Absolutely incredible how 8 mph slower makes a $20,000 difference.
Thats kinetic energy for you
13 mph*
@@MyHvorfor Yep. V^2
Auto brake is a feature that automatically applies the brakes of the car even if the driver does not react. It can usually decrease the cars speed by 20 to 40km/h before impact, and can completely prevent collisions under 30km/h. The point of the second crash being slower was to demonstrate the effect of this system.
Also the total repair cost can easily reach the price of the car. New cars are made in a mostly automated production facility where as repairs are done completely by hand.
I crashed in a Mercedes CL600. Hit a semi truck, got spun across the freeway and only had a sore neck. Mercedes are very very safe! If I was in another car I'd be dead for sure.
Yes I was going roughly 15mph faster, but with the Mercedes control, low center of gravity, and just the safety features it could have been way worse. I could have easily been flipped in a different car and things could have gone for the worst. It's not just the Mercedes, God was on my side but still the Mercedes safety features saved me from a totaled car, in a cheap car the crash absorption would have possibly hurt me more.
Haha whatever you say, not gonna argue with ya. :3
+Brady Burke Serously, 'God was on your side' and rather let you crash instead of preventing the crash? Guess he likes a little action now and then too :-)
+Brady Burke poor V12

because she did not wear her safety belt! Read the coroner's report :-(
Damn Mercedes drivers. How could he not see the Chevy parked in front of him. He was clearly looking straight ahead. What a dummy.
LOL
made my day :D
***** I hear you bro. It's a big problem. Almost every time the person in front doesn't go at a green then you'll notice they're on their damn cell phone.
+Peace Yeah, that`s why they need all kinds of driving aids.
küssten die die Welt,
I actually think someone forgot to turn on the autobrake lol
Nah, they just tested it at the slower speed to simulate auto brakes. Still stupid though.
P
Mercedes auto break is trash I had a 2018 s class with the system on and accidentally hit some one at a red light the system never warned me or applied the brakes
@@nick4k539 then drive better moron
But it is not cool that is
so remember boys, if you want to crush her rear en, do it at 25 mph.
🤨🤣🤣🤣
here you can see that german cars are better than the american plastic bombers
+Nili Semmler If i am not mistaken, isn't there a METAL pushbar underneath the plastic bumper? The car makers do this to keep repair costs low. And by the way, german cars have plastic bumpers as well. :P
+Nili Semmler Here you demonstrate your utter lack of understanding about cars.
+Nili Semmler Ahhhaaa!!!!! Hello, my friend! ))))) You just said what I used to say every day ;-) Thank you!
Hahahahaha
This says Chevy Malibu
absorbs the shock better than C Class.
Laugh A Lot.hahaha
+Jung-hyun Lee Well, if you know physics, than you know that inside of the cars has same "decceleration" (negative acceleration), so the diference is - both people had softer crash, but Malibu is destroyed more properly.... :D :D :D
Somehow the Malibu got cocky and yelled to Mercedes, "Kiss my ass!". So Mercedes showed it the real deal.
Lol
Too funny! Autobrake still gets your car pretty messed up.

If I were the owner of the Chevy I would be thinking " well at least he's got good insurance"
I would have been wondering why I bought a coke can as a car. That heap of shit got wiped out by the Mercedes
I have a Chevy Malibu. I would be calling my Attorney.

Antonio are you sure? Because it’s in their facility with their equipment with their cars with their cameras those clips have just been put together on this channel
XKR lol 😂
Antonio They did
Mercedes went on with only a few dents, holy crap
+alternet8 because it (sort of) under rid the back of the malibu.
+alternet8 but still merc is wayyyyyy better than that shitty american Malibu XD
+alternet8 If it was only a 1983 or earlier Malibu, and not this wimpy front wheel drive thing, things would look quite different!
+Ronny Ager-Wick Actually the newer Malibu did pretty well against an old classic. ruclips.net/video/C_r5UJrxcck/видео.html

I personally believe that if you are caught texting while driving, there should be heavier punishments. My reasoning for this is that, you should not just throw away your, or someone elses life, just to text someone a friggin' pizza icon. It's just not worth it.
$28,000 and no airbags deployed???? I know the amount is both of them combined, but I figured the airbags would help bring the repair bill up.
TheLanard the repair bill is for a new Vectra as the chassis was damaged.
1:03 that is the best Mercedes you can buy I don’t think it got any damage! Only scratches maybe but this isn’t a good rating to buy it it’s an EXTREMELY AWSOME RATING
Thank you for this video. I know now that nothing happens to the Benz when it hits other cars at 12mph. I am gonna start ramming into cars in front me of with my C300 when they dont move after the light turns green!
даже подушки не понадобились )
Am I only seeing that the first test was done at 40kph then Suddenly to Test AUTOBRAKE they decided to do at half speed??? The Difference in damage alone could be very well tied to speed alone.. Ohh so impressive the car had to crash in order to stop at 20kph.. Now do the same at 40kph.
its probably to simulate the autobrake slowing the car down to 20 kph from 40kph
K
Not sure how this Malibu took this much damage at 25 miles an hour, I have a Malibu similar to this one, got rear ended at 40 miles an hour by an SUV and didn't even get half that damage.
Prob a fiat SUV (since both are weak) this is a though Mercedes.
@@humakhan80 though?
Probably due to mismatched bumpers in this test
At least the headlights on the C-Class didn't destroyed.

That is an impressive crumple zone. Imagine if it had the rigidity of the Benz, they would be in a world of hurt.
A Volvo appear ... a tank appear ... Now it's a real damage test :)
$28K damaged for both cars. 20 Km/h with auto brakes "because auto brakes was applied reducing the speed" than without it. This is good for people who tend to doze off while driving specially in traffic. I say take some "NO DOZE".
wow the light from the mercedes survive every hit haha damn strong glass tho
Kazimo the headlights are plastic.
invalid comparison, on the side of the cars one says 40km/h and the other 20km/h ... now i aint a crash scientist but umm.. thats two completely different speeds, of COURSE there will be less damage at less speed... dafuq?
Real Name A defensive driver would not have been driving too close to the car in front. That would work too.
This is not a comparison.
Well of course the second car will be going slower, this crash test was supposed to demonstrate AUTO BRAKE not the damage to the car, the car slowed down itself because of AUTO BRAKE, so it shows how it can reduce repair costs.
SIMcityplayer2002 agreed
I think someone forgot to turn the "Autobrake" on.

There doing a test between the two it simulates the auto brake slowing the vehicle in the two tests. Use your brain idiots!
And this ladies and gentleman this is how the Mercedes bends
Eh.. no auto break test with 40 km/h and with autobreak 20km/h, and then in the end you say you get less damage due auto break? Lol... or due lower speed :)
How can this be justified 25mph (without autobrake) vs 12mph (with autbrake). this is a biased test. you should have tested with 25mph (with autobrake). these corporates always think that they can fool the public!
I'm not sure this video shows what you attempt to show...if a crash happens at a faster speed, there will be more damage...yeah, we all expect that to be the case. With or without autobrake.
Apples to apples would be a better test.
Crash @ 20 w/out autobrake vs crash @ 20 with autobrake.
That would be a better comparison.
What I think is being show is with auto brake on this car, the car would have slowed down from 20mph to 12mph hence having less damage. with no auto brake you crash at full speed (20mph in this case). But the better merc systems can fully stop the car anyway to avoid the crash, thats more impressive.
I think it's to compare what your crash would be like if you had instead had autobrakes. Then again you might be the smartest guy in the world.
Both the cars did not suffer any mechanical damage in both tests. How is there 28000$ or 5000$ damage?
That auto brake system is truly doing its work.
Mercedes and Volvo are the safest cars in the world! Americans can built other things, but not cars^^
Agreed!! I especially agree with the Mercedes-Benz part! Mine is like a tank, and I feel confident and safe driving it around!
Robert Makinen You got a GL?
Maybe include the VW Phaeton too ! My old man has had two & they just won´t break !
Terry Thomas Has anyone mistaken it as Passat?
Yer Many times !
I know this will probably be a dumb question to a lot of people, but isn't it simple logic that a lower speed will have less damage? I don't really get this test :-/
It is a comparison of two cars with and without auto brakes.
But the second car did not slow down... they just crashed it at a lower speed. If they had sent off the car at the same speed, and one of them had the auto brakes activated and thus slowed down before the impact, it would have properly demonstrated the difference it makes. Also, why would the auto brakes only slow it down to 20 km/h? Couldn't it come to a full stop? The system in my car should be able to do it, though I have a long range radar, so that will help compared to systems that are only supposed to mitigate crashes occurring at low speeds.
Of course it will. At 1mph there would be zero damage.
Poor Mercedes ran into a crash barrier that looks like a Chevy.
Honestly the Merc wasn't damaged
If your lookin for safety. Mercedes is definitely the way to go
how a Malicedes is born
♧
A C-Class hit my Malibu LTZ, same year make. But the radiator amd the engine were no more (so the car was no more). And my Malibu had it's bumper tilted on a 5° angle. Makes no sense.
Now That Mercedes Is Slammed Bro!!!
Crashed an 05 Malibu (yes I know it’s older) into a tree then spun to a telephone pole going anywhere from 40-45 MPH. The blunt impact collapsed both my lungs and did a lot of head trauma. The only reason I made it out of that car alive is the side curtain airbags. Though, in the end of the day, I could bet my life that car could’ve still been started and driven home as the front impact from the tree never made it to vital mechanical parts. Don’t remember the day, but thing kept me alive and I miss it everyday. I’ve now got a 2010 2LT and am still getting used to the feel
*Masters from Armenia will repair this car for less than $ 2,500, after an accident at 150 km\h*
ага и ввезут потом в Россию, ни б ни к )))
Polish masters doing same things 😂
Those headlights on the C-Class must be made of something harder than glass or plastic lol... They didnt even crack
When you forgot that you’re in drive:
This test DOESN'T show how autobrake can mitigate crash severity, damage costs.
But, it DOES show that how driving SLOW can mitigate crash severity, damage costs.
Unfortunately, people do not pay 55k-60k to drive at 12MPH.
25 MPH vs 12 MPH.
What kind of stupidity is this?
Damn in the first clip, the merc barely had any damage to the front while u take a look at the Malibu
Well yeah that’s the front of a car vs the back
@@KingEliMusic21 I know, but like if you had the Malibu crash into the back of the merc, the merc wouldn’t have that much damage as well
@austinrover2005 probably no because comparing the material from the cevorlet to the merc, the merc is way stronger.
No airbag in both car
Damage... $28,000??????
they build a new Malibu around the old steering wheel
Well they did choose to use a Mercedes which it's a luxury car brand and expensive to repair so I'm sure that contributes to more than half of the damage $$ if they would've used another car like the Malibu or another car with autobrake probably would be such an expensive cost in total damages
in the real world the insurance company would probably total out both cars
TFisher171 this car cost new 20 000€
It adds up quick on modern cars. Think the front bumper is cheap until you realise that parking sensors, auto brake sensors and front fog lights are housed in that bumper and then there is labour costs on top of it. A bumper alone can easily be several thousaund dollars. Think the headlights are cheap but then remember they are advanced LED lights with sensors that adjust the high beam at night and have sensors to automatically turn them on when dark etc again the headlights can be thousaunds. Then remember that in this impact the hood and both front fenders will probably take damage too and in the case of the Chevy the trunk and this is all before we assess for structural damage which is really expensive to put right. Labour isn't cheap especially if its repaired properly by a professional and costs as much if not mroe than the parts and trust me you don't want a half assed repair on structure or paintwork because it will be a problem again 5-10 years down the line, rust can form easily if its not done properly and ruin the entire car and with electrical components like lights moisture can kill them if there is gaps in the panels if the repair is not done properly. This is why you avoid cars that have an accident recorded.
The first mercedes is for sale, repaired. Currently 26k miles. Clean title.
How are these crashes so expensive? The damage doesn't seem to be THAT high
mercedes makes 100%profit on selling spare parts
We used to have a Mercedes E class and repairs did not cost nearly as much :/
Neither car would have been drivable after the first test. The malibu may have wound up with an R title after in such an accident, as it may have damaged the exhaust system, not to mention expensive quarter panel replacement, possible rear door replacement. Honestly lucky if it wouldnt be almost totaled... The Merc, figure a hood, rad, headlamps which for HIDs wouldnt be surprised at almost 1500+ for those alone, possible damage to rad support, bumper/impact bar replacement, and fender repair, not at all surprising to be honest. The cars did their jobs in absorbing energy. But honestly my money would go to the malibu being almost totaled in the first instance because of the likelihood of damage to the exhaust system
Ryan Slemmer
The second they do something to the exhaust for repair/replacement its automatically an R title if its more than a muffler in most states
kenykillr No they don't.
I drive a '09 Malibu and got rear-ended by a '02 Taurus at 35mph. My car just needed a new bumper skin and "rear diffuser" piece. The exhaust had to be straightened slightly too. The Taurus was completely totaled btw, non recognizable from the front end.
The other driver was going 40 and hit the brakes at the VERY LAST second. My damage was very similar to the second crash's result.
I find it kinda sad that the it was a manipulated experiment. They should of made both cars go at the same speed and then we can really see the difference.
Then they could simply crash it into a wall. It gives the same amount of G-Force hitting a wall in 90 km/h than hitting another car going 90 km/h. Its all about how quickly the car takes to stop which determine the outcome of a crash. Yes you are correct that it would be more of an impact, but this is not what this test is out to find out, If you noticed either of the airbags blew out.
john Falcon xxxxxxxxx
They should test the crash with same speed! lol
Mercedes car to be close to the front of the front tire. The front of the car is proof that solid. Because smaller objects or components increasing the robustness.

Damn why the dislikes CLEARLY that Mercedes is better than that Chevy but if people can’t accept The truth because they can’t afford them🤷♂️
هذي صدمة سيارة التصادم الي فالملاهي هههههه
At least the trunk didn't get damaged and the 1st one
Good God that damn Merc is built like a fucking tank!!!
No it isn't, it IS moving and has greater Kinetic Energy on side, mass increases as speed increases, did you pay attention in physics class ?
Gordon Mccracken Have you ever paid attention to a rear end collision? The car that's applying the force always gets fucked up.
Gordon Mccracken Mass never increases unless you literally add more mass to it. For god's sake, the mass of an object won't change if the object is flying, speeding on the ground or in it's place, anywhere in the universe! Did you pay attention in physics class?
That's not even what I meant you fucking idiot. The front end of a car rides lower than the rear and the hood/headlights takes the blow. As we can see here, that doesn't fucking matter because it's a goddamn Merc.
Edit: I thought Plo Soldiers comment was aimed at mine about rear end collisions. My bad.
hahaha no problem
Sounded like my dog when he hurts himself
some of you didnt get the point of this video, its not about autobrakes, its about how cheap that chevy malibu is :)). Mercedes: The BEST or nothing !!
I agree with tuddor69!! Das beste oder nicht! ;)
you sound like a rich kid
After having beers with some German headlight engineers, they told us that folks in Germany look at Mercedes like we look at our Fords.
david cain Sure, most of the cabs in Europe are Mercedes C and E class cars. They also sell buses and trucks. They still have a reputation for quality of course (so does Ford btw) but it's only in the US where MB is positioned as a super luxury brand.
So, Mercedes' autobrake feature is basically pretty shitty.
Its Not On -_-
My TV is pretty shitty too when it's not turned on. Better contact the manufacturer.
Evan Fish Siegfried Furtwängler Knappertsbusch Really eh? Maybe you two should fast forward to 0:58 and watch the test where it IS turned on. Okay, fine, it lessens the damage, but there are other systems out there where it stops the car from hitting entirely. I'll assume that Mercedes may have ironed out the system by now, at least on the new S-class.
So whats the point? Less speed= Less damage? What in the world is an autobrake? What does this video demonstrate?!
Autobrake is a mercedes feature that is supposed to make it near impossible to hit something by automatically hitting the brakes for you before you crash. Supposed to work even when you cant see like thick fog or snow. It hasn't been know to be reliable though. Hilarious video around here somewhere of journalists testing it out, and not having it turned on. So they just smoke the back of another car.
stevew145 you mean the volvo test? it was into the back of a semi...
medo notknow nope, mercedes s class
www.streetfire.net/video/top-gear-on-the-s-class-auto-brake-fail_2001041.htm
Yea, on the slow motion camera it's obvious the slower car doesn't break. Its speed is just overall lower. Kinda fail of the demonstration.
Yeah not sure what they were going for there.
We’ve watched a video like this in my summer drivers ed class, and this happen to pop up in my recommended...
In case all you idiots didn't know, the Malibu was IIHS top safest pick (the same people that did this test). Its not about how much damage is done to the car, its about how the passengers were affected... the Malibu has an extremely strong and safe passenger cage.
Yucatán zb VCF hvxzjj mbjogrrytftyippuhkp0pppppppufbcsdffdhuh
IIHS top safety pick is a participation trophy. Getting a top safety pick+ ensures you’ll be safe. A car can have a marginal crash test rating and be given title top safety pick
why did they have to use c-class with expensive lighting package and sports package for this crash test. why don't they just use standard options like halogen headlights and elegance line? such a waste of parts.
where is the airbag?
Crash is not more
Chevrolet definitely is better in my opinion, because the repair costs aren't as high, and it's American, so you don't have to wait for parts
Adurite Games you would need to buy a whole new Vectra in the first crash whie the Merc would just need new panels, it ate the Vectra for breakfast.
0.38 - no airbags?
+terryyouth It wasnt a big crash and it wasnt that fast
+StopStyle You'd have to have hemophilia or a similar disorder to die from that...
terryyouth 0:38
terryyouth the impact was too small to activate the airbags
Their head didn’t go anywhere near the steering wheel so no need.
the 20kmh simulates how fast the car would have slowed down too after going 40 kmh.
28 grand worth of damage? WTF?
Cost to repair one lightly damaged mercedes plus replace one entire chevy.
kbcarroll
that's funny
That's because the C class just ate that Vectra.
28 grand dollars?
La Talmus yes
This isnt quite the test I thought it was going to be while showing the difference an auto braking system can have the fix costs are not comparable due to the fact that one car was going 40 and the other was only going 20. This would make that unfair to compare.
Mercedes c class getting crashed🥺😭 Chevy Malibu getting crashed👍🏻
True
Nobody loves the malibu
@@humakhan80 who would, the Mercedes it better
So is the test car actually braking 2nd time around? It looks like they just send it into the collision slower.
Why can't they actually let the auto-brake activate then it's indicative of what would really happen. Under hard braking the pitching will mean things like the bonnet will be inches lower in an emergency braking situation, possibly damaging completely different areas of both the cars more/less.
WTF ITS NOT AUTOBRAKE ITS DIFFERENT SPEEDS
Their point is if autobrake were more widely available, the speed that urban accidents happen will be greatly reduced, thus the bill afterwards.

Can you please do a crash test of every car combination out there please?
U know the Mercedes did better one reason the Mercedes is newer it's my favorite car vs my grandmothers car honestly I like both
Obviously a whole lot of people that don't understand basic PHYSICS have watched this video and made comments, a moving object (The Mercedes) has more mass and thus should "prevail" when ramming a stationary object of similar mass. Also this same C-Class Mercedes performed extremely poorly in IIHS Small Overlap Crash testing with its floor pan ripping open and its driver's side wheel and tire being drive into the cabin - contrast that to the Volvo S60, Honda Accord, Honda Civic which all received GOOD ratings in the same crash test.
I think the Malibu is a heavier car, and a larger one than the C class.
BoeingvsAirbus1578 the C-Class weighs significantly more than the Malibu.
2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Gross Weight= 4453lbs
2012 Chevrolet Malibu 1LT Gross Weight= 3421lbs
The actual lesson here is to be in a Mercedes when you wreck.
Why? Just why
Hmm that slower crash is similar to my most recent accident. My car was more damaged than his, but thankfully the damage looks almost purely cosmetic. At that repair price though, might better to fix up some things and sell or trade it in.

So you guys have cars just laying around to crash? Must be nice
+SolomonTDS Well, yeah, the IIHS requires manufacturers to provide them with enough cars for all required safety tests. It's kind of an important thing to do.
I HOPE the guys inside are ok and with their family
+CombattRogue LOL good one :P
Pray for dummy
Airbags?
At 40km/h you don't need airbags, they just waste all your money to replace.
Airbags shouldn't deploy since the seat belts were enough to keep the dummy from hitting the steering wheel. Although I was going 20mph in my Ford Taurus and the airbags deployed. Scared the crap out of me and the passenger airbag busted through the windshield and had glass flying around. The car was a total loss of course even though not too much damage.
The reson why 40mph crash was 28k worth of damage is, it includes a brand new Malibu. That car is definitely totalled.
ha... this video should be renamed "how to damage two perfectly good C-Class for no apparent reason". Whoever funded this test should be fired... what a waste! There is no Auto-brake feature active here... you just halved the speed. MB could have provided the results to you for free!!!
Not entirely, I personally don't see the point of the test, but it was to simulate with or without autobrake at 25mph. Obvs, without it, you hit the car at 25mph, with it, it slows you down to an impact speed of around 12mph. Below about 19mph is when it's capable of fully stopping the car, otherwise, it reduces impact speed. Hope this helps.
Sam Tripp sort of, but MB could have still provided these results for free... If this research facility actually utilised an actual 'real life' auto brake result, then that would make much more sense. In the end they could have used any car (even another Malibu), as I am positive that halving the impact speed of any car would reduce the damage cost significantly...
Andrew Clelland I think 25 mph was used because it would simulate impact speed after the c-class driver applied brakes, slowing from say 40 or 50. But yeah I don't see why they had to use C-class sedans, maybe a more accurate vehicle would be an Audi A4 (just kidding) or some other midsize, non-luxury sedan.
the test is inconclusive as the speed was reduced with 50% in the second test it did half damage so you cant conclude the braking system as a success
it's probably for insurance companies only
