- The Super Rare Sports Car From 90s Almost Nobody Knows!
The Venturi 260 APC, a rare French sports car that dared to challenge the automotive giants of the early 1990s. In this video, we delve into the history, design, and performance of this hidden gem from Venturi Automobiles.
Founded in 1984 by two ambitious French engineers, Venturi set out to create high-performance cars that could compete with the likes of Porsche and Ferrari. Their journey began with the Venturi Coupé in 1986, but it was the 260 APC in 1990 that truly put them on the map.
We'll explore the 260 APC's sleek aerodynamic design, featuring a low, wide stance and carefully crafted body elements that not only looked stunning but also enhanced performance. Learn about the innovative additions like the deeper front spoiler and distinctive rear wing that improved stability and handling at high speeds.
Under the hood, the 260 APC packed a punch with its turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 engine. We'll break down the impressive specs: 260 horsepower, 0-60 mph in just 5.2 seconds, and maximum torque available from a mere 1,750 rpm. Discover how this powerplant, combined with a rear-wheel-drive layout and finely tuned suspension, created a car that was both exhilarating on the track and comfortable for daily driving.
Step inside the 260 APC as we examine its driver-focused interior, balancing luxury and sportiness with customizable trim options. We'll discuss how Venturi's attention to detail and willingness to personalize each car added to its appeal among enthusiasts.
Despite its impressive capabilities, the Venturi 260 APC faced an uphill battle in the competitive sports car market. We'll look at the challenges Venturi encountered, including financial struggles and fierce competition from established brands.
With only 188 units produced between 1989 and 1996, the 260 APC remains a rare and coveted piece of automotive history. Join us as we celebrate this underdog of the sports car world and the passionate individuals behind its creation. Whether you're a car enthusiast or simply appreciate tales of ambitious underdogs, this video offers a captivating look at a unique chapter in automotive history.

I didn’t think it was possible to combine the styling of Ferrari, Toyota, Lotus and Porsche into one car. But there it is!
And Corvette!
And Ford: See Ford Probe
And Isuzu (Piazza)!!!
The V6 installed in the venturi models, (200, 210, 260, 300 BHP) had absolutely nothing to do with the original engine, the French PRV, which had also equipped the De Lorean, in a much less powerful version of only 135 BHP. Everything, or almost, had been modified, or changed by the Venturi factory. Pistons, camshaft, connecting rods, new injection system, etc... So much so that Venturi had it homologated as their own engine. Much more powerful versions of 500 or 600 BHP had even been developed for the racing Venturi's, during the 24 hours of Le Mans, for example.
Venturi factory total production during 14 years, 1986/2000, was a little bit less than 700 cars, in the historical factory located near the city of Nantes, on the French Atlantic coast. In 2000, the brand was purchased by the Monegasque billionaire Pastor, and transferred in Monaco, southern France. Today, the company still exists but produce only electric cars, mainly for records.

For a few years I owned the only green one in the UK so if you google 'Venturi 300 Atlantique' and its comes up with a green one RHD and reg number R3PPB - then thats the one - its been sold a few times since - last time was up for £48K. I had a switch fitted under the dash to turn the fans on when it overheated - which it did after three minutes in traffic - the pop up headlights had a neat trick - if you flashed someone one would pop up - then the other would pop up then one would go down and the other would stay up - I worked out that I did more miles towing it back to Osellii in Whitney on a trailer than I did driving it and it was always a 'body off' affair with an invoice to reflect that. However on the extraordinarily rare occasion it worked it was sublime, one of the best handling cars I have ever had, which includes some exotica including a Dino and a Lotus Elise and a TVR Cerbera - fond memories but no thanks - not again - in fact not ever !!
It's always like that. The great ones are always broke. 😂
Some awesome memories..
Thanks for sharing the experience of such a rare car!
I like the Porsche 944 that pops in at 3:30 point. 😊
more than once.
I noticed it about 3 times.
Yeah, what the heck? But also I'm seeing the design influence that gave us the Corrado
I have a 1986 944 White with red leather, 80k it's immaculate.
Strange how this car looks like a mid 1980's Toyota Supra...which was a very good car in itself.
It has elements of many '90's cars and the 2nd gen Supra first came to mind for it's profile.

Yeah, it doesn’t look bad but does look very derivative. The Supra crossed with a few other cars from the 90’s. Maybe a little Ferrari Mondial in there too, not the best Ferrari to emulate
I was thinking 90s MR2 from the rear, just beefier
I cannot stand the fact that you used the same image of a Porsche 944 three times as if it was a Venturi.
Or showing the front of the car when talking about the rear spoiler then vice versa...
Then have a seat my friend
Those Frogs pimp slapped a Ferrari, Porsche and a Lotus into one!

seeing stuff like this really makes you appreciate gran tursimo 2. theres cars in there that people are just talking about/discovering now. thats when i fell in love with the ford RS200.

Remember reading about these in some car mag back then. Hilarious that the big seller was catalytic converter. Times have changed. Great video well done.

You put the wrong photo at 0.42min. That is the Venturi 300 Atlantique and was the last Venturi. A guy I knew had a 260 when I was young, I remember driving with him to collect a new 300 Atlantique he ordered. I remember the whistling of the turbo just behind your back. We left the 260 at the dealership and went home in the Atlantique. Great memories!
It may well have been mine!!! - I had a green one - the only green one in the UK
YES! The Venturi prototype appeared in the cover of Motor Trend back in the mid eighties, and I've been hooked on it ever since. It used components for bigger brands to increase reliability: Renault engine and brightwork, Mercedes-Benz single arm windshield wiper, Citroēn power mirrors, etc. And the cabin was much more comfortable than most other exotic cars.
high performance engine, high performance brakes, high performance steering.... got it. very technnical video
It’s a hodge podge of 80s cars put together, looks like a Rx-7, fiero, lotus esprit, Mr-2, 944 all in 1

Not a bad thing
@@redtesta except it's the other way around. Venturi was first with the prototype in 1984 and production running in 1987. The 348 came out in 1989.

But it still has some rough edges, like the 944 sneaking in at 3:29 and 6:29.
@@BobGeogeo Brother your talking about rough edges, then plz visited the last video, it was simply the worst, almost made me unsub because I thought they had lost their passion and video quality .
You have a 3 or 4 second clip of a Porsche 944 appearing three times in this video. Might want to fix that...
And showing pictures of a chevy 2.8 v6
And an Audi V6 as well.
I know the Venturi brand from Gran Turismo 2. The Atlantique 300 was the French Ferrari for me when I was 12.
I was a bit older - mid 20's - a fair few years later - I bought the only green one in the UK - it was terrible - the game version didn't have the dodgy electrics - never buy your dreams!!!!
Good looking car, especially the 300! It's aged well.
4:08 that’s a 2.8L from a Camaro.
And the first time they mention the engine it's an Audi engine 🤦🏼♂️. Transmission picture was a motorcycle trans? I don't even know if this is mid-engine or front engine. Video is all over the place. The voice is AI and seems like 1/2 the footage was randomly picked by AI.
IT is a fucking PRV 90 degree V6 from Renault! It was also used in some Volvo's and the DeLorean. Hello?
@@Flies2FLLThe picture showed a camaro engine?
@@slowanddeliberate6893 Yes, that was a mistake by the video maker. The engine was the famous PRV V6 that was in thousands of Volvo's, Peugeots, and Renaults. It was also used in the DeLorean. It was designed as a V8 but the 1970's energy crisis caused the three companies involved to build a V6 instead. It was a very reliable engine, but it never made that much power; I think the DeLorean PRV was 2.8 liters and only produced 130 hp. To put that in perspective, these days a 2.0T four cylinder can produce close to 300 hp with 200,000 mile longevity....
I Remember This Car in Gran Turismo But Never Seen One in Person Kinda Reminds Me of a Ferrari 348
Wow! Amy gearhead that also loved video games like grand tourismo would actually instantly recognize this as some of the more obscure types of cars like TVRs, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, RUFF, Alfa Romeo, ;& more!
" Peugeot, Citroen, Renault; obscure types of cars". Maybe in the US, because these brands have left this market for about thirty years, but for information, Peugeot, Citroen, and Renault, are respectively N°2 and 3 on the European car market, one of the 3 largest in the world. French brands are present on all continents, except North America, and in 2024, French automakers are still ranked in the world top 10.
Love this 300 in gran turismo. By far my all-in-1 car to play
As you talked Venturi you continuously showed a Porsche, while the Venturi looked like an early 80's Supra, which was a mighty fine sport sedan with its silky smooth and powerful straight six.
K. Figured it out. Toyota mr2/Ferrari/lotus/Honda crx/ford.probe/corrvete/Pontiac fiero/Porsche/80s supra. These are the cars i see a mix of in this car. It's kinda a mutt
Add in the rear tail lights of an E21 3-series BMW, except they slipped down a bit.
Forgot to add - Mitsubishi Starion in the front bumper with the integrated driving lights.
Missed the Corrado influence too
Great little documentary, good job!
One of my favorite designs ever. I found out about it on l’Automobile
My family had a 944 Turbo and a VW Corrado. This looks like the product of both (with a strong hint of MR2 tail lights)... but showing that red 944 at least three times in this video was confusing. Looks like you had trouble finding enough footage of the actual Vinturi! Cool car, whatever the case.
Looks great very elegant 👍
It looks like a 90’s Supra and a Lotus had a kid. 30 seconds in and it’s at least a beautiful car.
Lotus killer that's what we called it. Awesome car like an alpine 610.
It looks like a Fiero got a Ferrari REALLY intoxicated and this is what happened.

The testarossa with the roundy body was the most coupe, had the 12v in 1988 12th scale NiKKO turbo remote. There aernt any at all, their all fake because as soon as you drive it through a puddle, its dead. But mad cool, zcars got nothing. 12th scale was legit.
Looks like a Fiero 😂
This video is very incomplete. This model is only one of the many Venturi models that existed. On the other hand, Venturis are hand-built cars, with luxurious interior finishing, and careful assembly. Nothing to do with mass-produced cars like the Fiero.

You lost me when you said motor by Renault
The 300 BHP V6 engine of the Venturi 300 had absolutely nothing to do with the original French PRV engine that could also be found in much less powerful versions, such as the one with only 135 BHP on the De Lorean. Everything, or almost, had been modified by the Venturi factory, pistons, connecting rods, camshaft, new injection unit..., etc. So much so that Venturi had it homologated as their own engine.
Even more powerful versions of 400, 500, or 600 BHP were also developed for motor racing

Ok it looks like a Pontiac Fiero & Toyota MR2 had a live child. But the MR2 was cheating on the Fiero with a Ferrari 308. And ended up with this bastard child. 😂😂😂😂
Dont get me wrong. This thing looks awesome. Being a Gen X baby i grew up dreaming of the cars I'd love to have after getting my license.if i would have known about this car it would have been high on my list. What a shame too. They knew how to style a sports car too. The other models shown hit the styling head on the nail.

Are those Toyota rear lights
Venturi's first models rear lights came from the first BMW 3 serie, and from the Ford Sierra for the Venturi 300.
I thought they looked like E21 rear lights, just they slipped down to a lower location. I think the front bumper copied the Mitsubishi Starion.
This whole video seems like it made by an AI
Script sounds like it was written by an AI or someone trying to hit a minimum word count. No offense. Cool car though.
They used a V6 when trying to compete with vehicles equipped with V8s and V12s? Did they not care about the competition?
260 hp is not bad out of a 2.8 liter engine. V6 is also much lighter than V8 or V12.
Try to inform you a little bit better. They’re French, they don’t need to follow others, they set their own standards, and sir, this is what we give you, and you will politely accept. Decent performance from it though.
Buick Grand National, the GNX and the Nissan G-TR have V6 engines. With a built/ tuned V6 you will run out of traction in that car before you run out of power
Looks too much like a Toyota.
Venturi's were hand made cars with a high luxury manufacturing process. Nothing to see with mass production cars like Toyota.
That’s an ugly MR2………
