Many years ago I was decorating brothels behind Kings Cross with my estranged dad & had left my keys in my van - Kelly (she was in her hard drugs phase at the time) walked passed & let me know & we had a long chat about her dad as I knew him from being head bouncer at The Astoria. 🤩👍

I worked the Astoria for a number of years with a well established firm at the time (Topguard Security). Lenny was head bouncer down the road at the Hippodrome so I think you may have your wires crossed. Maybe he went on to become the Astoria security as my boss and a few other collogues went on to become Oasis secutrity/bodygaurds so had other interests. My mate Johnny Waldron beat Lenny twice and although I have never heard this disputed it is also has never really been acknowledged. Unfortunately John has alzheimers now and I have not seen him for a number of years. I would love to of got him on James's show. Dennis Andries damaged his eye and John had his licence revoked for health reasons so took up the unlicensed side. Getting back to Lenny, Richie Anderson was a good pal and associate and provided support when it looked like there was going to be some sort of off when he did the famous Shaw fight. As for Barry Dalton the man was rocking the boat big time and had it coming from one direction or another eventually.
There’s a big mistake here, at 7:02 the interviewer mentions “Lenny’s abusive stepdad Jimmy Spinks” and Kelly agrees that’s him. Jimmy Spinks was Lenny’s great uncle, a kind man, who Lenny’s mum called on when Lenny’s brother Raymond was severely beaten with a belt by the stepdad. Spinks, a well known local hardman, came round and beat Lenny’s stepdad half to death and said if ever he had to come round to protect the children again he would give the stepdad “a face like mine” - Spinks had scars all over his face from street fights throughout his life. Lenny’s stepdad was called Jim Irwin, an evil man who beat Lenny and his brother severely as children. I know all this as I’ve read Lenny’s autobiography ‘The Guvnor’ several times.
I can relate to a lot of what Kelly says here...I grew up in a kids home run by Barnardo's...I was abused...I have self harmed tried & to kill my self on more than one occasion...still living with suicide thoughts.... I have to say what a wonderful woman... so open & honest with such strength of character...it's very obvious where she gets that from...I really want to thank her because she has given me hope....I have watched this video for the 4th time now...your Mum & your Dad would be so proud of you...I have the upmost respect for you Kelly...Best Wishes...big love to you & your family... tc sweet...bless ya xxx :)

Lenny was a gentleman provided you didn't take the piss. He had such a presence and on the door he was the Guv'nor. I remember him on the door at Cairo Jacks in the Westend he was a big old unit.
Yeah go to any popular pub or club on the weekend you're always going to have have some people causing trouble so you need people like Lenny who are a bit scary and intimidating after all they're not going to behave because some polite bloke with a lanyard tells you that your behaviour is unacceptable

I used to go to the Music Machine in Camden in the early eighties and Lenny was the door, he was strict but fair and he saved my Punk arse from a bunch of NF Skinheads one night and let me in free, an absolute legend.
I was a big lenny fan after reading the guvnor but after a lot of research a lot came to light of him being a bully, big time. His daughter obviously sees him with rose tinted glasses but he did take a lot of steroids, you can tell if you have any knowledge of gear. His kids jamie and kelly know the truth, know he was a violent guy even to his family but they need to keep his legend alive. Family loyalty.
