girth was on the wrong straps. It is supposed to be on the first and third and not the first and second. I thought that this could be a minor mistake but if this is something that your horse needs, then I am completely wrong and I sincerely apologize!!
OK, as I advanced into the video, I am totally not trying to be like a TikTok trainer, but my horse has the same issue as red. And I noticed how his shoulder is being blown towards the inside meaning his corners are going to be cut quite a lot and just a tip to fix that problem is pick up your hands and pull them to the outside both hands not just one but guide them across his neck and apply your inside leg and it will work wonders. Always remember to sit back while you do that though. Red looks like a lovely horse and reminds me so much of my own that I used to have so if you do apply these tips, please let me know if they work thank you!!
It actually doesn’t matter whether it’s on the 1st or 2nd or 1st and 3rd. My trainer thinks 1st and 2nd is more comfortable cuz if you put it on the 3rd that’s kind do where your leg goes but in terms of functionality of the girth it does not matter
Yes Red bulges his shoulder big time! Shabaka o much for the tip 😇 I don’t get to ride red too often but next time I do I’ll definitely give this a go! Thanks so much 🫶🏻
Does your trainer always say to always grab the mane when jumping? If she is then that’s not how you should be jumping at all. You should simply push your hips back and then your hands follow forward slightly but everything below your waist stays still
That’s actually not true ! There are two different types of releases, one grabbing the mane and your hands will follow through with their neck. The other is the one you’re describing, with hands beside the neck. For beginners who are learning to jump you should always grab mane cuz you’re not balanced enough for the second type release. Especially when riding horses who are a little more green you most definitely want to grab mane, you do not want to catch the horse in the mouth. It’ll give them a bad experiencing when jumping. For both of them of course you are pushing your hips back, that is two point tho, not the type of release.
@ that's so interesting to know!! In my country we have always learned it the second way and never heard of the first one as begginers always get taught with the second one but thats so cool and a great way to learn!
"Come on Red please" its so sweet the way you asked him politely to stop
I was desperate at that point 😂

Especially when riding horses who are a little more green you most definitely want to grab mane, you do not want to catch the horse in the mouth. It’ll give them a bad experiencing when jumping. For both of them of course you are pushing your hips back, that is two point tho, not the type of release.
@ that's so interesting to know!! In my country we have always learned it the second way and never heard of the first one as begginers always get taught with the second one but thats so cool and a great way to learn!
