System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, The Offspring, Sublime, these were our protest music of the nineties and 2000s, and then we added Green Day and sometimes Muse with their album on 1984. My father joined the Army to go to college and medical school as an Army doctor, and Mom still worked two jobs to support us as well. He climbed ranks so that his kids could go to college without loans.

I'm guessing you're doing live recordings to sidestop some copyright claims, but is it possible to do the official music video for Sugar? There's a lot of context added by their choice of visuals and symbolism.

I know you're reacting to the Live versions but you have to see the video to BOOM! in your spare time, filmed while out protesting the Iraq war with members of the public.
Great band and a lot of fun to watch in concert, I was blessed to hear Prison Song in concert before it was released and it was amazing in concert, that same concert I caught 1 of the 2 drumsticks that was thrown to the crowd, It is tucked away somewhere but I still have that bad boy! Has thier name imprinted on it, and I believe it was the off hand stick (left stick if he's right handed) because I found the person with the other stick at the concert and it was shredded in the middle for about 2 inches of the drumstick down to half of the diameter of the stick, whereas mine was beat up and dented but did not get shredded.
My favorite version of this song is the SNL version. They made them take all of the "fuck"s out for TV, so Daron just screamed "FUCK YOU" where he normally screams "Freedom".
Watching your face as you can see your mind exploding with the message is real time is great. Whenever I introduce people to System of the Down this song is always the one that causes the same reaction. Their message is so strong and real paired with phenomenal musicianship. Great great great band, just wish they were still togetger.
I figured it for Desert Storm in Iraq in the 90s. They used to televise bombings as they were happening, watching SCUDs beamed into peoples' homes. Bill Hicks actually did a bit on it in his later specials.

Stumbled upon your videos yesterday and I just wanted to say that I really like how you react to the music. You reacted to a lot of bands in the past that were and are still important for me, like Alice in Chains or SOAD. You are always so respectful and it really feels like you honor the music and the musicians. Hard to find words, since English is not my native language. Let´s say " I really like you" :) Thank you!
SOAD is as conscious as RATM, just a lot more cryptic to the casual listener (except on Prison Song). They're all of Armenian decent, and they incorporate themes of Armenian culture, including their folk music, particularly in the vocal style, but also the history of their people. I've jokingly called their style "Armenian Folk Metal" for years.
I'm old enough to remember when SOAD was lumped in with all the other mediocre nu-metal bands like Limp Bizkit. They were on such a different level, and are the only major band in that genre to really stand up to the test of time

Run the Jewels is the heir to this level of awareness. Song: "Walking in the Snow"
Reading the lyrics+intelligent commentary and understanding the message=instant subscribe
The album is a production masterpiece, the combination of these guys and Rick Rubin really made one of the greatest and most unique albums ever.
Rick Rubin has been destroying rock bands since the 90s, but he does a good job once in a while. He's a phenomenal producer, but man if he hasn't single-handedly sterilized a lot of great bands with his style.
@@CraigKeidel bro what are you talking about
@@ext93 Every time I see Rubin is producing an album by an established band that hasn't worked with him before, it's always an over-polished, super compressed pile of garbage.
Just fire, great reactions, cool to see someone finding and really getting the trip with SOAD
Loving your delve into SoaD. Hopefully you watch the official video in your free time. It really is a work of art. 😊
I appreciate your vids a lot . Its great to see someone who probably wouldnt have heard this stuff otherwise give their take on the music i love . You sir are very well spoken and get what the artist is saying . Thank you friend . I enjoy your stuff .
I'm guessing you're doing live recordings to sidestop some copyright claims, but is it possible to do the official music video for Sugar? There's a lot of context added by their choice of visuals and symbolism.
He has said that's the case. he also said he plans on going back and listening to the studio versions (I forget if he said in his free time).
Agree.....He listens to the studio versions off camera. I believe he said he bought The Toxicity Album so yeah, he's paying attention and diving in
SOAD rabbit hole as been a lot of fun, your enthusiasm is priceless
I recommend that you listen to Holy Mountains or I-E-A-I-A-I-O to hear the variance and power in Serj's voice. Their best protest/political song imo is BOOM! I know you're reacting to the Live versions but you have to see the video to BOOM! in your spare time, filmed while out protesting the Iraq war with members of the public.
Holy Mountains=Legendary 👍🏼
FUCK YES
Watching your face as you can see your mind exploding with the message is real time is great. Whenever I introduce people to System of the Down this song is always the one that causes the same reaction. Their message is so strong and real paired with phenomenal musicianship. Great great great band, just wish they were still togetger.
"Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine" is the Nuke tests from the 50s in the NV desert.
I figured it for Desert Storm in Iraq in the 90s. They used to televise bombings as they were happening, watching SCUDs beamed into peoples' homes. Bill Hicks actually did a bit on it in his later specials.
@@CraigKeidel Considering the fact that 1, They actually turned some Nuke tests into high society observer parties (from a safe and comfortable distant bunker, ofcourse),
and 2, That one of the terms the pentagon uses to measure radiation is litterally in "Sunshine Units"...
I'm thinking that Mr Davies might be closer to it. Not that yours is wrong either. Could even be both...
@@metatron76 Fair enough, I didn't know they had nuke parties for the rich. Not surprised, though.
¿Pourque no los dos?
It can be about both, in different measures.
@@obiwanpez the more things change, the more they stay the same, right?
I've jokingly called their style "Armenian Folk Metal" for years.
love your reactions g, much more nuance than seen in others.
Awesome 9mins and 38 seconds worth of content, Yes¿
I knew that you would love this one. Great reaction! 🖤🤘
This is great, but studio version you REALLY heard the song in detail
I Blew my speakers on this one!! Love U Man !
I just hope you would react to Korn once you are done with SOAD
I haven't heard this since I was a teen. It was fun to hear it again and see someone watch it the first time.
I'm old enough to remember when SOAD was lumped in with all the other mediocre nu-metal bands like Limp Bizkit. They were on such a different level, and are the only major band in that genre to really stand up to the test of time
love to see your videos man, you know your stuff.
Yeah serg is allowed to fly, it's a bit hard getting anywhere from New Zealand where he lives most of the time.
Getting to live in NZ was a huge problem for him because of this though.
I love your reactions so freakin much. This journey is one of my favorites.
I'm pretty sure every member of SOAD is on multiple government watch lists.
I'm becoming more and more of a fan of this channel...keep going on your metal journey the rabbit hole goes deep
