    My ISTP friend Leena @TieOnKevyt answered the questions too, they're really thoughtful responses, so I wanted to show everyone! Here are her answers below:
    What gets me energized and alive?
    - Deep meaningful conversations with a close friend.
    - Figuring out things in my head, related to subjects that are important to me.
    - Listening to my favorite music alone.
    - Playing my favorite instrument alone.
    - Exploring new places in remote locations (no crowds).
    - Doing adrenaline-inducing activities in which I am experienced (well-managed risk).
    - Feeling loved.
    --
    What depletes me?
    Like Dave said, meetings that are a complete waste of time: no set purpose or goal, or no decisions and action plans get made.
    Also, mingling with people I don’t know, because I have to use so much energy to try to manage my output: do small talk, exaggerate my emotional reactions and interest in subjects and people I couldn’t care less. Add there the overstimulation of senses (noise, a lot of things going on simultaneously), and trying to figure out group dynamics and keep up with its constant changes. It wears me out completely.
    --
    My ideal day:
    Go exploring and/or have an adventure (hiking in the wilderness, river rafting, doing a road trip) with someone I love spending time with.
    After the day’s activities lounge on a porch with them, eating and drinking, enjoying a warm breeze, and engaging in deep meaningful conversations with them.
    --
    How far do I think of the future?
    - Vaguely into next 1-2 years (what I’d want)
    - More specifically into 3-6 months (rough planning on how I will get there)
    - Precisely into 2-8 weeks (finished plans and approximate schedules)
    - Finished schedules for the next 1-7 days, but always leaving some wiggle room to adjust and make changes in case I get a better idea.
    My focus has moved significantly farther in the future as I’ve grown older. In my 20s my focus was in today.
    I don’t really plan as much for what I want to achieve as I plan for things I look forward to doing or experiencing.
    --
    Who real or fictional ISTPs do your relate to?
    I’m not sure if she could be typed as an ISTP, but I have related strongly to the character of Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul.
    Edward Abbey’s Desert Solitaire is the closest description of my inner experience as an ISTP I’ve ever read in the literature (except for his ethical and cultural contemplations which to me represent someone with very unhealthy Fe).
    --
    What do I bring to the world?
    What I’d like to think I bring to the world is a sense of calmness and clarity in complicated situations by providing facts, conclusions, solutions, and if needed, a shoulder to lean on.
    However, like the rest of the ISTPs in the panel, I don’t feel confident that what I bring to the world matter much to others. I often feel like it only matters to me - like I’m my biggest and only fan. I think it’s the weak Fe and Fi that make what others think about me (and my impact on others) invisible to me.

  • @Goodwin999

    As an ISTP, I never really thought what I brought to the world. Its more the other way around on how the world can best serve me lol. It actually took me a long time to realize other people try to find their purpose in this world and how they fit in it. This concept completely escaped me until I heard other types of people talking about it. The way I see the world is like an MMORPG where I level up different skills that interests me and collect items/resources that further my goals. The main focus has always been on self (growth, experience, etc). The idea of helping/serving a tribe or other people has always seemed undesirable lol.

    Istps always seem to have a card up their sleeve and when they pull it out they blow you away.
    Whether it's something they create, advice they give, or the way they make you feel. They are truly memorable and have such a presense.
    When an istp enters your life you will notice them immediately and it will be very hard to forget them if not impossible. They leave an impression on people and make an impact on the world at large. Truly a one of a kind type and personally one of my favorites!
    Thank you guys for sharing your wonderful and unique insights and perspectives! Personally I gain so much from the words of istps and I'm thankful for your time. Great interview, Joyce! 👍

    'Tactician' would be a great nickname for ISTPs, as opposed to an xNTx's 'Strategist' moniker, as their strength is in-the-moment strategy rather than long, thought-out plans. Ti-Se-Ni-Fe are built in-order for a tactical system that is the ISTP.

    The Troubleshooter, I think it fits us way more.
    For the question about What do we bring to the world: Nothing is the answer, not out of lack of Fi, it's really more of what we see important. so the answer is 'nothing of an importance', we only do what make us, and we won't call helping a friend in need or planting a tree at the end of the street or giving a brilliant idea for someone "Something"! because it's not! tell me otherwise and I'll call you stupid. if we are not doing a big noticeable change to this world, in whatever aspect it may be, then we won't say and won't believe that we presented something to it.

    Just to clarify, when Klaus was saying he thought about strangling a few babies, I took that to mean that in those moments he was literally listening to a baby screaming and he imagined strangling the baby to make him/her stop crying. I don't think he meant that other upsetting things make him want to strangle babies, just wanting to get the screaming baby noise to stop. It's a disturbing notion for sure. But I think he only said it because he was ACTUALLY hearing a baby screaming in that moment when he had the thought. I don't think he meant he felt like strangling babies when he was annoyed with a teacher or boss in a meeting for example. In that case he might want to strangle the teacher or the boss. :-)

    I think ISTPs are utilizers. With both objects and people. I can perceive people’s strengths and utilize or use them accordingly. It sounds cold but when I utilize them, it’s meant to bring them satisfaction as well. It’s like finding the right tool for a project. Perfection.

  • @hfortenberry
    @hfortenberry 4 года назад +5

    That is SO wild how they don't plan or see much beyond their current day. Wow, I can't imagine that. I LIVE in the future in almost every moment, even when I'm doing something in the current moment, in my mind, I'm in the future. Like if I'm doing dishes, for example I'm also thinking about what my dream kitchen would look like, there'd be a big window over the sink looking onto a big yard with flowers and a shady fruit tree with a mockingbird nest in it. And off to the side would be a vegetable garden with a white picket fence around it to keep out the chickens I would have running around the back yard. I could go on and on and on.... But yeah, I'd be actually just be doing the dishes.

    I don't know if it's an accurate name but the Maker was the first word that came to mind. In my opinion ISTP's are in general a lot more action orientated overall compared to INTP's.
    Mechanic/Engineer goes also in this area of creating something in the physical world that is build on a logical structure I think that's why it's used most often.

  • @hfortenberry
    @hfortenberry 4 года назад +8

    INTJ here. OMG that is SO TRUE at 37:30 about the boss calling you into his office and you are freaking out only to find out it's totally neutral or even a good thing. My boss, an ENTP really drives me nuts with this. Bastard probably knows it too. LOL He calls me into his office with a STERN voice (what the hell is up with that stern voice? I'm friggin' 20 years older than him - 52 vs 34 - give me a damn break and show some respect) like I'm in trouble, then when I get in there, he asks for my help with something he's troubleshooting and I am the one who has more knowledge (so it is actually a compliment). We work in IT and are system administrators. I hate when he does that although I've learned to tell myself it's probably nothing and soothe myself.
    For me it's probably due to inferior Se and trickster Fe and opposing Ne. I just never know what to trust when it comes to other people in the moment focusing on me. I'm like, "what? what did I do?" I think that's why I just prefer going unnoticed and work in the background. Now, that being said, I do not feel that way outside of work. Like in my personal life, I feel totally safe. But at work it can feel as if my whole livelihood is on the line every day so that's scary.

    😂 I’m pretty sure this interview showed quite a few faces/aspects of ISTPs including but not limited to awkward silences, musical shenanigans, and trying to turn the interview around on the person interviewing them.
    I was wondering if the “hammer falling,” on you when you get in trouble with authority has more to do with the order of functions. I’ll get pretty mad/upset if someone starts to inhabit my Fe and become the voice in my head judging me, even when they aren’t physically there. I find I can’t really use my Ti and Se to experiment and figure things out, because I get caught up in shame or guilt because of the mistakes I have to make to figure things out (these are more Fe/Te “this isn’t what the other person/authority wants,” or Ni implications/ negative consequences.) Where as if I let go of that I’m ok with making mistakes and I can really feed my Ti with them and get better and stop making those mistakes a lot quicker. So I wondered if it was so draining for everybody, because it’s asking you to use your functions in an unnatural order (Fe and maybe Ni first), or in an unhealthy way?

    22:00 I think Ti/Se likes problem solving where you go deep down through a bunch of layers in a problem until you reach this perfect Ti conclusion... problem solving is pretty tiring for me, but my Ne/Te LOOVES troubleshooting, because you just come up with a bunch of options to fix something...it’s a much shallower form of NT, but it’s good at quick fixes and brainstorming.

    I realize all my anime idols are ISTP. Yeah, Shikamaru being INTP always raised a question for me. For one he's observant (Se). But then he comes up with a lot of possible strategies (Ne) rather than just one but all of them, he can see far ahead of how they will play out (Ni). Maybe he has an extremely developed Ne? But I don't see his Si.

    This was super interesting. Regarding the discussion of Fi vs Ti, I’d disagree just a little bit on the analogy that was given. Rather than “Ti knows what is truth and Fi knows what is felt”, I’d say it’s actually not that objective with regard to truth:
    - Ti knows what is truth/correct (to me/self) and
    - Fi knows what is right/good/felt/desired (to me/self).
    I’m sure both types consider what is truth and what is right/good to be the objective, ultimate truth/rightness; but, it’s not. It’s still based on their individual framework and experience. I have to admit this to myself with regard to my Ni. I may think I always know things but honestly it typically needs to relate to something in my experience or I could be wrong. But then again, in those cases, where I don’t have the Se experience, I’m not likely to claim to know because I know that I don’t know.

    I'm an INTJ and I correct myself as I'm speaking as well. But I've got a decent usage of my Ti from many years of practicing science and computer IT so I've had to develop my Ti. Also, INTJs have Ti in their 6th spot so we naturally use it critically. I definitely do a lot. I find I am good with Ti but the difficulty for me is that I can't do it on the fly very well (except for things I've already figured out, such as being a grammar Nazi). I need to have some quiet time and be left alone with no interruptions so I can focus on Ti. Put pressure on me when I'm doing Ti and I get frustrated because it impacts my ability to use Ti.

    I originally typed myself as an ISTP for years. Now I type myself as an INTJ. I find it confusing when it comes to the deciders. I feel I use alot of Te and Ti, but I'm very confident that I am Ni-Se. I'm starting to wonder if it is possible I am an INFJ or ISTP jumper. I'm obsessed with possibilities and different perspectives and understanding things. As well as mastering everything. I almost always instantly know the best way of doing things, or how things will turn out.

    54:09 OMG I'm shocked ^^ It's a bit too extreme to say this (But I'm Ni dom so you know ^^) but I'm close to think about my futur all the way down to my death everyday ^^ At minimum it's from right now into 10 years in the futur ^^
    Not having this burden has to be so cool !! A good way to be in the moment for sure ^^
    What a nice goal for my life. Only focusing on today haha ^^ As simple as that.
    I love this quote from I don't remember who ^^ :
    "If you do everyday what you should be doing, you don't have to think about the futur".

    • @gazagne251190
      @gazagne251190 3 года назад +1

      @@Jay-el9iz Answering correctly this answer by writing it would be so freaking draining for me I'm sorry ^^
      ALL the point of planning is to try to predict the unpredictable.
      If you are really interested to get the nuances I will need your help with a call on discord or something where we can talk with voice and not words.
      Tell me if you want to go that far with me ? ^^
      Your question is too broad, like waaaaaaay too broad. The wall of text I would have to write to explain what the F I'm really doing to do that without knowing you and where you start on the understanding of your own question is really too big ^^ (I'm play last so it's hard to do that for me ^^)
      Short answer : You simulate 20 reality/path that go into 10 years in the futur EVERYDAY since you were born and by ajusting what you are capable of doing everyday and not and by trying to pick the best path for you and set little goal to force this path to became your reality you start to became really really good at making plan that don't care about the unpredictable since you have plan for this too.
      A shit ton of try and error and perfecting overtime.
      And you need to remove the "Chaos" of your life that doesn't align with the path you have choose.
      The simplier your life is, the more predictable it became, the easiest it is to control your path.
      Huge risk of doing that is sacrificing a lot of day to day opportunities for a bad path...
      So the logic is "If I have to sacrifice all of what my life could be to just one life what would it be ?" and force it to happen !!
      And if the price to force to happen is too big, just ajust.

    • @Jay-el9iz
      @Jay-el9iz 3 года назад +1

      @@gazagne251190 I am not denying that, but you can't deny that the unpredictable is by definition unpredictable. Did you predict the COVID-19 outbreak? Life is fundamentally unpredictable like the consequences of our actions. Control and safety are an illusion. Even if you simplify your life to the point where it's the most predictable possible, is it really a life at all? Plus, there's global human blind spots and specific blind spots pertaining to yourself that you can't overcome. Lastly, you will never have all the available and accurate data.

    • @gazagne251190
      @gazagne251190 3 года назад +1

      @@Jay-el9iz I agree but I don't see how what your are saying here relate to your previous question ? Or your previous question was at the end a rhetorical question to make me realize no one can predict anything may be ? ^^
      You can't predict everything ofc but you can still predict a lot. It has a cost for sure.
      And if you want to be able to predict for decades yeah it's well said, the cost is huge.
      But not trying to predict anything has a cost too.
      You are screw both way so it's a choice at the end. Even not choosing is a choice ^^

      @@gazagne251190 I dunno. You know, I'm an INFP so I do things that 'don't make sense.' I mean... I guess I do know, but it would take some efforts to elaborate on all the reasons I think of.
      I believe we all project our reality onto the world and it's very hard to distinguish between what was seen and what was infused, to paraphrase Jung's words on introverted intuition.
      A plausible conclusion is: balance. But it almost sounds too easy, right?

    I feel like that I could connect more with Klaus. I am an INFP. I read that we would have difficulty connecting with ISTPs. However, Klaus seems like he could be a kind person and he reflects before he speaks. I like to think before I speak and am reserved with people but I do believe in treating others well even though I don't really enjoy not having my personal space invaded or feeling beholden to the group at the expense of my own personal identity. Personally, I seem to be attracted to ISFPs because the ones that I have met also approach life from the standpoint of Fi and they are kind. people. Moreover, they remind me to stay in the moment and live a little, Se. I wonder what an INFP and ISTP combination would be like. How could they compliment each other?
