Yeah it's been a hit or miss with OTAs once you're rooted... I've only gotten it a handful of times and by the time I've already updated via the factory images anyways haha

Yep! You'll be just fine! I might look at getting a Pixel 4 again later this year, but right now the process is still the same. It's just that you might have to use the canary builds when Android 11 comes out.

My question is do I have to do the March update and then the April or can I go straight to the April update? I don't want to screw anything up. I'm used to a OnePlus. Pixel 4 does not have SD card, /sdcard NOT FOUND.. can you just copy the files to some internal memory folder ? Pixel 4 does not even have a SLOT to ADD sd card ?
wow, i tested the command either way, and it push the file ok.. where to ? idk, my phone does not have SD card.. yet some how the file got push over to my phone internal memory
/sdcard is actually a symbolic link to where the internal storage is mounted, probably to help with backwards compatibility or something along the lines of that. You saw that I have a Pixel 4 in the video so it's not like some bait and switch! 😉
I can’t get past the skip reboot update and now my phone keeps going back to fast boot it goes to the point where it says “google” but then goes back to fast boot... please help or give a way to contact someone to help me thank you

Just found your channel. I bought a pixel 4 and its motion sense isnt supported in NZ which is a real bummer. To fix this I saw a guide but has to be rooted. Will the phone be completely normal to use afterwards and is Magisk safe? Im about to follow your guide.. nervous
Not completely normal in a sense. If you check the FAQ, firmware updates will need to be done differently and some apps might not function properly whilst rooted. What do you mean by Magisk being safe? As in won't harm your device making it unusable? Or the legitimacy of it?

I have a rooted Pixel 2 XL, but I didn't receive the June update using the system update setting. It keeps showing up to date. I assumed that rooted devices don't get official updates, but how is your Pixel 4 XL able to get the system update notification? Do I need to do anything extra to get it to work? I already have magiskhide enabled...
I rarely get those notifications to be honest. I only get them during the developer previews/betas, or right after a factory reset. You shouldn't need to have anything special done, but then again, why aren't we getting those updates via the system updater... I have Magisk Hide enabled too, but even on newer versions of Magisk, a clean install will not enable it by default either.

I also had to install a different version of magisk first with diag port enabled before updating to the latest magisk - long story, needed to do it to enable volte on an unsupported carrier in my country. In previous times before, when nobody else has been able to help, you have, reason why I have donated. Maow, in this case I keep getting a "no valid slot to boot" message upon completing the final step of flashing the magisk boot. If I patch the unpatched boot image it will boot.

What version is your fastboot executable? If you type fastboot --version, does it give you a version at least 29? If not, or that's not a valid command, you're using outdated version of the platform tools. Grab the latest ones as mentioned in the video.
Hello, after I finished ROOT for a period of time, I once turned off the phone and recharged it. When I turned it on again, MAGISK showed that it was not installed, and the APP that was already ROOT was not available. What should I do?
Have you tried rebooting again? Your phone didn't happen to do any updates did it (although it shouldn't be able to). Otherwise, flash the patched boot.img again (or repatch it if necessary).

Try the update command again, if the issue still persists, you might have to juggle around different USB ports and cables. Try to only use USB A - USB C cables too!

Interesting! If you flash the stock boot.img does the screen touch work again? Try flashing the factory images again if this issue persists. Make sure you're also patching the latest boot.img in Magisk Manager as well.

This tutorial helped me the last few months but this time something messed up. My phone won't boot after I flash the patched img ( it comes to the G but then turns black and tries to boot again) when I flash the normal boot.img it works fine but without root then. How can I get it to work?
What kind of modules did you have? It could be something form there that's causing it to bootloop. Magisk recently had added to it Safe Mode detection: github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/commit/a5d7c41d209527fe7b45a2ef7d031add9b6fad24 I'm not sure if that feature made it to 20.4, so you might have to use the Canary builds to patch the stock boot.img to ensure we have that feature. Flash the newly patched img and then boot your phone into safe mode. Apparently you can do that by holding Vol. Down when the boot up animation starts, so I presume after the orange bootloader unlocked warning screen. support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/2852139?hl=en See if that helps! Although I'd try booting without doing the safe mode business first if you do try the canary builds of Magisk.

The new module was one by smali patcher. I already tried the adb command to remove all existing modules. Still the same issue. So is it even worth it trying the method you suggested?
I think so, the ADB command requires your phone to stay on long enough for it to do it. I'd give it a go because its not invasive at all and it'll be quick to find out if it works. Give it a few goes in case it didn't boot into safe mode. Otherwise you'd be left to try one more method before wiping your phone (to get rid of all the modules).

Not much really, but since the full OTA and factory images are almost the same in size, I choose to download the factory images as they are more versatile (its got the boot.img that I need, and if I ever need to restore a single partition, it has got all that). I prefer more control so I use the images and fastboot, and I personally find it easier to do this.

The system is mounted as RO in Android 10. You may have to use the App Systemizer (Terminal) Magisk Module to achieve what you want to do.

Not that I know of unfortuantley. But you can force a slot change: fastboot --set-active=a/b

Is that under the Google Play System Update? That is different from the Android security patch level.

How do I do April update
Same as this, but just use the April factory image.
What's the difference between using your method and just sideloading the ota downloaded here: developers.google.com/android/ota
Not much really, but since the full OTA and factory images are almost the same in size, I choose to download the factory images as they are more versatile (its got the boot.img that I need, and if I ever need to restore a single partition, it has got all that).
