For me this album was the end piece of a beautiful trilogy. From Cilvia to this album is a uprise, decline, to finding a in between in life to where he is comfortable. Cilvia was him getting into the game and being not only vulnerable but also ignorant to reality, The Suns tirade was the tragic decline of his drug/ alcohol abuse with depression and writers block. Now THIB is literally that meme Mike mention of that dog in the house on fire, he found his composure and found his comfortable place in his mental. Even when things are fucked up around him Isaiah is at peace. That was I took from this album, AOTY contender for me
Being a similar age to Isaiah, and going through a lot of the same problems(minus the fame) made these albums a fucking blessing to have in my life. This man's music expresses being functionally depressed better than anyone/anything. It's more than music, these albums have been therapy to men of our generation.
On me, I aint fuck with Mick Jenkins’ Pieces of a Man at first and then I went back to it one day and realized I was hibernating on that album for a minute…
Its crazy how true this is. It took me 3 years of listening to sun's tirade to end up liking every song on that album and about 2 years for cilvia demo. Even before he announced this newest album I kept going back to a few songs from those previous albums that I didn't like and ended up loving. He is a weird artist, very unique among southern rap niggas
They can clown on Feefo but he kind of right. It’s his smooth style, but an extra kick or bass thump makes it a hard Zay track. Hey Mista for being pretty mellow goes pretty fucking hard
Feefo is completely right. There’s the mellow, floaty synths with the hard drums and bass like in Headshots. These other dudes like Ken and Myke have no clue lmao
Yoh was kind of on point, the sequencing does make the album become slower in melody. It becomes almost numbing to the ear. The same thing that some drugs do to your brain. The House thats burning is isaiah’s mind, and the flame is the drugs
Yeah lol. Suns Tirade is waaaaay more melodic and less rappy than THIB imo. I thought that was his singy album. THIB a combo of Cil and Sun imo, not too rappy not too singy.

I see the consistent Memphis samples as rashad directly acknowledging his influences and upbringing but slurring it through this sludgy lens of depression, tying to the themes of fighting between surrendered to the flow of life or pushing back
"The House is Burning" has been the decided name for the album way before the TDE drama so while Rod's theory is interesting it doesn't really hold too much weight.
the drama he’s talking about is like mental health, addiction, and drug abuse. just everything isaiah was struggling w in the 5 year hiatus and before that made him take that hiatus.
I think we have to consider the almost defiance to talk about his struggles in the past 5 years a theme. The fact that the songs are so mellow and blissful, the lyrics hardly mention his very public battle with alcoholism, writer’s block, going broke, etc - and the very intentional mixing of his vocals and the use of distortion on his voice throughout the entire album to hide his vocals and lyrics… I almost see a theme of unwillingness to be vulnerable. Like they said in the review, an acknowledgment that your life is going through a turbulent time but you will not open up to outsiders about the trauma you’ve experienced, either out of pride, delusion, or just your own self preservation. Putting on a brave face even thought you’ve been through and haven’t quite gotten over the trauma yet
The House is his mind. Think about the things like his drug addiction. The music was inspired from his addiction to drugs and the experience of being high but also having things like paranoia thus the hook for THIB but when your high tend to have paranoia so the House is mind and the album sequence is basically the motion of being High and then coming down. Hence the mellow vibe he gives off
The convo at the start of HB2U was one of my favorite parts of the record personally. That whole idea that you dont know if theres something waiting for you after death hit hard, especially after the record addressed mortality so intimately. Like with dont shoot and headshots. Its like your life could be cut short at any moment, and all you can hope is that theres something after it all.
After a lot of listens i think this album is a reflection of his 5 year hiatus. “The house is burning” represents his life falling apart due to alcoholism & drug use, and how he was just chilling during that period of time. Majority of these songs were written & recorded all throughout these 5 years which is why he sounds heavily intoxicated on most of these songs. The hidden track in “HB2U” is a depressing sort of victory lap. “You are now a human being” represents him realizing he’s made it out the fire but his struggles are still there, but the future is bright. The “House” represents his brain and his path to finding clarity through solely just accepting the chaos.
Actually he said in a couple interviews that he started making this album in 2019 and was completely sober for all of it. What changed is he freestyleld on almost all the songs cause he was going thru writer’s block til he went into Kenny Beats cave and was inspired off Kenny’s catchphrase “Don’t Over Think Shit”

I thought Suns Tirade was okay until I heard it about 3-5 times and it was crack, probably the same gonna happen with this. Rn I think it’s cool but the flows gonna catch me and bring me back soon I already know lol
I agree with Feefo, there are ‘hard’ tracks on this album. Wat u Sed, From the Garden, RIP Young, 9-3 Freestyle, Chad, and the two singles (Lay with Ya) (Headshots) all give ‘turn up’ energy.
It’s been over a month now, and i have to say I love this album 5 times more than I did originally. Even the last part of the outro that I thought was weird at first. I could see myself bumping this along with the Suns Tirades for years to come.
I love Zae and yeah there are a few solid joints, but I personally couldn't get with his monotone, lackadaisical, repetitive flows. He always been smooth/laid back and is great at making records with a certain level of ambiance, but I just cant think of any bars or flows that make me wanna come back. Definitely some dope beats for sure..
Don’t think it was that wild of a take. Maybe he just misspoke. The album definitely has knock to it even if the songs aren’t aggressive or grimy. I think that’s what he means.
Lmao yeah he’s got a point with the madden point. I had this on while playing rocket league and I was dropping so many ranks I had to switch to city morgue and Denzel to climb back up.
As chill/mellow as this album is, its his darkest piece of work to date at this point in his career. To me his music videos for this album is the main story and there's a order his music videos should be watched including 200/warning in order to fully grasp the idea the album gets to. And to me.... THIB is such a hard song. I still don't believe no one understands how fire that song is. Like to me thats the best song on the album. Dude... That flow he used, the whole way through and his delivery is so perfect on that song. He literally was telling a story completely mindfucking you with everything he's saying. Like bro, go check out that song. Idc if he sounds chill on that song, he's not chill on that song. Headshots and rip young is more up the alley of truly mellow and comfortable both sharing the same sample. From the garden is... Well... Yk?... His coming out song... Lol(idc i still love his music, and he's not truly gay gay. He's bi). Chad was a vibe song. Almost feels like TST song. Lay wit ya tho. That song is way more important than i think its supposed to show. Watch the music videos in this order after the listen to the album. I promise you'll thank me... Music Videos in order: 1. 200/ Warning 2. Lay wit Ya 3. From The Garden 4. wat u sed 5. CHAD 6. THIB 7. Headshots I placed headshots after THIB due to the similarities in vibes being so psychedelic and atmospheric tones between each other in a way. I could be wrong. But this album is conceptual. My favorite songs on this album 1. Geodran's Favors 2. THIB 3. Darkseid 4. Headshots 5. RIP Young 6. Hey Mista 7. All Herb 8. Don't Shoot I still don't know where to place this on my list of Zaywop projects, however I do believe this album is his most personal one and every song is supposed to sound like its own flame. Just how I saw it. If anyone feels like they'd like to add to this comment express thoughts, that would be amazing. Feel free to lmk whatever your thoughts are about this album.
This album rides so well in the whip, I agree outside of track two it's a pretty chill record, but man it just flows so well, I didn't want to stop drivin til the album was finished...

THE YOH is back?? This was a treat. Thanks 🙏🏼
I wanted an album of songs like bday and tity and dolla. That’s basically what I got and I’m super happy
“IF THE HOUSE IS BURNING, RELAX”
Seems he is in a happier stage of his life so, I loved the mellowness of the album.
I thought Suns Tirade was okay until I heard it about 3-5 times and it was crack, probably the same gonna happen with this. Rn I think it’s cool but the flows gonna catch me and bring me back soon I already know lol
For me It goes TPAB, then THIB this album is for every type of hip hop fan. This to me is TDE's second greatest album.
I agree with Feefo, there are ‘hard’ tracks on this album. Wat u Sed, From the Garden, RIP Young, 9-3 Freestyle, Chad, and the two singles (Lay with Ya) (Headshots) all give ‘turn up’ energy.
Amazing review🔥🔥 super in depth and attentive
shout-out to Yoh! 🔥

YGTut has a dope ass album called Preachers Son that Feefo and Ken should review!
This was so great. Thoroughly agreed and enjoyed!
Definitely some dope beats for sure..
loved hearing yall thoughts on this
Would wanna hear ours too?
I've waited 5 years for this!
Was it worth it
Glad to see Yoh in this vid
love the closing comments
This is a classic example of an album you can’t listen to once and form an opinion.. give it 5 listens and you’ll become a bigger fan each time.
Always look forward to what yall review. Been a minute since we had some Zay and I was excited for this video
best way to describe this album, to be comfortable in an uncomfortable situation. another masterpiece by isaiah rashad fr
Big vouch for Preacher's Son mixtape. Super dope and if you like Zay you'll probably like him
Don’t forget the G35 track
yo nice pfp
what a dope conversation about a dope album. Yoh really did come through and make it extra special on this one.
I’m glad y’all appreciate mellow music..like not everybody needs to be loud and aggressive… some of these reviews on RUclips don’t understand that.
Diff folks
Diff strokes
Yep. Fantano tends to criticize most mellow hip hop
Great review! glad to see yall enjoyed this one!
You enjoyed the tape as well?
It was a good album to me. Zay is just a vibe and he seems more happier overall now. But the best song on the album is HB2U. Plain and simple! 🙌🏾🙏🏾🔥
Zay bringing the music for the vibers. Everything this kid does hits. Whether it’s hard, slow, smooth it always hits.
Feefo be having some of the WILDEST takes lol hard hitting where? Lol
Don’t think it was that wild of a take. Maybe he just misspoke. The album definitely has knock to it even if the songs aren’t aggressive or grimy. I think that’s what he means.
@@VividEquation I wasn't just referring to this time lol
Purple Ribbon All-Stars dropped Kryptonite when I was in 3rd grade. THIB gives me that same feeling.
Its the house bitchhhh.
Wish TUT's verse on Chad was longer, RIP Young goes dumb hard too
Lmao yeah he’s got a point with the madden point. I had this on while playing rocket league and I was dropping so many ranks I had to switch to city morgue and Denzel to climb back up.
I think yoh's right. I think of this album as a Rashad's definitive self titled album
Music Videos in order:
1. 200/ Warning
2. Lay wit Ya
3. From The Garden
4. wat u sed
5. CHAD
6. THIB
7. Headshots
I placed headshots after THIB due to the similarities in vibes being so psychedelic and atmospheric tones between each other in a way. I could be wrong. But this album is conceptual.
My favorite songs on this album
1. Geodran's Favors
2. THIB
3. Darkseid
4. Headshots
5. RIP Young
6. Hey Mista
7. All Herb
8. Don't Shoot
I still don't know where to place this on my list of Zaywop projects, however I do believe this album is his most personal one and every song is supposed to sound like its own flame.
Top tracks (as voted by DEHH) - RIP Young (4 votes), Lay Wit Ya (4 votes), From The Garden (3 votes), THIB (3 votes), HB2U (3 votes)
Another reason for the tone of the album. This is the first album Isaiah recorded sober and not being under the influence of alcohol like the previous two projects
