- Universal Orlando has a lot of great attractions, lands, and resorts. They also have one HUGE thing Disney doesn't right now - no, not Harry Potter...a DINING PLAN! That's right, Universal is still offering a Dining Plan to make your vacation easier, but is it worth it?! Molly is headed to Universal Studios to grab a dining plan and see if this is a good option for you when you visit. She'll be breaking down the plan, sharing best value snacks, and (SPOILER ALERT) drinking way too much soda - all in the name of research, of course.

@@livonimpulse Hey, Brits here planning our first trip for next September and we were told you weren't allowed to share the cup, I'm guessing it's pretty difficult to actually check though? If we could get away with it I definitely think it'll be worth the money.
@@mevans3875 We got away with it - we took the cup back on subsequent days & took it to Volcano Bay and no one ever mentioned that or told us off! We went to cash registers together every time, too. You can only refill it once every ten minutes I think, so you couldn’t down your drink then pass it to your partner to get it refilled, but you can sip and share together, if that makes sense.
It would be very easy to share since a lot of the counters give you a separate cup instead of just refilling the mug!
Watching Molly on a caffeine high from all the soda she has drank is the most entertaining thing I have watched this afternoon.

Back in 1977, my grandparents lived in Destin, FL. My brother and I visited every summer from Houston. I recall our grandparents taking us for a drive to see the "big shark", where Jaws 2 was being filmed - Navarre Beach. I was too young to think to take any pictures, but I sure do remember the 3 enormous sharks sitting on platforms! True story.
I miss the days where they used to give you a straw with your freestyle cup! Also when they had handles 😆
We just got back from our trip and had the full Universal Dining plan. A few of the things in the fine print that we missed were 1. Some of the more expensive entrees at the City Walk restaurants weren’t eligible as a dining plan choice and 2. It’s a prefixed or “chef’s choice” dessert that is included...you don’t get to choose your own dessert after dinner 😕 Still, we definitely got our money’s worth with our dining plan and saved quite a bit. We actually found it tough to use up all our snack/beverage credits!
Ah, Molly! If I did not feel our geeky sisterhood bond already, it was definitely solidified with the tears that you shed over the Jaws exhibit! Your excitement over the Harry Potter section was simply the whipped cream on the butterbeer! Also, thanks for your thorough examination in the merchandise stores when you walk through. It really helps me know what to order online in between actual park visits!
So, the non-refillable Quick Service dining plan in $25.99, and your meal plus snack were $28, plus you would have gotten one drink, call it $4, for a total of $32 worth of food and drink for $26. But, if you hadn't been on the dining plan, you said yourself you wouldn't have gotten such a large meal. (You would have gotten a Butterbeer either way so the snack stays the same.) So as long as you got an entree worth at least $14, you'd at least break even! :-)
Yes and no...if you have an AP, you actually may be getting a discount off the food. If you buy the dining plan with cup using an AMEX card, you get 10% off the dining plan. SO, depending on whether or not you have discounts could tip the sales in favor of buying with or without the DP. I have an AP that gives me 15% off food. Using that, and buying the food I want, I end up paying $4 extra if I get the butterbeer snack and am ahead if I don't (some days you really don't want it). The big difference is the time. If you use the DP you can't use mobile order...that can add 30-90 minutes to your wait time dependsing on how busy it is. THAT is worth the potential extra $4 IMHO.
I'm so excited about our upcoming Universal Studios trips. They are going to be incredible. I love your videos. They are awesome! Sounds like Universal Studios dining plan is WAY better than Disney's. Im starting to obsess on Universal more and more.

@@TheChubbyCinderella Yep, it's possible to get all of those. For Hi-C, I personally got pink lemonade. When I went there on the 12th, the front of the park freestyle machine in IoA had limited options, while the Lost Continent machine seemed to have everything. Lines for the icee stands are often long, but they're worth considering. 10 minute cool down between uses.
When you got emotional about JAWS. You moved to the top of my RUclipsrs. That was a family movie at my house. My kids were so upset when that ride was removed. You gonna need a bigger channel...

Love the old Jaws ride. I had ridden it in Anaheim and when I took my daughter to Orlando, told her that it was safest in the middle of the boat. The ride operator looked at me and I winked back. Of course, the middle of the boat is EXACTLY where Jaws jumps up. Loved it and scared my little girl. She never let's me forget it. Nice to see it's Molly's favourite.

The refillable cup alone is worth it. You can basically keep refilling your cup every 10 minutes so you never have a warm drink and definitely can stay hydrated! You don’t necessarily have to completely finish your drink either, if it’s been 10 min just refresh your beverage and keep on truckin! Universal definitely beats Disney at the drinking/hydration game hands down!
my stomach hurts just thinking of drinking that much soda. It'd be iced tea and sparkling water for me all day hahah
FYI It says you get one drink and one snack, but in reality unless they’ve changed it, you can actually get two snacks (and like you said butterbeer counts as a snack). Hubby and I would get one meal plan which is $25.99 (no freestyle cup because we don’t drink a lot of soda) between the two of us and use the meal credit to buy a rib or rib and chicken combo which is big enough to share and normally costs like $20 + $4 soda, so that’s already almost to the $26. Then we’d use the two snacks to get butterbeer ($8) or ice cream at Florean Fortescue’s ($7). We’d end up getting like $40 worth of food for the $26. If you like soda (or I think you can also do ICEEs) then the cup is definitely worth it too.
Love icee being included! The cup is definitely worth it for a family! But dining plan, I don't think so.

Hey so if u go on rides where can u put the bottle. I don’t think the lockers can fit it and my parents will want to go on some rides so they can’t hold it on all of em while waiting for me to finish. I’m sure some of not all rides u can’t brink the cups.
Sorry guys, BIG fans of AllEars but in today’s video it would have been helpful to see how purchasing that cup and the meal plan would really work on a full day of park use. Waiting in lines, can we drink in the line? Would it be worth refilling it if we can’t. What size of bag would we need if we bought the cup or if we had a family of 4, what kind of bag would we need to store all of the cups? And what if we didn’t finish the liquid before we got on the rides, what do we do? It’s not realistic to think tourists would just walk around, refilling. As for the meal plan, if we’re at the park for 8 hours or more, what would that all look like logistically. Again, sorry. We LOVE you guys. Thanks for all that you do.
I'm not part of All Ears, but you are correct. Realistically, most people don;t refill very often. There is time to wait in lines for the refill, the hassel of putting the cups in lockers for rides, and the fact that you spend time thinking of needing to refill rather than just enjoying the park. If you have multiple people using a drink cup, it can be worth it. Othrewise, you ca better off doing individual drinks. You won't have to put the cups in a locker and you can order just want you need/want.....which might be water when it gets really hot (and it does!).
This was exactly the video I was looking for thank you so much, great information. I don't think the unlimited soda would be useful for our party as we don't drink much but I read somewhere somewhere you can get a cup with $1 refils! Have you got a video on this option?
I'm surprised that Molly didn't have any sparkling water or even plain water in her mug as I am sure they would cost the same as a soda.
People who buy bottled "spring water" are lazy. I just plop an Aquamira filter in my water bottle and it gets rid of the nasty South Florida flavor "spring water". 😂

I find the price crazy, cause I went one time in like 2004 and I paid $35 for that quick service and cup. So almost 20 years later and the price didn't change.

The glass factory in our town does the glass for Universal. They have extras or off shots for sale at the factory store for like $1. I have a whole bunch of honeydukes one and some other hogwarts pieces.

What this video has taught me is that it’s difficult to get your money’s worth with the Universal dining plan but even at $16.99 the soda cup is totally worth it.

Can you not use your dining card as a form of payment in the Mobile Order app? It sounds like you cannot, but I think that would be an easy fix for Universal. I don't understand Universal punishing their dining plan buyers by forcing them to stand in line for quick service instead of being able to use the mobile order app. There must be some identifying data on the dining card that could be harnessed in the mobile order app.
One of the things I wish we could have done with the big cup is just fill it with water😅

Those Coke Freestyle syrups are so sweet. I always do about 25% flavor and 75% of normal soda. I get enough flavor but it's not overwhelming.

Molly why no ice? I would fill the cup with ice as you get a cold drink and you don’t have to drink so much. A cup with ice is the same price as one without. Anyway when you are at universal most people go from ride to ride so having a drink with ice also cuts down on time to drink without wasting drinks. I feel that ice is a key to getting the most value!

I just want to let you know that the hot butterbeer is served all year round now. I was told this by the bartender at Hogs Head last week when I was visiting IOF.

"If we don't have a soda, we're doing it wrong." Well, I slightly disagree. Powerade is not always cheap and prices vary wherever you go. Fuze ice tea is difficult to find. For example, nobody sells it in Texas and it has disappeared from most shelves so even those are just as pricey as soda.
