I watched this as a kid and it broke my heart, especially when kimi to no ashita started playing. Every once in a while i come back to listen to fate's eds including anata ga ita mori and hikari. This anime is treasured in my memories always.
There is a little bit more added to this ending though. The PS2 version of the game has an additional scene at the end where Atruria waits on Avalon for him, if he searches for her forever, and she waits for him forever they will be reunited. And in the end her arrives on the island and they are reunited. It's sappier and i don't know if it's /better/ but the series creator said they considered that to be the true ending to the Saber route of Fate/Stay.
This ending is far more emotional than all of the other endings of any Fate work. A close second would be the Apocrypha ending, since it is kind of a remix of this ending but with Sieg/Jeanne. The ending of the Fate route in the VN isn't as emotional as this one imo. The music that started to play on that scene in the VN is soooo out of place compared to the ones used in this anime, they also skipped the part of Bedivere hesitating twice when delivering Excalibur to the lake, which helps with the flow of the scene and makes it seem like Arturia is very close to dying.

En Fate Zero no te explican o no te das cuenta que, en la parte final murió kiritsugu por lo cual, no te parece doloroso o triste y cuando es lo que te quiere transmitir. Y en UBW solo el shero se va de viaje y te da a entender que no, se va a convertir en archer. Y este fate si te da un sentimiento de melancólia, de como 2 personas que se aman no se volverán, a ver en en el más allá por lo que queda como, el sueño o amor imposible obviamente si es más triste.
Como me encantan los endings que te dan esa sensación de llegar a un fin pero con ganas de querer una continuación, recuerdo que otros animes terminaron de forma similar a este fate

My favourite anime ending. I hope when Nasu decide to remake fate series and a new adaptation for fate route, they include avalon ending too. Probably not gonna happen anytime soon. probably on their 30th anniversary or something

In 2:26 saber could hear what Shirou was saying to Saber and in 4:07 its (Continuation of your dream) and it was only half of the ending and the final half in (Ending of the long Dream)in which after decades Saber and Shirou got to reunite in Avalon, End of the Dream= ruclips.net/video/aShk40wOGQc/видео.html But the anime was rushed and the script wasn't ready back then so they couldn't animate it so after 1/2 of the anime ending I cried for a month and after watching 2/2 of the ending I cried out of happiness for a week or more
Damn when i first watch fate/series this was the first one The hardcore fate fan said it's a bad adaptation and said you Should watch the UBW first I was watch fate when i was 13 now i'm 15, i thought Fate/stay night 2006 was end and just like that, i want more i want more Saber and shiro Until i found Fate UBW Ufotable they look the Same but different Heroine, but i don't like the UBW one, it just the Story somehow the only care about the fighting scene and don't give a little damn about the everyday life

well, it would make sense if King Arthur still would resemble as a man. however the truth is according to the author, she is not The King Arthur himself. As to who saber really was in history, it seems that Arthur has a female descendant named Arthuria who seems to had fail to inherit the position as a king. and the author just make a up a story for her to mach her grandfather, so to speak...
Always wondered why Bedivere was a girl here. But I just guessed they could make anyone any gender since they made Arthur a girl. But after Fate Grand Order, what's the explanation? Is it just retcon shenanigans?
From what I can remember from what I heard- DEEN thought Bedi was a girl based on his effeminate features and thus was given that voice, so in short, they got reverse trap'd- (FGO corrected that by giving him a proper male voice- i think his VA is Mamoru Miyano)
he knew. That's why he let her go back there to fulfill her oath as a king and accept all she could do. After she died, she went to Avalon and waited for Shirou there. When Shirou died as a hero (not Archer), he managed to find Saber in Avalon, but it took them an eternity to meet again. They eventually reunited in Avalon after all.
It goes without saying, but, she is dying, she is about to die and both Artoria and Bedivere know it, she was unconscious until thin scene started and told Bedivere she was having a "dream" (a.k.a. what happened to her during the 4tg and 5th grail wars) In order to give her a peace of mind, Bedivere tells her that if she wants to she can have the same Dream once again while she sleeps (ofc he doesn't know what she is talking about and he doesn't think you can have the same dream w times in a row). Once Bedivere returns Excalibur to the lake and reunites with Artoria one last time she tells him she is about to fall asleep again and this time it will be a long dream, in other words she is telling him she is gonna finally die cuz her duty as a king finally ended. She closes her eyes and never opens them again. She dies just as how her legend says.
I really really despised what Shirou said here because in my mind, all I can hear is him saying that he'll find someone else. Otherwise, lovely depressing ending.

The animation style is so 2005.... in the middle of transition into more modern style.... charming
If you look at Kara no Kyoukai 1 that one was way ahead of it's time, and it was made around the same year as deen stay night.

El mejor final de FSN... Y no me vengan con el zero y el UBW por los vi y no tienen un final que me llegase al alma como lo hizo FSN 2006.

It's not Grand Order what fixed it, in the 2007 version (Realtà Nua) the novel was dubbed and Bedivere received his canon male voice
