I've owned several res guitars over the years. For blues playing, they are better for all bottleneck acoustic blues. Son House, Huddie Ledbetter etc. Personally I think they sound better with a steel slide. Cowboy chord strumming is good but very distinctive. I'd recommend having a gander online at how they work, the variations in the different mechanisms and possible problems. If you don't do that you can very easily end up with a wall hanger.

This particular guitar, I liked the direct electric sounds, but on acoustic only, it didn't sound as good as some other resonators I've heard.
Hard to beat for slide playing. 💪
While I don't have a need/desire for this guitar, I do own many Firefly guitars and they are really quite nice, regardless of price.

These Firefly guitars (among other affordable brands) mean folks can not just learn to play guitar (like I've started to do), but it's affordable to branch out and try new things. they're making music & playing accessible. Thanks for the great demos & reviews
But this should like a bad,cheap resonator and doesn't even sound proper plugged in. I have been looking for a while. About $500 will point you in the direction. Please don't waste your money.

...but he didn't even tell us if it has a biscuit cone or a spider cone. He obviously knows little about resonator games...and it sounds horrible.
Bought the double cut model resonator today. $189 plus $27 to ship. Hope it's great. I was looking at the Recording King Dirty 30's for $399. But found the Firefly has higher fret access and it's $200 cheaper...

The totally acoustic version of this demo makes me wish that I actually had an affinity for the Firefly Brand. It definitely seems to resemble some of the classic resonator guitar models of old.

Somehow, when it’s plugged into the DI, it sounds less like a resonator guitar than the Gibson J-160E models John Lennon and George Harrison played with the Beatles. (Think “I Feel Fine”, a rare instance of either plugging it in instead of using a mic.)
Another influence on the design of the dobro is the banjo which traditionally is also built with a cone-like resonator. A onetime acquaintance told me a sweet story. He was working as a banjo player in a bluegrass outfit, and he underwent a procedure that left metal rods temporarily attached to the fingers of his left hand. His band mates, knowing he couldn’t play the banjo but realizing he wanted to make the gig with little time to spare, kicked in some money together and got him his own dobro. That meant he could play using the metal rods country blues style.

I've never seen one of these guitars in a music store but I have seen many of these being sold online. This is the first time I've heard one of these guitars actually being played. Something from a different era altogether.

The natural sound is very resonator. This plugged in sound were like any other electric. I plugged in my Sennheisers to see if it was just my monitors, but what I heard would be confused as a LP / SG neck pickup sound.

It's a lot about technique. As a slide player, I've gotten to where I can play on anything, including guitars with low action...

Danzig,every time you say that I can't help but laugh, thanks for the gear updates ,I love firefly but I always end up giving them away to people who are just getting into playing, so now I guess I'll have to give this one a try,maybe I'll get to hang on to this one. Do you think maybe a Sherlock Holmes style hat and pipe would work?

But then you acknowledged that you got the shirt from AliExpress. THAT MADE SENSE. Don't come out with a quad engine p38 next week!😂 Never expected to see you with a resonator, but it's a Firefly so I get it. I think if i play it the led zepplin sound will be good. I knew a guy who. Once he retired from guitar , he used the resonstor to eat spaghetti out of. Sometimes he would eat two doses of spaghetti. One from resonator, one from cowboy hat. He even put the hat of his head😢

The problem for m3 is that I prefer biscuit cones and tri-cones to spider cones (which that one is)
Spider cones still sound cool, and lend themselves more to budget guitars than the others
Eastwood made a cool model like a 335/with a spider cone
May have to just save up some money

The problem Shredders have with playing blues and a slide is most of us don’t need to sing the blues. We live fantastic lives and have joy in our hearts.

Most Shredders can't play blues or classical or Jazz you're pretty much stuck

What is the point of a pickup. You get none of the different character of a resonator guitar?

Maybe it's just because he didn't play any delta blues or country blues on it, but this may be the first Firefly video I've seen that talked me out of buying the Firefly guitar demonstrated 😢. It might just be this guitarist's playing on a resonator, or the resonator really is terrible🤔 I wish I could have heard somebody play an open tuning, metal slide Robert Johnson or Son House song on this.
