I got a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago and got to take my uterus home (with cervix and fallopian tubes still attached). It's now in a jar in my living room as decoration!
@@littlestolivetree9426 did you do it ? if so how’d it turn out ? i would LOVE to keep and preserve my placenta !! but i’m super nervous about ruining it lol
Hi, awesome video! How much formalin did you use for the placenta preservation in total with all the replacements/refilling (injecting, fixing, final preservation)? Rough estimate
Helloo, I am about to preserve something similar like this video, a goat's digestive tract. It is for my school project. I wanted to ask for advice and tips in preserving it. The materials I have available is 37% Formalin. But I have no idea on the container to use for preserving it, whether they are jars big enough to contain it. Should I also have a custom made container?
the choice of container will depend on how you would want to display your specimen. For a school project, i am assuming a good, aesthetically pleasing display to capture the eyes of your teacher (and friends) is an important factor. If so, you might wana make a diy fish tank thats tall enough to sort of hang the specimen in its entirety. Otherwise, if you want it supercoiled without the need to display every part properly, then you can just use a big mason jar or something similar, ofcourse with a tight fitting cap.
@@TheSingtangpaScienceGuy oohhh thank you so much!! Another question about the formalin part, I read an article about preserving bird specimens " Full strength foramaldehyde (=100%) is 37% formaldehyde. Thus, if you purchase full strength, you will need to dilute it 9 parts water with one-part formaldehyde. " Since the formalin I have available is 37%, then I follow the instruction about 9 parts water and 1 part formalin... Is the solution now ready to be injected for the specimen and also for the storing process? Or is there another buffing procedure I need to do?
@@totallynotnorman4393 yes i have covered this bit about formalin concentration in another video ruclips.net/video/YiP4PZEjO7M/видео.html at 0.21 . 37% Formaldehyde = 100% formalin. So , to make a 10% formalin, take 1 part of 37% formaldehyde (100% formalin) and mix with 9 parts of water. Although for permanent preservation for museums and such, its highly recommended to use neutral buffered formalin. But i wont be so strict about whether u use buffered or unbuffered for something like a school project. If you insist on using buffered formalin, you have 2 options. 1. If you have the buffering chemicals in hand, follow the instructions for preparing bufered formalin as given in my video (the link i pasted at the beginning of this comment). OR 2. Just buy readymade 10% buffered formalin on amazon.
Hello again, I just submitted our project, you and this video were a big help, we got a tin of compliments for our project. I would love to show the project to you (if I found a way how)
The final product has to be perfectly dry in and out for casting in resin. Or else, the fluid within the specimen will slowly evaporate over time and cause pressure buildup and potential explosion having nowhere to escape. Wet specimens to be cast in resin need to be freeze-dried at least. Thats what i know (not experienced). You can experiment with it though. Time will tell. Tiny specimens may not be an issue dry or not.
@@gopikakrishna2910 yes the method is the same for brain. Make injections at several points with the preservative fluid. Isopropyl alcohol is not recommeneded for longterm storage. Either use Ethanol or formalin whichever is cheaper and more easily available.
"Doing it for someone else" part, i can, irrespective of commission. But not as a business, as in, i can't and won't go through the trouble of shipping it.
Hi. This video targets an international audience. And since i'm familiar with only ecom sites hosted in my country, i deliberately didnt include links. But i can say this: you can find pretty much all the supplies needed on your country's amazon domain
Sorry i have no idea. I suggest you check out facebook groups "Wet specimen preservation techniques", "The Dead Collectors", "BT-Beauty of the dead" and ask your questions there. Goodluck
Yes, all my 3 foetus specimens have been generously donated by our local hospital and the clinic where my wife used to work. Unless they are forcibly procured without consent of the parties involved, they are legal to keep especially if its for educational purposes.
Hi thanks for asking. Yes she is very much fine and kicking. Fortunately she escaped the pandemic without getting infected. And no post vax complications whatsoever
For internal organs (including membranous structures such as a placenta) it is not an absollute must to inject although its highly recommended to be always on the safe side by injecting, and thereby minimize any chance of damaging your specimen.

That's interesting that they give you the placenta back.
Thank you, I plan on doing this with my placenta next month. Much needed help
Where can you get this done. I want to do this.

Can the final step be put in resin instead of alcohol?

where do we buy the formalin
You can get it from your country's amazon.
I bought mine from my country's amazon.in
I’m curious if it would be okay to freeze the placenta first?
No problem. You can freeze it until you get all your supplies together.
Thank you your video give me a lot of.........
Amazing!
Thank you 🙏
When you do fixation, do you store it at room temp for the time? Also do you know how much formalin And alcohol is needed for this procedure?
Room temp is ok. Amount depends on the size of ur specimen. During fixation,
Beautiful 😮….
Can we use the same method on brain? Is 70% isopropyl alcohol better or 8% or 10% formalin?
