Yes, she’s a jazz singer. People don’t realize what that is. They claim that she’s “pitchy”, but she isn’t at all. Of course, it helps to hear the music on good headphones.

There are several close-up videos of Angelina singing and it's quite fascinating.You see her shape the sound with her mouth and tongue.
I enjoyed your reaction, as always, Valerie! This video, filmed on Venice Beach, is essentially unique in style for Angelina. Her ability to draw out the emotion that's in a song, sometimes more than the original artist did/can, continues to amaze me. She has said, more than once, that when she sings she goes to a "magic" place in her mind. It's evident that she's a dedicated student of music, not just the techniques, but the history as well..listening to past and present artists, probably reading about them. Absorbing this, has she developed an internal repository of empathy that she draws upon? I believe and become enveloped in the emotion she expresses. She's not feigning it. For me the shining example of her innate sense of phrasing and your "negative space" is her IG cover of "Wicked Games". She goes far beyond Chris Isaac's original and develops a melancholy that is practically devastating. The longer version begins with 30 seconds of her at her keyboard where she usually works out her versions. You can see her IG comment to the side, "Just having fun on my corner with Wicked Games song." The IG time stamp is 11Aug2018. After 30 seconds of her grandmother's mobile phone the video switches to the good mic and distracting photos that her grandmother chose..sorry, you can't see her singing. Angelina wrote the textbook on "negative space" with that performance of wicked game. It's a real pity You can't see her singing, but I definitely support your suggestion, considering how much the reactor appreciates negative space.

Your video is stunning!! I give it an A+. When Chris recorded this in the 80's, I fell in love with it immediately. Since then I've heard it covered at least 20 times, probably more. None of them, not even Chris', comes close to Angelina's. The obsession and melancholy that she captures is amazing. And she's just a kid. One of my favorite Angelina performances. She's done several covers of Amy Winehouse. Angelina gets her. - I loved Amy Winehouse, too.
This is one of my favorite Angelina performances I wish they had focused on her singing and the joy she expressed doing it.
I can see why you would want to see her face when she is singing. I always prefer the videos where it is a live shot of her singing, but this is also fun because often when you hear her sing, you forget how young she is... this video of her playing in the sand reminds you that you are listening to 12 year old. This one is likely a video where she recorded the audio at home and then went and shot this fun video to go with the recording. (I think there would be a lot of ambient noise in the audio from the beach). As far as I know this is the only such video. All the other videos on her cover channel are just her behind a mic (except Autumn leaves). If you want to see her sing it, every other video on her cover channel should fit the bill.
Also... concerning what you said about being exposed to music... I think Angelina is an example of something new in the world.... she is a product of the youtube generation. When Angelina was 2-3 years old, she had a tablet, and had access to seek out all the music she wanted to listen to and study. She could listen to hours and hours of old jazz music (right at her little fingertips). This is something that no generation before could do. I think that is a very important ingredient in the making of this unprecedented talent.
Hello - I know you are a great fan of Angelina Jordan and well done for your channel - I just wanted to say that I also think that this girl is something new in the world. She's from the youtube generation and it's just that she could listen to anything she wants very young. And she has a natural talent and a timeless voice. This young woman is a revolution. In a way it is not Angelina who uses her talent but the art and music which grow and flourish through Angelina. I often say that it does not sing, it is sung because it is inhabited. This magic is possible because in addition to its extraordinary voice, it is of immense humility and sensitivity. She is not trying to be in control. She is just listening to the deepest part of herself and she lets her sensitivity guide her. This young woman is a wonderful gift to the world.

About her phrasing: In some of her jazz covers I was amazed of how she was able to sing "freely" over the tempo, and now I read an article in Rolling Stone about Willie Nelson, where they described that type of singing. I guess this applies to Angelina also:

I've heard even voice coaches say that about Angelina. As if she shouldn't be doing that. One accused her of being "off tempo" when hearing "I Have Nothing". She (a really popular voice coach) didn't seem to realize jazz singers do that all the time. It's part of what jazz is.
For my money, Willie Nelson is THE master of phrasing.

Funniest thing about this video wich was a "vacation reward" to Angelina and her sister if i remember correct,besides the obvious sass brought in by the tiny one as a backup dancer,was the part where Angelina kneels down by a flock of Seagulls. And after starting to sing,it seemed like they wanted to take off flying,but after listening more closely while taking cautious steps back and fourth,they were like "Hey fellas,we havent heard a hooman sing like this in a hot minute......this girl can SING!"😂Angelina getting attention from humans,animals and birds? Confirmed! Legend has it shes not stopping there,she now seeks to hypnotize the Fish world too!😏

I liked the way she wanted to run after Angelina,but got abit uncertain if she was allowed to. Like if you own a dog,they act the same way. But after theyr parents probably said it was okay for her to follow Angelina,Angelina had allready returned and came running back. It seemed to make little Juliette a tad nervous. Alot of funny,adorable moments caught on cam in this video :)

Another great reaction to Angelina. I totally agree that I really want to see her face when she sings. I really love what she did to the Moma's & the Popa's California Dreamin. It's just her & Ivan Mendez on acoustic guitar, but she transforms the song into something completely different from the original. The surviving members of the band loved it so much they posted it on their official website. Another song I recommend is her cover of Frankie Valli's Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You. Her dynamics are amazing & she outdoes Frankie at his own genre. If neither of those interest you, then try her cover of Lana Del Rey's Young & Beautiful where she takes it to another level. I love your reactions & I'm sure you will love all 3 of these covers.

It's pretty obvious from the sound quality that the audio recording was done in studio, or at least indoors, probably at home with the normal setup we see Angelina use in her home made videos. The reason she decided to do this at the beach might be as a tribute to the original artist - or maybe it's just a fun place to be for a fun song to sing.

What`s privat about singing at a public beach? :-D Angelina loves to sing to the world. BTW - not so shure this tripp to LA was all vacational.
She has what I am pretty sure is her home studio mike with her and that is *not* cheap and presumably sensitive to dust&sand&such (and so revealing most singers presumably would be afraid to use it). So, the singing was definitely recorded live and I think it was also used in the video, since the synchronicity of lips and sound is so perfect when you see her singing (and her jazzy spirit means the small jazz variations she sprinkle her performances with often vary between performances of the same song). The only thing that makes me wonder is that not more background noise was picked up by this sensitive mike, but then the backing track was less subdued and more continuously upbeat than usual, and this might have been recorded on a quiet time of the morning...
that does look like the mike she usually uses, so it would be hopeless with that wind . I feel like she was sing ing the song there, with the overdub put on later.
You talked about how the music someone grows up listening to has an influence on them later on, even if they don't necessarily "like it". That reminded me of an interview Grimes did on KEXP, in 2012 right before her album 'Visions' was released (she also performed 3 songs, and the video, which is quite popular, is well worth watching). She said that her dad loved classic rock, so she always heard that growing up. When the interviewer asked if she liked that style of music, she grimaced and said no. I found that interesting, however, because I also "grew up" (well, starting in high school, anyway) listening to classic rock, and there was always something that attracted me to Grimes' music of that period (2011-12) that I could never put my finger on. After hearing that interview, I began to wonder whether somehow I was picking up on some influence of classic rock in her music (e.g., key or chord changes, or whatever). Unfortunately, I don't have enough technical musical knowledge to be able to figure out whether that's true.
You may want to look up "Emily Bear" playing a scale at 1 1/2 years old. She played her first concert at 5. Just a thought.
I'd like to see you experience "Stay". It's pop but she nails it.

Lately when I listen to her, she reminds me of Amy Winehouse. Her style, although she's not quite as dark.

You should look at some of avi Kaplan's solo work, he is phenomenal, I recommend his house of the rising sun cover where it's just him playing the guitar and singing, amhe also has a bunch of other amazing songs.
It would also be really interesting if you could explain how he gets such a unique and folksy timbre in his middle range

However, all is not lost because a video with more appropriate graphics has now been uploaded by a graphics artist, Sune Amtoft. This performance by Angelina is the most emotionally charged, gut wrenchingly beautiful song she she has done to date. Although it does not meet your criteria of being able to see Angelina's face, it will meet any criteria you should require concerning voice control and emotional output. Maybe you can't see her face so clearly but it's clear to me how comfortable she is on stage, how confident and as amazing as always :)

Other than the obvious love that Angelina has for her sister, Angelina never missed a note even with all the interactions she is having with her sister.

Question for you, how do you know your vocal range when you never have been singing? Or rather how do you establish what it is?
It's best if you have a piano and you can see how low and high you can sing. I do a "range check" with my students on their first lesson. It's good to have a ball park idea of where to start. But a good vocal coach will know how to help you expand your range.

Always love your reactions, this is just for your enjoyment it is an interview, I don't think you will be able to understand what they are saying and neither do I however you will understand some very interesting parts. At 0:25 she is 6 years old and at 2:49-3:24 she is at a recording studio that the city of Oslo has for people in their music program, she is singing "I Who Have Nothing" by Shirley Bassey. There is a video of the full song on RUclips. At 1:08-1:20 her singing Gloomy Sunday on Norway's Got Talent. At 1:52-2:12 she is a 1and a half years singing. At 4:30-5:00 she goes to a shop with her mom that has Classic jazz LPs and you can see how happy she is. Check out You Tube channel Angelina Jordan Fanclub Mozarz with amazing behind the scenes. The jazz greats know Angelina. One of her mentors is Quincy Jones, and she sang at his 85th birthday at the O2 arena in London.

Yeah, "music videos" are not really the best choices for vocal coaches to react to. There are a handful (at least) of other Angelina performances of this song on YT. Some are hard to find because they don't have the name of the song in the video title. I think all of the instrumentation was way too prominent, especially the drums, way too much. Her voice should have been the dominant sound, but it wasn't. She was perfection as always. Amazing artist.
