Ill never forget my time, if we graduated on time we would come home for CHRISTMAS and get exetended leave because MCT cycle was also on hold for the Holidays. Man did that motivate me to not fail, I even hid an injury, my arm had gone numb on me and was having a hard time doing push ups and couldnt even do pull ups. I remeber being afraid Id fail the last PFT. The night before I had failed to do any, the day of I was able to somehow manage three the bare minimum.
I have no shame in that because I honestly thought I wouldnt do any, I remeber people giving me shit and my Di being pissed but on the inside I was so happy because as bad as that was it meant I still passed. Sometimes when its do or die you can will yourself to overcome things

I get what you're saying about feeling discouraged or a failure.. You look at all the work , time and effort you've already put in.. And then for what ever the reason , you're Dropped.. To myself , it would feel like being held back a grade in School .. Your Bro's are getting ready to Graduate and your doing the whole year over.. But here's the thing:: As long as a person doesn't just quit trying or give up all together.. Because it's to hard or they're to lazy or to stupid , then it's Good to Go.. Just because a person has some kind of a set back , that's alright.. Because you're not giving up , you're addressing , focusing and fixing the problems.. And the Corp didn't kick you out , so they see that you have the potential to be a good Marine.. But you need just a little more work and help to get to Ship Shape Level.. So regardless of the set back situation , you fixed the issues and should've became a better and stronger Marine after doing everything.. And i would think that instead of feeling down about it , you should feel even prouder about Graduation and becoming a Marine.. It shows that you wanted it that bad and you work harder to earn the right to be called , United States Marine..🦅🇺🇸🦅.

I knew two people in there that were there for 50+ days. It’s very boring in there if you’re not a social person. If you are social it’s actually fun. We had a recruit in our platoon that reminded me of Dr Smith from the original lost in space show. He was older than most of us at around 23ish. He was a 'Know it all and always trying to tell us younger cats what to do! He wasn't a squad leader or a platoon leader but just some dude who thought he knew everything. No one cared much for him. We were in the middle of the first week of third phase when he rolled his ankle before we went to Edson range. Karma is a MOFO! Our platoon watched his platoon (1st BTN) march by us, and he had the look of shame when he saw us getting ready to graduate without him! He was about a month behind us!

It comes down to a variety of issues to get dropped. Not physically prepared, medical issues, doing drugs, disrespectful to any D.I., lastly a weak mind. One guy would pee in his skive shorts every time a D.I. would yell at him, we had one guy at the rifle range he would shoot at other targets , one tried to cut his wrist with a safety razor, caught two recruit's sleeping together, they ended up leaving the island, went AWOL and went to prison, one recruit that was a re-tread got caught stealing my clothes he got kicked out! I forget about the fat bodies some have been there for six months. They eventually kick them out! But it comes down to not being prepared mentally and physically! One last recruit went to chow hall, thru himself on the floor screaming I want my mommie! The first night we meet out platoon drill instructors , that night while doing fire watch there were about 10-12 recruit's laying in bed crying, most were saying, where is my mommie? People get dropped do many reasons IE fraudulent enlistment, medical issues that came up upon arrival to training, an officer tells the recruit that "we are dropping you from the program being detrimental to training, troop moral, a company officer wants a recruit to go to Balboa Park Navy hospital for an evaluation. Those evaluations result in those recruits being dropped from training. The government does not want to spend money on someone who would not get a return on their investment.

I was lucky in boot camp in 1961. I was a squad leader at the time. I got strep throat during qualifying at the rifle range. It was winter and I had strep throat. I managed to shoot sharpshooter despite having strep throat. After qualifying our senior drill instructor ran us up and down the hill at camp Matthews in San Diego. The actual rifle range was in an area below what is now UCSD and the San Diego VA in Torrey pines in San Diego. Anyway the day we qualified the senior drill instructor ran us in formation up and down the hill. Having a high fever and having a bad headache and body aches and chills I fell out. I was carried to sick bay because I could not run any more.i stayed in sick bay for two days and I missed the hump back to MCRD. But while I was at sick bay my senior drill instructor came to visit with some candy. That blew my mind. He gave me the candy bars and talked to me like I was a member of his family and told me I’d rejoin the platoon when I recovered. I was super glad I was not dropped to another platoon. Staff Sgt Curry, wherever you are I’ll have a beer and give you a toast.

Boot campus 13 weeks but if you break an arm, leg ect.. or like me I had the chickenpox and got set back a week cuz I was in the hospital quarantined. So my boot camp was 14 weeks.

1st Battalion Delta Co. 1997 Parris Island. Start doing some sort of PT before you go. There is something called the IST test that you have to do before you go to your actual platoon. You fail that IST test, you'll be in the "Pork Chop" platoon is what we called back then. The IST test is a base line PFT test, it's not the full test. You have to do like 3 pull-ups x amount of crunches within 2 min and run a mile and a half in under 12 min I believe. I can't remember exactly, it was a long time ago for me.
