    I picked up a TCL Roku 50” at Costco in 2019. Generally pleased with it, but it’s gotten very slow in the last year or so. RUclips TV is almost unusable. I added an Apple TV device and its a night and day improvement in terms of speed. It’s a shame because I like the Roku interface and was happy with it.

    I bought a Spectre 4K dumb TV, and hooked up the devices I wanted, and if the box/stick becomes outdated it's cheaper to upgrade than replacing my entire TV, plus it's easier to switch inputs, and I have more legacy ports for older game consoles.

  • @moej6014
    @moej6014 Год назад

    I have a 65" TCL Roku TV. I really like it.
    Cons:
    Live TV 90 minute pause/rewind buffer (using a USB thumb drive) and TV Guide don't always work. The live feed doesn't drop, but I cannot change the channel or pause/rewind unless I go home and reselect Live TV.
    Audio is TRASH! Apps like MAX push a lot of dialogue through the center channel and I had to turn the volume up to like 50-70 to hear people talk. Then an explosion happens, and it's loud af. I purchased a Samsung 3.1 sound bar with a center speaker (I know sound bars aren't great, but I'm happy with it). With ARC, the TV will turn on and adjust the volume of the sound bar. Only time I need the Sound bar remote is if I don't turn on game systems in the correct order.
    Only 1 HDMI slot is high refresh rate. I picked up a Monoprice Blackbird to run all of my game systems to 1 HDMI cable so that I can have the higher refresh rate on all devices. Pick HDMI on TV, wait a few seconds, turn on game system and the sound bar switches to HDMI on it's own (sometimes the sound bar doesn't and I use the remote to change to HDMI).
    Remote ended up not working. Bought the voice one and haven't had a problem.
    Pros:
    It works fine. I'd buy it again if I had a chance.
    Pretty cheap (but most are now)
    Free streaming channels on the guide (I know LG and Samsung do as well)
    Remote control phone app is nice
    A lot of apps available

    I run Roku on all three of my TVs. One is a hinex Roku TV, one is a Apple fire TV with a Roku soundbar pro, and the third is an older Vizio Smart TV with a Roku box (I'm not sure of the model of the Roku box or the Vizio. The Vizio is kind of dumb for a smart TV. I think it's about 7 or 8 years old).
    Anyway I like all three. The Roku interface is fairly easy to use. I use RUclips TV as my mainstreaming platform, and also subscribe to several other a la carte streaming channels.

    I would like to see an episode on what is the best TV TUNER for use with an antenna that is built into the TV.
    The internal tuners on some tv's aren't very good. Hope I explained what I mean by this.

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 Год назад +1

      If ATSC 3.0 ever gets sorted out, you will need an external tuner anyway, so just buy an external tuner for. ATSC 1.0 instead of a whole new TV, as I don't think he will test that many TVs to find a good tuner as that's a lot of money and time for a video that won't make it back for him at his current viewer count. Also a good antenna is more important in the overall setup. Antennaman channel can help you out on that front as he's tested a bunch of them over the years.

    My RV came with a Roku tv and it was a really good tv, so I purchased a 55" Roku tv because it had great picture and very good price. Fast forward a year or so and now it will not play sound on several different streaming platforms like Max, Netflix, and even sometimes Prime.
    I have to reset tv and change sound settings to get it to work whenever I go from one service to another, even when the settings are on Auto.
    When I stream through my Xbox or Firestick there are no issues whatsoever.
    I have contacted Roku and have updated tv with latest available, even with a USB drive to no avail.
    This will be the last Roku tv I will buy.

    No way should you go with a Roku TV. You get what you pay for and with a Roku TV, that isn't much. Buy a decent TV and get a Apple TV box.
