I had a thought. The hypothetical reason that Risen elders are so much more powerful is that their unique abilities killed the Qurio infecting them and allowed them to retake the refined life energy crystals back, amplifying their power... Notice how the blast from entering Risen form is like the blasts from Gaismagorm?
for anyone struggling, teostra's blessing makes a huge difference, I'd recomend going for that rather than poison resistance, since at level 3 it completly prevents you from being poisoned, and at level 4 he can't steal your spiritbuffs, so you can gather them without fear of it making him stronger. it also gives a buff to fire attack, wich he's pretty weak against, so that's an extra plus if you go for a fire build
This guy absolutely kicked my ass, this makes me fear for the next risen monsters.

I have only attempted to take this foul beastie on twice joining randoms and it resulted in failure each time so do you get anything special for defeating it

According to the lore risen elder dragons are elder dragons that survived the afflicted state so these are essentially an afflicted elder dragon
So we might get a Risen Shigaru instead of Gore (since there's a afflicted Gore)?

There's an afflicted Gore shown off, and Gore still isn't considered an elder dragon if I recall.
So maybe the affliction doesn't do anything to cause some form of Chaotic Gore to happen, but considering Shigaru is in, I wouldn't be surprised if Chaotic was added later.
The trailer said they've overcome come the afflicted state so I wouldn't say that all they did was *just* survive. The Elder's were strong enough to adapt to the qurios and make it their own power. Maybe they trained or some shit? lol
I feel like Risen monsters are even more dangerous than anomaly monsters when we couldn't think they could get any more dangerous

RIsen monsters are an Elder Dragon only state. They are elder dragons that have survived the Qurio and formed a symbiosis with them.
Apex monsters are monsters affected by Ibushi's wind storms so not related to Qurio at all.

Risen Elden Dragons are like the Arch Tempered Elden Dragons. They are powered up monsters not new monsters.

It isn't a NEW monster. It's a powered up monster. Like Tempered from MHWIB or Apex Monsters in 4U.

@@WhatNow505 still a dissapointment this is literally the second big update and it was still underwhelming although the changes this update brings is a good improvement but you can't tell me we're getting a new type of monster without a cutscene and saying it feels satysfying the trailer made it seem like we'd get more story from encountering risen monsters

Doesn’t get a cut scene, armor that’s barely any different scale wise than the original, Only one material specific to him, lackluster fight, and to top it all off no weapon. Major disappointment all around.
