Yep, it’s stuffing up my workload…. I can’t believe it’s had such an affect. I honestly thought publishers would resist using AI images as covers, they can’t copyright them… so any character design etc that gains popularity is open to be used by anyone. Even the cover design can be reused…. But I’m seeing all these books with no credits to cover artist, & they always credit artists. I didn’t think my career would end like this…

Serious question. Do you incorporate AI in any part of your Paintable Academy classes? I just subscribed to a monthly plan to test the waters. I am still doing the cactus, and I have enjoyed it so far. Then I saw your short video posted last year about AI being incorporated to the artist workflow, and to be honest, my enthusiasm got dampened. I just dropped another drawing curriculum I'd been following for a whole year because the teachers talked about AI and its usefulness in a take that was solely focused on artists that had already learned the craft, not newbies who are still trying to learn it. Unfortunately for me, I haven't been looking for courses geared at fine arts, but those that are more focused on visual or entertainment arts and illustration. That said, I have been searching for something that covered the same fundamentals, but with more content geared towards drawing from imagination (and I saw a lot of what I wanted to learn in Paintable's introduction). My goal is to learn everything I can from hand, and even though your course is focused on Digital Painting, the foundations are still pretty much the same. The last thing I am looking for is a course that teaches the fundamentals, but then inserts AI somewhere later on that might feel like encouraging the learner to ditch everything they've learn until that point and then to just let the AI do the bulk of the work. That is the last curve ball I'd ever want to be presented with as someone learning to draw and paint because my goal is to LEARN, from basics and beyond, the process, not to skip and offload them where I can.

Although AI is 100% gonna be part of the new way for artists to get faster and compete in the market, I have zero interest in learning how to use or teach it. I'm on the same page as you, I want to acquire more skills that could be translate to traditional medium. Digital painting being just the medium I prefer, I still like to teach foundation skills and techniques that could be used on both a tablet and a simple sheet of paper. You won't find any AI in the DPA. The only video I did about AI a year ago was purely for entertainment on RUclips. If you need more help or have questions about the DPA, you can reach me directly at hello@paintable.cc 😊

@@mia5738 David doesn’t teach AI, he may have done one video to discuss merging into workflow but that’s it. Paintable Academy is all about the fundamentals, the basic skills to create the 3D form. I started with Paintable going back must be 6 years nearly, at the very beginning of the Academy. I did the Illustration from Imagination course & it jump started my career as an illustrator. I can’t recommend David highly enough, his teaching style is clear, well rounded & very in depth. David is also very available to students, & will always reply to questions (you don’t generally get that with self study type classes). The other thing you get with Paintable Academy is a community of artists that are serious about their work & very willing to help each other. You will see your work improve really quickly if you put the time & practise into it.

@@Paintable Thank you very much for the confirmation! You're right, AI does have potential to help artists speed up processes, but it doesn't really teach us anything and that's really the dealbreaker for me. I wouldn't want to use it even if it were legal. I definitely don't want to use it while learning. Unlike digital that still comes from the same foundations as traditional art, AI just skips the entire thing.
DPA has really been enjoyable for me so far and I truly believe I'll be able to move forward with my learning here more than I have ever been able to before. When my one month subscription ends, I will switch to the annual subscription. I'm definitely looking forward to learning more from you!

@@LionArtStudio Thank you for this! David has given me a reply as well and both his and your words are very reassuring. I also believe I'll be able to learn a lot from DPA. I am already very eager to go home so I can open up the computer and start on the next lesson. Even so early on, I am already having lots of fun learning and trying out brushes and applying Davids lessons about the digital setup on the drawing apps that I've downloaded. I will be pushing forward with my education in DPA and continue to have fun.

@@mia5738 I knew David would respond, that’s another wonderful thing about Paintable…no matter how big they have become, David is still hands on & very accessible to all students. You will learn so much through Paintable, I guarantee it’s worth every cent. Have a wonderful time learning & enjoying seeing yourself improve more & more with each lesson.
