How much did it cost to build my Dream Shed? | Would Tuff-Shed Have Been Cheaper?

  • In this video I break down a bunch of the different costs associated with building my 10 x 16 barn style shed. This is a fully finished little building, some would call it a she-shed, man-cave, tiny house, or cabin - I'm just really happy it's done and I'm happy with what I spent. I also compared my build costs to what it would have cost to order a pre-built shed from Tuff-Shed with very similar specification. Let me know how much you think it would have cost to pay someone to build this - that's something I don't know.

The really difference that I think people need to consider is just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. with that being said, I brought a prebuilt shed to get a jumpstart on the project and construction and not have too many months before completion of the build but I think people need to consider time money and reason if you have the time and money to do it yourself do it yourself obviously, you can do better work with greater quality but if you like me and don’t have the money upfront and have to finance things the prebuilt is the way to go

An impressive project. I live in the lower Hudson Valley in NY. Have bought sheds in the past through Sheds USA (was a company out of NH that was bought by Tuff Shed). Pricing on sheds and nearly everything else as you know has sharply increased in the post Covid world. We recently purchased another shed through the company that Lowe's carries (don't want to mention name but is based on a ❤). Service was terrible still going back and forth with them on some things they failed to do that we paid for, additionally they didn't center it in the stone foundation properly along with some shoddy assembly. Anyhow we have almost $9,000.00 invested in a 10'X12' barn like shed they call the Estate. The site was not level off by nearly 25" we used a reputable Amish company that charged about $2800. for the site prep looks very similar to yours the area was 12'x14' to allow for some space around the shed. They specialize in site prep, barn and garage foundations and did an excellent job. You guys built an awesome space to be proud of for decades at an amazing price.

I’m at 5600 without drywall right now (with foundation of sono tubes) so without siding you’re right where I’m at except mines 12x22 , not bad at all!

Also in terms of how much to build it , I had my buddy bid doing mine for me if I got all the lumber was $5500 to build. his price if he showed up with a base already done and he bought the materials - $17,xxx
Mind blowing but great work if you can get it! Seems like that’s 2x material with $5500 labor.

Super nice Karl! It's absolutely beautiful. You have a lot to be proud of. Quick question - did you use anchors to anchor your shed down? If so, what type, and do you show this in one of the videos? I discovered your series and am getting ready to build a pad for my 10x12 shed. I'm going to use Tuff Shed and add some of my own options but I will use your gravel pad video as my guide.

I actually haven't added anchors yet. I am planning to but I haven't chosen them yet. If I do I will make a video about them.

I haven’t watched all the videos yet, so sorry if this is answered elsewhere. Did you design and draw this out yourself? I will be building the same size, but where I live, that is well into ‘you need a permit’ land. I’m trying to figure out how to get drawings I can submit to the city. Creating drawings that the city wants is well beyond my knowledge set, so I’m trying to figure out that step.

In my area the size 10x16 doesn’t need a building permit but a 12x20 does.
Is that why you chose 10x16?

Those pre-made sheds are not nearly as well built. You made a good decision doing it yourself.
