I grew up in a family with 9 children…yes, I said 9…and we made a lot of ornaments for our trees over the years. I use wallpaper, wrapping paper and pictures printed out on the printer for decoupaging but as kids growing up in the 50’s and 60’s we did in fact use old magazine pictures and they worked great. You bring back many memories of simpler times and I think much less stressful times Brenda. One thing we also made were stained glass windows with crayons and wax paper as we ALWAYS seemed to have an abundance of broken and stubby crayons for this project and surprisingly one or another of us got a new box of crayons for Christmas each year for quite a few years. After us kids were all about grown my mother went to tinsel trees with color wheels. Go figure!!! Looking forward to your farmhouse tour coming up. Thanks for entertaining and enlightening us on real farmhouse living with your visits…I am always glad to see you post a new vlog as it’s pure and simply an enjoyment to watch!!!:):):)

Wow, a family of 9. I bet that was a lively household. Now that I've tried decoupage I'll probably be experimenting with other things. I hope to be doing some with the grandkids too. Thanks for the encouragement!

Hi Brenda! Love the channel. So enjoy you and your husband's rapport. So endearing. I too enjoy homemade crafts. I wish I could crochet - yours are gorgeous! Tips on decoupage napkins: if you take a very thin tipped paintbrush with tiny amount of water and draw around design, it tears easy and will not have a cut edge to design. Take a small piece of tape on back of napkin to help separate layers. If you happen to not want wrinkles, use some plastic wrap to smooth out wrinkles once top coat is applied. Also, I have used cardstock, Christmas tags, fabric, and ribbon for decoupaging - all work. I did orange slices this year in my food dehydrator, worked great. I need to try the applesauce cinnamon decorations. They fit perfectly with my rustic tree. I made a safe "candle" with a small branch section (5") for the 'wax' part, almond in shell for flame, used air dry clay to mold a holder, then glued a small clothes pin to attach to the tree - glue everything together. Or you can skip the holder and just use the clothes pin on the bottom. Hope that made sense. Inspired by [daryadarcy] Merry Christmas!

Thanks so much for the kind words. THANKS for the suggestions for decoupage. I'm looking forward to trying other projects. I can kind of picture your 'safe candle'. I'd love to see a pic of it. It sounds really cool.

I wish I knew how to send a pic but I'm not on other social media platforms, only YT. Have fun crafting.

Great ideas! The snowflakes remind me of my grandma. She made a bunch of these which I proudly display on my tree.

Oh, that's so special that you still have something your grandma made. Hopefully my grandkids might treasure some of my things that much.

I haven't cross stitch in a long time. When I was young my grandmother tried to teach me how to knit and crochet but out of 10 children I am the only lefty 😂😂 she tried though. It was hard and I can't do it.
Beautiful job, they are all wonderful.
God bless and stay safe 🙏 ❤

I manage to do more cross stitching and crocheting in the winter. (when there isn't much gardening to do) My mom was a lefty and did have trouble teaching me too. I finally managed to figure it out. 😊 Have a wonderful Christmas!

I love all of these! I will definitely be saving to try next year. I took a fall on Thanksgiving that resulted in 12 stitches on my right hand, so sadly I'm pretty useless for Christmas crafts and baking this year.

Hey crafty friend! Vintage Christmas cards(or an image off the web like that) are nice in the canning rings too. I'm wondering if a dehydrator would be a little easier to do the cinnamon hearts in. I have some old apple butter to use up, might make those. FYI, your glue mixture will work for decoupage too. Your crocheted ones are gorgeous. It's so nice to see someone else getting back to the old crafts. Thanks for your video, It brightened my evening.

    • @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764

I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I will probably be experimenting with other options to use some more canning rings. I bet the dehydrator would work for the cinnamon hearts. If I have time I think I prefer just letting them air dry, but this time I was a little pressed for time. I'm so glad I tried decoupage....a whole new craft has opened up to me. 😃 I love crocheting and all three of my kids learned to crochet. (even the guys) I'm hoping that some of my grandkids might want to learn too. Thanks for watching!
