      I play euphonium, and I think the range is also amazing. The euphonium is really a French horn if it was shaped like a tuba.

      I've been playing for a few years. It's worth it. You'll realize just how hard it is in a month. Keep at it! There is a reason why French Horn is considered the god instrument. What his is doing is very important. I'm taking time to address and improve. My range is pretty wide. Be detailed with how spend your time with your horn. Good luck!

    Very nice demonstration Mr Lloyd. (Disclaimer: I don’t play any brass instruments, but the horn has long fascinated me.)
    There were several instances when you were demonstrating the exercises where you played concert G2, 1 1/2 octaves above middle C (I forget the pitch assignment on the horn). Is that pitch supposed to be the physical limit of the horn’s upper range?
    In a respective context, the Broadway cast recording of Tommy from 1993, there is one movement featuring a solo in the range of a piccolo trumpet, and the only brass instruments in the orchestra are French horns. Is the horn physically capable of being played in the piccolo trumpet range?
    Edit: Additionally, is it really “singing” or just humming?

    • @hornkraft9438
      @hornkraft9438 5 лет назад +1

      It helps to specialize on french horn and not change to other instruments. Trumpet players sometimes try to play horn and although they can get a great high range, their tone is often brittle or bright. To improve your tone, consider playing long tones to relax and strengthen your embouchure. Listen to professional recordings of horn players to absorb the sound into your mind and mentally copy it. Read the Farkas book, The Art of French Horn Playing, for a chapter on it.

      AW I know that feeling! Have you gotten better? I hate making mistakes especially when it comes to performances lol but really, dont be too hard on yourself. The key to higher notes is blowing faster air through a smaller opening (aperture) . Just dont pull your lips apart or spread them when trying to play higher notes because trust me, it sounds thin and bad! *DONT SQUEEZE YOUR LIPS TOGETHER EITHER!*

    would a shallow cup mouthpiece aid or inhibit flexibility of the extremes in range?

    • @andrewhale337
      @andrewhale337 6 месяцев назад

      A shallow cup mouthpiece is pretty much something reserved for use in the extreme high register, and in most cases would inhibit any flexibility needed to jump around in the registers, especially into the low range! HOWEVER, there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule!!! everybody is different: different lips, embouchure, way of blowing & using pressure (some positive, some negative!) so it is possible that a shallow cup might work for some individuals in all ranges!🤷🏻‍♂️
