Sam has been upping his game recently…. Better eye contact with camera and better preparation. Still not quite the same chemistry as Michael, but he is getting much better
Michael genuinely looks like he is giving his opinions rather than just agreeing with Christian on everything they talk about. It seems pointless having someone who says Yeah / Of Course to pretty much everything that gets said.
I'm not sure why several outright fashion brands got air time, squeezing out some genuine watch brands. We could have left almost the entire D category out and have been none the worse for it.
yes strange choice of brands to rank... but then I thought about theo and harris website and offerings, and realized that it is a fashion-first podcast (minus the fake)
Just so you guys know, BVLGARI was started by Sotirios Voulgaris in Epirus Greece, who left Greece during the Ottoman Empire and opened his first location in Napoli then later opened their first store in Rome. The Greek spelling for his name is Voulgaris, he Latinized the name to Bulgari ( BVLGARI) The company was acquired by French company LVMH and the Bulgari family own 3% of LVMH .
That's fair and awesome history. If we were to be devil's advocate though - do you think the brand would be the same if they didn't move to Italy and have all the Italian influence?
@@christianellopm No, if they would have stayed in Greece he would have just been a village jeweler. Greece was too poor at that time and we were still under Ottoman Rule in some parts of the country . It was destiny for them to move to Greece .
Hi T&H - fan and Patreon subscriber here. Thanks for all you do and thanks for your integrity. Of all the people who had anything to do with The Thing in the watch world, I admire your going down there, taking one look at the situation, and leaving and not going back. Smart.
I like some of their models, but to me they're like Panerai - I really don't get why they'd be considered meaningful. And them declassing others along with Casio is just ridiculous. xD Very enjoyable video nonetheless! I watched from the beginning till the end engaged. :)
Missing some brands I would be interested in like GO, Grand Seiko, etc - on the JLC thing, imo the problem with the price hike situation is the brand has been woefully behind the curve - the prices have been absurdly low forever compared to the other watches of the same quality and heritage - bad brand management for way too long and now they are trying to fix it which is painful. They should have been keeping pace with smaller increases for many, many years. Probably have more comments, but I am still watching - enjoying the content.
I think, instead of folding, Cartier should’ve just gone to Citizen and/or Casio for help. They do solar watches, and have been in this game for over 20 years. Maybe it would not have been “Swiss mad” watch, but it would’ve been a good watch with technology that actually worked in it
Name me a big release by Bulgari this year. And I'm not a Rolex fanboy but Rolex had a pretty amazing year by their standards; the Daytona Le mans Paul Newman dial was exceptional. And they started putting clear case backs on their watches. Come on guys, do some more research. Especially you Michael - you live and breathe watches but didn't know about the Longines release? Lol😅😅😅
In 2023, Raymond Weil's Millesime Sector dial watch won the Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) Challenge Watch Prize. For that alone they at least deserve to be a C
This was incredible. Really gave me the feel that not only is there such an awesome online watch community, but that there is such an amazing OFFLINE watch community. The fact that a video like this would be relevant to so many just made me realize there are others out there binging all of these channels. Cheers😊
a bit confounded by your criticism of Breitling's marketing, I see their marketing all the time, much more than other brands. Made me want to buy one (which I did). I love that they have actual pilots and astronauts as ambassadors and promote them properly. I don't care about Brad Pitt or Adam Driver (but others definitely do) but Charlene Theron was an inspired choice - one of the coolest women in the world (cf. Mad Max and Atomic Blonde). They are also regularly on podcasts such as A Blog to Watch (best watch podcast out there in my view).
It's pronounced Raymond WHILE, not Whale 😂 it's not even some crazy foreign name cmon guys. I have one and love it. Well made, nice materials, and affordable. Much better than a Tissot but not quite a Frédérique Constant.
Tudor B for sure this year, great credit to Bulgari but Longines had an S year, can't leave out the 39mm zulu time (in titanium too as of this week!) Rolex also had arguably the best watch they ever made with the Le Mans Daytona. I agree on Raymond Weil but have to admit I may be eating my words next year, they have some exciting stuff recently
When my nephew turned two a few months ago, for his birthday I gave him a Casio LA11WB-1, which is the smallest variant of the venerable F-91W. He can't tell time yet, but he insists on wearing the watch constantly. For about $20, no other watch comes close in value for price. And so the next generation of watch collecting is fomented.
You guys going back to the main set at some point or is this the new digs? Loved the depth and the color, shelves etc of the previous setup. This has moose lodge vibes 😂
That's the first time I absolutely agree about a watch ranking list, like 95% of your rankings. Breitling fully deserves A with the Chronomats and Longines as well with the new Conquest series. Well done.
Oh, wait, Lange, but now in gold, bleah. Rolex, but now in gold, wow. They bought Bucherer, guys. That's what they did better then everyone else. And as usual, they are just better at selling.
The Lange argument is interesting, I feel that innovation is definitely a plus but is it a requirement on a yearly basis for haute horology brands like Lange? For an industry that measures its history in century’s, not decades. Does a brand like that need to have a hot new thing each year. I don’t think so but I see the argument, especially in a industry with as many options as watches.
I’d love to see a - maybe live - episode with you guys and a bunch of other watch RUclipsrs (nico, effing time guys and the watch finder dude come to mind) doing a rating thing together. Watching you all arguing your ratings out I have no doubt would make for an entertaining Christmas special since there’s some polarising opinions out between you all. That said it might also be carnage and never realistically work.
Ulysse Nardin has a lot of great watches. Freak, The Hour Striker, The stranger, The Sonata Etc… The UN Marine Chronometer ( UN118) 43mm on a rubber strap is one of the best spots watches out there.
Christian….you are absolutely dead on with the Breitling btand. They had an excellent year with their releases this year. For example, the pistachio dial is absolutely a beautiful watch.
You guys crack me up: 1. Casino & Bulgari God tier. 2. Micheal:" Oh sorry, I wasn't listening, I just let you go on that one." 3. Yeah we visited A. Lange & Sohne in Germany this year, we rate all your watches as S-tier, but what have you done for us lately? Lets put them in B. 😂😂😂
Great video guys, but I think for the thumbnail you should feature the tier list more prominently with the actual company logos instead of specific watches. Creates more intrigue and makes the video pop more when scrolling through that RUclips feed. just a thought! 🙌
Glad you gave Bulgari a nod. Only brand I think got dropped a line is Omega, some great movements at their price point and a nice history. Definitely would swap them with Tudor or Tag.
Great list and nice video, but what about Hamilton (defining American culture), Grand Seiko (pure Japanse culture) and Oris (independent Swiss company with unique designs and movements)?
While I agree with you that UN is a “B” brand, the Freak is an “S” watch guys…. It’s crazy-cool! Very Interesting, innovative, and tasteful at the same time.
It's SO interesting to see how new generations are attaching such a cache around Casio when I was there in the 70s and 80s when everyone at school had all the Casio models that are being revered so highly today.
Michael…..disagree about Zenith that they were a little boring. Look at the latest Kelly Grren dial. The Aaron Rodgers watch. It’s absolutely a stunning dial and also sought after timepiece. Honestly…..you should do a review on this watch. Possibly, this will change your mind. Let me know your thoughts?
I love my G-Shocks but just like Nico...when you put Casio in the "God-tier" section...everything becomes arbitrary. However...I do think your list is much more balanced then Nico's.

I’m just amazed at your lack of respect for Seiko’s history and you just shirk it off as a watch for the budget players. Seiko has so many firsts and innovations! I would argue the Seiko brand and history is head and shoulders above Bulova.
I greatly enjoyed this episode, perhaps because both Christian and Michael reached new and amusing depths of inarticulateness! FYI Michael - Tudor's partnership with Red Bull isn't something new this year; it dates from 2021.
