Khalid Mahmood is contesting from Birmingham's Perry Barr, a seat that he has won since 2001. In 2019, he won this seat by over 15,000 votes. However, the anger on Gaza may adversely impact him as well even though he sounds upbeat about his victory.

One thing I've learned, ppl who prepare for interviews and anticipate questions, have a tendency to lie cos they're prepared. But ppl who are asked a question which they did not prepare for, they tend to speak the truth. So Starver, there is no turning back. You exposed yourself.

Khalid Mahmood had represented Birmingham Perry Barr since 2001.
He was beaten by Ayoub Khan, who polled a small majority of about 500 votes, with the Conservative candidate finishing in third place.
Repeating the picture in Perry Barr nationally, Labour has lost a number of former strongholds to independent candidates campaigning on pro-Gaza platforms.
Mr Mahmood dismissed the suggestion that Labour's position on the war in Gaza had been responsible for his defeat. 🙂
The only reason that this politician agreed to an interview with Rifat is because Labour is concerned about loss of votes. Labour won't do as well as predicted.
Human rights lawyers do not misspeak on issues of human rights. Especially one that is a King’s Counsel Barrister. Their job is to put weight on the words that they speak. He meant what he said at the time. It does not mean he means it now or the day after but he definitely meant it then. It may well be that his position on the subject was one that was reached by coercion or bribery or in order to bring about support from a certain faction of society. There are many reasons why he said what he did at the time but he most certainly said it and he most certainly meant it.

If this sort of attitude is going to be what we see if labour get voted in, I actually think things will deteriorate and our country be in a worse situation.
