  • Toyota Land Cruiser 150 Prado was given a facelift. New rear lamps, new headlights, new grill, refreshed interior. There are also new safety systems, like adaptive cruise control, new infotainment system. The Land Cruiser Prado is often used as a family car doing school runs. On the other hand Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the best off roaders in the world. So how does it fare on the road, and off road?

    7 years later and 9:05 that recommendation hasn't aged very well.
    The Land Cruiser has depreciated to a lesser extent than the X5, mainly because Toyota really knows how to make cars for longevity. Reliability issues in all BMW and many german models from all manufacturers keep me away from them when looking for a car in the used car market.

      I found one 2014 pretty cheap...only problem is that is has only front seats. I wonder if rear seats from 120 fits in a 2014 model? I could not find any online info about the cabin dimensions.

    Honestly speaking that is why these vehicles do so well in countries with poor infrastructure, because after a while one gets really tired of constantly dodging and soothing potholes on the road with smaller, monocoque chassis vehicles, instead you buy a body on frame & reliable vehicle such as the Prado and vualla, you just glide over them with no much fuss. Trust me after a while that floaty feeling becomes such a nice feeling in a poorly done road!!!
    Good review though!!!!

    I feel like you are comparing it to a sports car.
    It’s a 4x4, not a Ferrari. It’s going to have body roll, it’s going to be soft and comfortable on road, and it’s going to sound a little bit like a tractor. I don’t want 0-100km/h in 3 seconds, I want to be able to go anywhere.

    i dont know what you have there but mine gets 9-10 liters in city and 8 on long roads and it has great suspension i think and its really fucking reliable

    +Luan Freire It looks like a cross between Asia Rocsta and Toyota FJ Cruiser. Is it a Brazilian design all the way, or does it have components from other car manufacturers?

    2016 model which I have just bought is very different. The 2.8 and 6 speed is very different and even good on motorways. Furthermore if you spend more and buy the Invincible model you get clever suspension which stops rolling around while cornering and other advantages also. The main point about these is that they are tough. This is why they use them in Africa and Australia a lot. A Range Rover would break in no time. No, not very economical on fuel but that’s not what it’s about.
    I love mine which is pretty good if you have been driving a BMW 6 Grand Coupe.

    Hi Marek, I like your reviews and humour but you didn't say anything about crawl control or show this vehicle's spectacular off-roading abilities.
    Granted, the BMW X5 is better on road, but that's not really an SUV. It's just a massive car. There's a reason why the UN and some militaries around the world use the Land Cruiser as an army vehicle: reliability and protection of the occupants. It would be hard to imagine people inside this car being seriously injured in most types of accident.
    I don't own one of these btw, but I do like them.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 9 лет назад

      lapamful Yes, apparently crawl control could have got me out the mud, says Toyota. My off road companions prefer the rope ;)
      I'm afraid it's hard to find the right sort of terrain to fully demonstrate the capabilities of the car, especially when you're filming on a budget. Truth is I left this review unedited for 8 months, because I wasn't fully satisfied with it. Now you confirmed my doubts.

    • @lapamful
      @lapamful 9 лет назад

      Marek Drives Yes, finding the right terrain can't be easy. But I'm sure for the majority of customers thinking about buying this car you answered their questions. As you said most people won't be off-roading and will be buying this SUV for safety for their families or just posing in a big car.

    another honest review, i think it managed quite well off road considering the tyres didn't look suitable for that terrain
    ... and i really didn't need to see a panda's butt crack at 1:35 lol :)

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 9 лет назад +1

      altern8ive True, these were not proper off road tyres. Moreover Toyota claims the car would have pulled itself out of the mud pit, if I used "Crawl Mode". But my off road experts have no patience for cars with buttons, so they brought in the cavalry ;)

      +Marek Drives Probably you also need to lower the tires air pressure in order to have a bit more grip.

      Nicolae Nick On sand definitely, in mud I'm not sure.

      Well, have a look on how people in Australia go off road and you'll understand.

    Worst review ever, you cant go driving in heavy mud with road tires. I think you will be better off reviewing Ferrari's and not 4 x 4 vehicles.

      One tries with what one is provided with by the carmaker. Press cars are usually on road tires.

    Come now Marek, you have a great presenting style but please create your own scripts. The sequence, metaphors and impressions are directly copied from Carwow's review of this vehicle. Dont ruin your reputation. Best of luck.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 5 лет назад

      You're probably referring to Carbuyer, as carwow didn't exist at the time. TBH I've only now watched Matt's review of this car. I see the terrorist reference caught your attention. Well, if you watch any Middle East terrorist related footage chances are there's going to be a Land Cruiser or a Hilux involved. It's just the association people make.

      Was hoping you'd leave it there and not try to defend a position - but in the spirit of good journalism. Here is a short breakdown of obvious similarities following the exact order...
      CB:22 / Faclift, differences net headlight, new grill
      M: 54 / Facelift, lamps grill
      CB: 43 / Dash, infotainment system etc.
      M: 1:00 / Dash, infotainment system etc.
      CB: 1:00 Rear seat review
      M: 1:25 Rear seat review
      CB: 1:27 Back bench and boot
      M: 1:34 Back bench and boot
      ** At this point I just skipped ahead at random, there are just too many similarities... I think you get the point. **
      CB: 2:30 Ladder frame construction, followed by explanation of frame vs monocoque
      M: 2:30 Ladder frame construction, followed by explanation of frame vs monocoque
      CB: 4:48 The drive is agricultural
      M: 3:30 Drives like a tractor
      CB: 5:35 You don't drive it as much as you captain in
      M: 7:03 It's like sailing a boat
      etc. etc with lots of filling in between.
      Coincidence? Maybe - a big maybe ;)

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 5 лет назад

      It's a facelift. It's got a newer bumper, infotainment, etc.
      There's also no surprise it drives like a tractor. Let's say great minds think alike. Or not, because it you watch some of my more recent reviews, they will often be very different to what everyone else is saying, which leaves viewers baffled.

    The soft ride is indeed an upside.
    Also, cabin noise in the Prado is low enough to warrant a mention.
    Thank you for the review. I always appreciate your honesty and humor.
