  • At the Teldex recording studio in Berlin, Sarah talks to two world class recording engineers, Friedemann Engelbrecht and René Möller, about how music is recorded and what the challenges are today in our digital world.
    Sarah Willis is a British-American French horn player. In 2001, she joined the Berlin Philharmonic, becoming the first female member of its brass section.
    She was born in Maryland, USA and grew up in Tokyo, Boston, Moscow and London. At age 14 she started playing French horn and then attended the Royal College of Music Junior Department in London, UK. She studied full-time at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, UK.
    In 1991, she moved to Berlin, where she became Second Horn in the Berlin State Opera under Daniel Barenboim.

    Is the first 14-second of horn a theme music written for this DW series? Or is it an actual piece? It sounds Mozart-inspired to me

      You are quite right. It is Mozart!
      It's the
      Trio for Piano, Violin, and Horn in E-flat major K. 386c: III. Rondo. Allegro
      The nice horn melody is in the very last part of the piece.

      @@DWClassicalMusic Thanks. It's good to know my ears didn't fail me =)) However I thought K.386c was a quintet without piano. I didn't hear the opening horn melody.
