'Artificial embryos': the hidden steps in forming a spine

- Somitogenesis is the process by which segmented body structures like vertebrae form in embryos. While the process is well understood in animals like mice or zebrafish it is difficult to study in humans.
But now, researchers have created a model of somitogenesis, using pluripotent stem cells, called an axioloid.
The researchers hope that this new platform will allow them to better study human development and the diseases that can arise when it is disrupted.

It's interesting the number of people here in the comments who have completely missed the point: These aren't human embryos.
There are ethical questions when, and tight controls on, working with human embryos. These researchers here come up with a way of studying human development without using real embryos.

the question should be, will we tinker with embryos to treat developmental diseases - and then, to why stop short of creating superhumans down the line

Using cellular reprogramming. Yamanaka et al. have discovered that enabling just a handful of genes in human cells can turn them into pluripotent stem cells. So, human skin cells, for example, can be reprogrammed to be pluripotent.

@@FHBStudio Pluripotent stem cells are self-renewing while kept pluripotent. They automatically handle telomeres and other growth stoppers, such as tumour suppressor genes.

I believe, after the cybernetics and cellular enhancements phase, humans will challenge living in Space and try to Terra form Planets; for we will be the next Gen Alien Life. If ethically done, it's capable of miracles. If a person was able to bank their stem cells, theoretically one can grow a lung, for instance, to replace a damaged one. Children born with defective hearts will not need to wait for a compatible person for a transplant. The wait will be for the newly created body part to grow and will have the same DNA. You wouldn't need to worry about or take drugs for rejection.
Maybe soon they'll discover immortality and we can all mature properly by means of a 30 year meditation.

Sir, if you had actually watched the video to its entirety instead of spending half an hour looking for your bible verse, you would've noticed that man clearly pointing out how this is IN FACT not an embryo/fetus. The video shows human cells that have been changed into something similar but not the same thing. The clump of cells in the video has more closeness to blood or spit than to a real, fertilized embryo.
