I saw Moonraker in the cinema when it first came out, in fact to this day I have kept up an unbroken record of seeing the Bond movies in the cinema on their first release. I remember seeing this in the Scarborough Odeon and whispering to my mother "That was Close Encounters of the Third Kind".
Apparently Albert Broccoli asked Steven Spielberg to use it because he had been very impressed by Encounters. He later returned the favour by authorizing the Bond theme's appearance in The Goonies. Legend has it that when Spielberg asked him he complained "mine was only five notes". Steven used it anyway, correctly assuming that he was being tongue in cheek.
Me and a friend just had a discussion about how few notes you can get away with and call something music (We watched "Bubble" before), and he just linked the "Close encounters of the third kind" song, and I was all like "Hang on a second, I remember this! IT WAS IN MOONRAKER!"

Funny I'm watching this movie rite now. Paused and had to research to see which movie came out first. Close Encounters of the Third Kind 1977 James Bond Moonraker 1979. Still not sure the significance. Researching that next. 🇵🇷🤘🏾

I saw Moonraker in the theaters as a kid. This scene was a hilarious suprise. Most of the audience were laughing including me. Close Encounters and Moonraker came out the same year so it wasn't suprising.
It’s my favorite bond move. It’s got literally everything. The absurd bond movies are always the best because they’re not trying to be something they clearly can’t be like the modern bond movies.
Albert Broccoli asked Spielberg if he could use the theme for the keypad and he said yes, years later he granted Spielberg permission to use the James Bond theme in the Goonies
Yes, It is the main melody of the movie Close encounters of the third kind (Steven Spielberg ). The artist who composed this piece is John Williams (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, E.T. ....). This tune is not only a part of soundtrack, but it is also an important part of the story because in the movie tones and music is the common language between humans and aliens.
Legendary moment in the history of cinematic genius
Indeed epic!
I love that noise
Did you know that it's a reference to the movie: close encounters of the 3rd kind?
@@DION3ON I didn’t thank you for telling me

In the theatre, I recall the entire crowd laughing at least the first of three times. Immediate recognition.
Can't believe it, it's the same melody fragment as used in Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind :-)
…yeah that’s the joke
They used to play this sound effect in Yankee Stadium in the 90s
This completely flew over my head when I first saw this.
I’ve never seen Close Encounters. There. I said it.
Oh man...how have you not ever seen the most ep....I haven't either
I don't know you but you need to watch it tonight
Goodnight Mr Bond
RIP
will never forget this tune, asked if they could put it into the shop keypad, still waiting
My dog loves to hear this
Yeah, make the system play the sequence aloud so anyone could replay it. Very secure

I just put this and close encounters together after watching the family guy spoof.
This is so damn funny
Old bonds legend movies and much better than newer
i think „easier“ is the word you‘re looking for.
Awesome.

This also plays in minions 10 the rise of Gru when Kevin presses the buttons on the password panel🛸
I'm dead sure that sound is sampled from a Kraftwerk song from 1978.
The lock combination appears to be 12589.
Which song is that?
but close encounters was 1977...
The code is 12589 just incase someone was curious

Two years apart

The sequence of these five notes is a tribute to Spielberg's film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"

12589 is code
Why is this sample also in the 6th episode of the 2nd season of Project blue book. Is it a famous tune?

what was there a shortage of sound effects? Foley editor strike?!?!
No. Spielberg actually gave Cubby Broccoli permission to use it (as Broccoli turned down his offer to direct Moonraker).
@@WedgePee And rumors are Cubby Broccoli gave Spielberg permission to use The James Bond Theme in The Goonies (1985).
